Chapter 56 - 56-One week of freedom

A/N-Shoutout Tannermals and John_A_Mandrake for the powerstones!

Day 1-

After sleeping for a few hours in his apartment Carter washed his clothes and the robe that had been made for him. After he washed it he enchanted it to clean itself and to repair any damage, as well as slapping on anything else he could think of.

He did the same for the sword he was given by the dragon. Sharpness, unbreaking, auto-repair, the things that would make it last while also being formidable in a fight. Then he got the bright idea to NAME them, he named the sword 'Solstice', it sounded ok when he said it out loud but this sword would probably only draw blood a few times before being stored away somewhere safe.

As for the robes he could never think of a name as he put them back on and left the apartment. (A/N-HINT HINT NAMES ARE HARD!!)

For the rest of the day Carter just walked aimlessly, he had tucked his wings and tail away since he knew they were a dead give away for who he was since plenty of people had tried to get his autograph after the sports festival and he'd rather not deal with that. He didn't like how the police and pro's looked at him however, like he was a thug looking for an easy score. 'RIP OUT THEIR EYES!'

He snorted at that, but he didn't shut it up yet since it was something to distract his mind with. As the hours went by he started getting bored of doing nothing so he went into an alley as unfurled his wings before taking to the sky, flying away as people walking by felt the wind shift as he sped away.

As he flew over the countryside he decided to hit up Tokyo since it had been a while since he had been there. 'A good place to put a marker.' The voice commented as he realized he hadn't placed any in this world. Welp, I know what I'm gonna be doin! Taking out his phone he looked up important monuments in Japan, be it hero agencies, historical landmarks, or anything that would be decent enough to visit and place a marker at. Pretty soon he got a list of what he was going to hit up, first stop . . . All Might's towers and Endeavors agency in Tokyo!

As he entered Tokyo's airspace he sensed several heroes making their way towards him so he landed and hit the ground running, cutting through alleys and busy streets doubling back several times to throw them off. It took nearly an hour just due to the sheer number of heroes that were looking for him, but eventually he shook them off as he made his way over to his Frist target, Endeavors agency.

As he walked he would stop whenever he smelt good food, since he had a whole week (and WAY too much money) He stopped frequently as he ate food and looked at the bizarre things that Japan had to offer. Strange things were sold all over the place, the vending machines were also pretty cool as he got a few interesting flavors of snacks that Cathleen forced him to try back in the U.S.

Eventually he made it to Endeavors tower and using his flames flew straight to the top. Naturally this alarmed both heroes and civilians as they either called for backup or ran away not wanting to get caught up in whatever was about to happen.

As he made it to the top, Carter looked down at the few heroes who were able to fly and sent a few fire bolts at them to get them to back off before making a knife of ice and lowering the spell on his skin. shlik Blood flowed from his palm as the sigil slowly formed on the roof of the agency, shooting a few more bolts at the heroes he finished the first one and made a smaller more hidden one before he walked to the edge of the tower.

"You made a mistake coming here, villain!" A voice boomed as Endeavor himself flew up to meet him, Carter stared at him from within his hood impassively as he got an idea and grinned. My voice is now deeper, like Darkstalker's He thought as his voice echoed in the surrounding airspace.

"Na'zel vrhal zinthar sa-thal vrakth, thy'ren." Endeavor pauses, 'I've never heard that language?! WHO is this?' The rest of the heroes are just as lost as Carter grins inside his hood. Endeavor quickly shakes off his confusion as he lunges at Carter. "Foreigner or not, today you fall!" He yells but Carter calmly dodges, though he quickly adds a spell to keep his robes from burning since he'd rather not test if Astra could rip a hole into this world to yell at him for damaging it.

Other heroes lunge for him as well but he throws them aside like dolls as a few emitter quirks start flying at him from the roof top where more heroes have arrived. Seeing them all Carter feels anger as they keep pestering him, like flies attacking during lunch.

