Phoenix was speechless.
He was not a fool. He knew that it was fake.
Yet, seeing how hard Charlotte was trying to convince him, he held in the urge to expose her.
He said, "If you're really not sad anymore, smile for me."
The corner of her lips were lifted up forcefully into a smile.
Phoenix responded, "Forget about it. It's better if you don't smile."
That smile was uglier than her crying face.
Charlotte was heartbroken. "Phoenix, do you find me annoying now? You can't do that. I'm your mom. You can have disdain for anyone but me."
"No, I don't find you annoying."
Charlotte replied, "Hug me if you don't. Only then will I believe you."
Phoenix's small face tensed up at her words.
Charlotte immediately looked upset. "So you do."
Hearing that, Phoenix stretched out his small arms and touched hers lightly. He considered that a hug.
Although it was merely a light touch, it was enough to warm Charlotte's heart as it was one from her son.
