Before Phoenix could reply to Flora's question, Quarto pulled the girl to his back and questioned in surprise, "You know we're coming?"
Phoenix nodded and explained, "Since I have yet to return, I know you'll come for me. Coincidentally, Septimo's father knew where I was going, so it would not be difficult for you to track me down."
He was worried that Arnold would find out about the children if they barged into Hallow Medical School impulsively. Thus, he purposely caused a ruckus whenever the staff brought in his food. He wanted to induce a discussion among the staff, who were displeased with his outrageous behavior.
With that, the children who came to search for him would overhear the conversation and try to sneak into the school to meet him.