Endeavor lets loose a wave of flames that engulfs Carter but he does nothing as he emerges unscathed, feeling bored again he shoots forward as Endeavor crosses his arms. BAM! He still goes flying as he crashes into the mob of sidekicks, seeing this display of strength the ones still in the air wisely back off as Endeavor gets to his feet. "Backup is two minutes out." Burnin tells him as he grunts taking to the air again.

Carter heard all this though so he decided to leave, but not before throwing another string of words that give those hearing them a headache.

"Thar'kel sa'rith xal'ven, vrakth na'sel xar'thil, ixmorath vrakth sa'rhal na'zel xal'qen thal'ver." He snarls before forming a massive ball of flames and throws it at the roof, forcing Endeavor to help his sidekicks as Carter lets himself fall.

As he raced towards the ground he couldn't help but grin, now he had something to do for the rest of the week. He also made a mental note to train his quirk more since he was going to be using it when his dragon abilities were more problematic in situations like this. As he neared the ground he cast a spell that he thought of a few years ago on Rose's farm when it snowed the days he was going to visit Lunaria's grave. Move me to the outskirts of Tokyo, where no one can see or sense my arrival. Then he was gone, right before he hit the pavement.

A/N-Don't worry translations will be at the bottom :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He spent the rest of the day camping out as hundreds of heroes swarmed Tokyo looking for him. He would have been flattered but was too busy eating to worry about what they were up to. As he ate he grinned as he wondered how the Foundation would react once they heard what he said and saw the mark he had left on the tower. No doubt it had already been found as there had been dozens of heroes on the roof when he threw Endeavor at the, but unless they could remove the sigil there was nothing they could do about it. He knew that the Foundation could remove them however so that's why he placed another more discreet one in hopes they wouldn't find it until it was too late.

[Are you sure you want to do this? Your behavior is different from what you have previously displayed.] The system chimed, it had been with him for almost 30 years so it felt right to check and make sure that the host was ok since the system's survival depended on him. I'm fine, just more focused on my goal now since I have an actual way to get stronger and leave this place! He knew that it wasn't going to be the easiest but that's just how life had always been for him, he was just starting to treat life the way it had treated him, and it was going to be bloody!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DAY 2-

He was up bright and early the next day as he made his way towards All Might's tower. It would be a lot trickier since he was closer to the HPSC main office, as well as a bunch of other government agencies that were sure to be on high alert after what he pulled yesterday.

Knowing that they would be looking for someone matching his build and clothing, he decided to start experimenting with his magic, tweaking things appearance wise to fool any one watching. It probably wouldn't fool any software programs they have sweeping the city right now but it would be good enough to fool any heroes who were right in front of him.

After about five minutes he was happy with how he looked, much younger with shorter hair, he would blend right in as he made his way over, just another fan of the (former) Symbol of Peace!

This shit shouldn't be so easy, Atheia was harder to sneak through, and they let us through the front gate! It was comical how many heroes stopped their 'guard' patrols around the city to strike poses and pictures. He could see now why Stain hate them so much, they flaunted themselves everywhere, only stepping in to save others when they got a fat paycheck and more recognition from the public, he had seen maybe TWO real heroes who were stopping petty thefts and actually helping people instead of promoting their socials and merch lines.

It's sickening that they give these leeches their adoration. When things go wrong they suffer because the ones who hold all the power won't ever step in because they are too busy taking Instagram photos! He nearly snapped when he saw a male here taking selfies with women while an old lady struggled to cross the street behind him, not to mention the pick pocket who's already snatched his third wallet.

Carter really, and I mean REALLY wanted to burn him to ash to set an example, but he was so close to All Might's tower and he couldn't blow his cover now. Especially since the flashy heroes were starting to be replaced by real, government backed heroes the closer he got to All Might's tower. Gone were the overly enthusiastic celebrities in capes, these were people who knew what they were doing, and were ready for the worst to happen.

At first glance they were the same, taking pictures with fans and smiling like any other heroes, but they were all tense. None of them traveled alone and several patrols were spread out in a way that gave each team about 5 minutes to respond to anything that tried to get through. He had also seen a few glints from the top of rooftops to snipers were probably in play as well since this was getting closer to several important people in the country.

