We cleaned up, got dressed, and I drove her back home. By the time we arrived, night had fallen completely. Warm lights glowed from the windows, and the delicious aroma of home-cooked dinner filled the air.
As soon as Yuko and I stepped inside together, Kasumi (Oka-san) turned around from the kitchen counter. Her sharp, motherly eyes immediately noticed us arriving side by side.
She also caught the bright, satisfied glow on Yuko's face — the flushed cheeks, A knowing, gentle smile spread across Kasumi's beautiful, mature face.
"You guys are back at just the right time," Kasumi said warmly, wiping her hands on her apron. "Dinner is almost ready. Come on in and wash up quickly. Let's all eat together tonight like a proper family."
I nodded politely with a smile. "Thank you, Oka-san. It smells really amazing. I'm starving."
Yuko stayed close to me for a moment, her body still radiating heat from earlier, before we moved toward the dining area.
