"It won't," Christopher answered confidently. "I'm his father; how could I let him get hurt? Vervain is dangerous for people like us, but since Jordyn is his mother, he has the blood of a normal human being. So the plant isn't going to cause him any harm. It'll only put him into a deep sleep."
"Then, will he wake up on his own?"
"No. He won't have the power to do that under the effects of vervain, but I'll wake him up within three days after the matter has been taken care of. By then, the dust will have settled, and there'll be no turning back for him."
Twyla sighed with relief.
Finally, Twyla asked of the man, "Mr. Cole, when God wakes up, could you please keep everything I've done a secret from him?"
Christopher didn't agree to her request.
"You know how intelligent my son is; do you think he wouldn't be able to guess what happened?"
Twyla instantly fell silent.