Once I was actually close to the tower I looked up at it and smiled, This shit's finna make the news.

As the last patrol walked by me I took a deep breath and jumped as high as I could. Turns out it's really fucking high since I was a quarter of the way up the building before gravity started to pull me back down, forcing me to use my quirk and fly the rest of the way.

The heroes didn't take kindly to this as from the moment I leapt upwards, dozens swarmed after me as more were called in. I could feel several snipers also trying to get a clean shot but since a crowd of people were still watching the heroes chase after me they couldn't fire just yet.

As I made it past the halfway point the first couple of heroes that could fly finally caught up to me, they didn't bother talking as they tried to attack me, or at least get me to slow down so those inside the building could catch up. Dodging a kick from the side I threw a wave of fire at them singing their costumes as they backed off letting the snipers take shots at me.

CRACK

Despite the evasive maneuvers a shot managed to hit my side. Slowing I glared at the sniper who landed the hit before making a spear of ice, hurling it at frightening speeds at the man who abandoned his rifle to leap out of the way as the roof he was on turned to frost and shattered concrete.

By now the heroes who were either climbing the side of the tower or taking the stairs inside had caught up to us as they started throwing themselves at me. They were at least basically trained as emitters and ranged quirks stayed behind the frontliners, taking shots when they could. Lucky for them I wasn't interested in them just yet as I focused on reaching the top of the tower.

With dozens of heroes and a couple of snipers taking shots at me, they managed to keep me an extra 5 minutes longer than it would have taken my to reach the top, I could have just blitzed through it all without a scratch, but I wanted to give them the illusion that I could still be hurt despite how strong I was.

Finally reaching the top I spun around and threw spears at the remaining snipers, forcing them to abandon their posts as the heroes surged over the edge and burst through the stairwell. "Give up, you're surrounded!" A particularly brave soul shouted I laughed, my voice rang out much smaller than my real one.

"You fake heroes can't stop me, the Crimson Avenger!" I mocked throwing them a name that had no ties to me as I unleashed a burning apocalypse on the roof. Heroes either ran or threw up barriers as the flames surged outwards. "Burn fake heroes!"

"We need heroes with water quirks!" They called for back up as the emitters among them fought back. Those with mutations wanted to charge forward but only a few were able to resist the flames pouring out from his body.

What they didn't notice however was the small circle of blood that was starting to form under Carter's feet as he swiftly sliced his palm over with a small blade. As the sigil slowly formed he noticed how a few helicopters had flown over to see what was happening. Two of them had news logos plastered on sides, with the last one catching his attention, it bore the symbol of the Foundation.

Seems they started digging into their records after what I said yesterday, I'm surprised they even have anything left over from that world. He didn't dwell on it for long though as a pair of heroes arrived that demanded his partial attention, Hawks and Endeavor.

"Why are they here, this doesn't concern them." Endeavor grumbled as he landed with Hawks hovering above, "Oh but it DOES concern them!" I yelled as they charged, Endeavor was easy to deal with since he couldn't withstand as much fire as I could, Hawks didn't fare any better as any feathers he sent my way burst into flames within 15 meters of me, so he tried turning them into a sword only for the same thing to happen.

"Leave him to me, you focus on evacuating the injured." Endeavor shouted as he was forced back, despite his impressive physique, he still felt his bones rattle when hits landed. He would hold out as long as he needed to keep people safe, that was what heroes do.

"Run along bird, wouldn't want you to get burned now would we?" Carter mocked as Hawks sent out a flurry of feathers, pulling people away from the escalating fight as Endeavor unleashed flames with reckless abandon. "FLASHFIRE FIST!" He roared as Carter scoffed and caught his fist, stopping it dead.

"What is it with heroes declaring their moves? It helps prepare them and tells them LITERALLY what you're about to do." Carter grumbled as he did the exact same thing Endeavor did, just without announcing it.

As Endeavor picked himself back up from the melting roof, Carter grinned p at the foundation helicopter as he could feel the people within it glaring at him. He flipped them off before checking on the sigil, seeing it was done he let his wound clot as the healing process started, leaving not even a scar behind.

"Well it was fun, it really was. But I've done what I needed to do." He says as he walks over to Endeavor, dodging a wild swing before punching him in the chest, forcing him to the edge of the roof. It was cracked in several places with flames eagerly licking at everything they could touch. Hawks was back as he had already taken away the heroes who would only get in the way as several people with water based quirks arrived and started putting out fires.

"Who said you could leave?" Hawks asked as two swords formed in his hands, "You already know that won't work, you're just getting in the way now." Carter scoffed as Endeavor finally rose again, fury pouring from him as his costume started to melt under the heat, "You won't be going anywhere but Tartarus, villain!" He roared as Carter held a hand over his mouth in mock shock. "Oh what shall I do? Weep and cry, proclaiming my love for this corrupt world that feeds on the weak? Shall I write poems about how I've had a change of heart and wish to dedicate myself to helping the people, while fighting for the very governments that keep them in chains? No I don't think so."

Hawks flinched as some of those words struck close to home, but he still stood ready to fight. Endeavor rushed once again but Carter growing bored slammed his fist into the side of his head, knocking him out as he grinned at Hawks. "Your masters won't let you run around playing hero forever, but I think you already know that." He sneered as Hawks glared at him.

Turning to look at the Foundation helicopter that was slowly getting into weapons range Carter grinned, "Well, time to go!" He said before launching himself at the craft. Proximity alarms went off inside as he closed the distance. Rockets and bullets raced towards him as the helicopter tried to disengage but they did nothing to slow him down as he slammed into the side of it.

He didn't bother with words as he burnt everyone inside to ash as the helicopter started to fall, no longer having a living pilot to keep it in the air. "I'll be taking this, for all my hard work." Carter said as he clambered up the side and stuck his hands in the rotors, stopping them with a loud CLANG! He flexed his fingers as even though they hadn't broken the skin, it still didn't feel good. Then he reached up further and grabbed an undamaged rotor by the blade grip before ripping it out of the mast.

"I'm gonna have fun with you." He grinned at the rotor blade before teleporting away, new toy in hand as the helicopter finally hit the ground, exploding in a blazing ball of death.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DAY 3-5

The next three days were more of the same, looking up a historical sight or anything slightly important in Japan, then he'd go and place a marker there, as well as fight off any heroes or Foundation personally sent after him.

He usually spared the heroes unless they STANK of sin, then he would dig into them and release what he found to the press. The Foundation agents were never spared however, unlike heroes who were bound by moral and ethics, the Foundation agents and MTF squads couldn't be reasoned with, and opened fire the second they could so he didn't have any problem killing them as they arrived.

He had also been perfecting new applications of magic, specifically his disguises and his teleporting.

He was now able to change his appearance without having to look in a mirror to make sure it looked right. Now as long as he could remember a face down to the minute details it would slowly replace his own. So he had been focusing on changing his face and body as many times as possible as fast as possible.

The teleporting was trickier however. Since he wasn't actually teleporting and just appearing in places, he had to know EXACTLY where he wanted to go, any deviation would put him in a wall or in the middle of traffic. He'd already had to break through three walls and had two cars and a semi-truck slam into him as he now forced himself to remember where he wanted to go. It was easier said than done however as the only three places he had been able to teleport to consistently were his old apartment, his room at UA and his room back in Cathleen's apartment in the U.S.

He had left a note for her the second time he went there after running from the Shrine of Inari, but she found him there and so they had a long talk about not using a middle man when contacting family.

He had managed to calm her down with the jar of honey he brought her from the valley though. She was a bit startled to see he was her age now when he told her how old he was, and showed her his true appearance. She didn't seem too angry however though she did make him spend the night instead of sleeping somewhere else. She even made him bacon and eggs in the morning before he went to place a marker in the crater left behind by AFO and All Might's fight.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DAY 6-

After a full week of running around the country placing markers made of blood Carter was a little bit tired. So he took a break doing the most relaxing thing he could think of, which unfortunately happened to be attacking every villain and criminal he came across.

Now normally he would just be labeled as a vigilante and hunted by the HPSC, the problem is that he wasn't doing this in his human form, no he decided to turn into an ICEWING!! So now the country was in an uproar because an ACTUAL dragon was flying around the country and attacking people.

Now it was mostly attacking criminals but the HPSC wouldn't tell the people that because they wanted to grab it and experiment on it since it displayed high levels of intelligence, having already warned several patrols to leave it alone before turning all the rest to ice sculptures.

As he turned the last villains that were still trying to fight to freezing blocks of ice, Carter looked around at his latest work. He had been wandering in the Chubu region since it was where Musutafu was, making it easier to get back to UA in time for the school festival.

With a crash the rest of the hideout collapsed in a heap of ice and frozen concrete as heroes started to arrive. He watched impassively as they set up a perimeter around him to try and surround him, it hadn't worked the last time they tried. He let them scurry about though as he noticed a face he hadn't seen in a few days, Hawks was here.

"Ah, the caged bird has arrived." He rumbled as Hawks walked towards him unafraid, though still tense. "Have you come to make your petty demands? Have your masters sent you to die for them?" He mocked as Hawks sighed, then sat down on a collapsed beam that wasn't completely ice, "My name is Hawks." He said as Carter snorted.

"You carry the name, but you are no hunter. You should change your name to sparrow." Hawks looked mildly offended at that but didn't press it, "You got a name?" He asked instead as Carter laughed, shaking the ground around him.

"You are either suicidal, or incredibly brave, little human!" He said as shook frost off his talon, each one as big as Hawks. "My name is Avalanche, be grateful that I have spoken to you, little human." He said with mock gravitas as Hawks nodded, "So why are you going around turning bad guys to sculptures, you don't act like a hero or vigilante?"

Carter snorted, frost spilling into the air as Hawks shivered from the cold that seemed to emanate from the dragon's body. "I was bored, and found something entertaining to do. I care little for heroes and their little costume parties. Better to freeze the problem and be done with it." He said as Hawks shook his head, "The president of the Safety Commission wants to talk." "NO!" He cut him off, "Don't even bother asking why, you know what they'll do the second I show up. If I wanted to be experimented on I'd go the UA, I'd at least be given my own room and some freedom, rather than chains and hypocrisy."

Hawks sighed as he stood up from the beam and dusted the frost off himself, "I told them, but they wouldn't listen. Now I'm supposed to force you to come with me, but I don't think I CAN." He said looking up at the dragon several times his size, 'He's even bigger than Ryukyu's dragon form.' He thought as Carter grinned with all his teeth. "Even if All Might himself found the strength, I would kill him. You wouldn't stand a chance."

Hawks sighed again as Carter looked around at all the heroes and MTF agents who were watching and listening, he mentally went over how much time he had left and decided that he was done playing and it was time to get ready for tomorrow. "Farwell sparrow, pray we never meet on the battlefield." He said before he took to the sky, dozens of steel nets and various quirks shot after him but the few that hit didn't even leave a mark on his scales as he disappeared a few hundred feet above them.

—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DAY 7-

For the last day of his break, Carter spent most of the day sleeping. He just slept all day in his apartment outside UA as he listened to his music, eating food and playing games when he was able to. Though at lunch time he did roll out of bed to make a decent lunch as he finished changing his face to look the way it had on the day he left.

Any tips on what else I can do? Still got a half day before I gotta go back. 'KILL MORE HUMANS! BATHE THE WORLD IN BLOOD!' Ok not helpful but we'll keep that in mind, what about you? [I would recommend reading and watching various fictional universes, they might give you an edge in the worlds to come.] Explain. [The various realities that exist sometimes bleed through into other worlds, in dreams, spiritual experiences, or other random events. This is what gives way to fictional universes, hero movies, comics, video games and so many other things. If you look into the more popular ones, you might find information that can be useful should you find yourself in these places.]

So I should spend my day watching movies and playing games? [Yes, but also remembering the various things that happen, be it plot points, characters whose power can be taken, or other things that would give you an advantage over the natural inhabitants.] Alright, I'll give it a shot. Any suggestions? [Plenty, I would recommend starting with Warhammer 40k, Doom, Halo, Star Wars, Marvel and DC. These 7 universes influence dozens more, but they also infect others as well. The universes of 40k, Doom and Halo are quite infamous for having their existential threats leave their boundaries and wreak havoc across the creation. Star wars, Marvel and DC also have their dangers but they usually stay inside, with their own systems in place to keep the balance.] Ok that's a lot, but I'll see what I can do . . .

Several hours later Carter stood up from his computer and stretched. Even for me that shit is scary. He thought as he remembered some of the things he'd read about. He had started with the most dangerous of the bunch, Warhammer 40k, a galaxy stuck in war, stagnation and chaos. He read mostly about the big factions and things that could kill him without him knowing. The thing that freaked him out though wasn't what he read about, but WHO.

When he was reading, he came across the Emperor of Mankind, Khorn, Nurgle, Tzeentch and Slaneesh. He could FEEL them, watching him, the Chaos gods only glanced at him briefly, but it was the Emperor who gazed at him the longest, he could feel the heat of his gaze, the sheer WEIGHT of his presence, despite being separated by impossible distance. That coupled with the horrors of the galaxy made him cross 40k off of places to visit.

Doom and Halo were a bit more tame, but he could see why they were infamous. The demons seemed to follow the Doom Slayer, draw to him wherever he was, even following him out of hell, though he did kill the dark lord in the end. Halo was cooler though.

He liked the idea of massive technological constructs, massive rings that wiped the galaxy clean of all life, only to reseed it all a few centuries later. The Flood gave him chills though, he didn't really understand why the Forurunners went so far as to make the rings however so he asked the system. Why kill everything, it seems like a waste? [Everytime they don't use the rings, they lose. The galaxy gets eaten, then the Flood spreads to more and more galaxies, an unending tide of hungry flesh that thinks, and wants, and knows how to break even the strongest of wills]

Other than those, the only real problem he had was the fact that he had read everything he could on all the wiki's he could find, 40k and Star wars took the longest however as their fandoms got REALLY specific with small details, like height, and time. So it was a lot to take in in such a short amount of time. He also bought several games to play through them, but was tired and just wanted to fly around for a bit before having to go back to UA in the morning.

[Me and your mama:Childish Gambino] A/N This is the song I had in mind writing this.

That's how he found himself at the top of the tallest skyscraper in Musutafu, listening to music as the city lights shined below him. The next song started to play as he felt his mind relax for the first time in years, he stared blankly at the lights that danced to and fro. He watched people walk the streets with their friends and family, going off and having fun. He thought about his friends, how they were doing, and what they might do in the future.

He thought about his family, and how none of them were here to torment him any longer. How he wouldn't have to deal with them, never listened to their mocking voices, their judgemental gazes, and false smiles. He thought about the planet that turned its back on him, when he had nothing left.

A world that had sent everything to kill what it perceived as a threat. All dead, and shattered now and for the next few decades as they recovered. A world forever changed by rage, sorrow and hate.

He thought about his mother, and how she'd always pushed him forward, how she always loved him despite the rot that they lived around.

He thought about the friends who sacrificed their lives for him, giving up everything to give him a chance to survive, and how he'd thrown it all away.

And he remembered the feeling of holding her failing body, as she smiled up at him, never blaming him despite her injuries, despite all the pain and suffering he had caused to the world for her sake. She had told him to move on, to live, and be happy.

Yet here he was, killed then thrown into a new world because he couldn't let go of his hate, he never would. Not until one of them was dead, broken and bloody, with barely anything left to bury.

He stood up as his wings opened, spread wide to catch the chilling wind as he gazed down impassively at the world he would give to make everything right, no matter the cost.
