Chapter 296 - Chapter 296

Six months later...

"Actor, the mightiest archer called forth by the storms, where lightning strikes his thunder follows. As once within the desolate lands of The Frozen Forest, it was his bow and arrow that brought down the most ancient of serpents..."

His humorous voice trailed off, the glowing gems within his mask pulsed with life.

"Envy, the rogue who wields both stealth and deadly prowess, as his trident had taken down one of the strongest generals of House Night's King Rider..."

Holding two hands up into the air, impressed with even his own stories.

The receptionist; however, only scowled deeper, trying to peak over the shoulders of the armored captain seated before her.

"Icicle, the second strongest of my party's frontlines, and the wielder of the Everfrost name. However, don't let his obnoxious nature fool you, as he could strike down the strongest of ten star soldiers..."

Shaking her head, the receptionist could only frown with exhaustion.

"The Lion, and gladiator of the party. He once brought down an entire Bullglin with his bare hands... Or maybe it is Kore, the wind mage who can carry the momentum of an entire army with a single spell?"

He continued on, letting the lips of his ebony mask curl upwards as he spoke.

"Or is it a vanguard such as Reinhart, who is the banished heir of a once great house, now in search of his own legacy as he strikes down foes with a colossal great sword... Possibly it is the enchantment of our other ranger, known by many as the vengeful Bandit..."

"I-"

"Don't worry though, as Gemini of The House of Ironclad handles all of our forging and upgrades. One of the finest blacksmiths in the ten kingdoms!"

"It's not-"

"Or is it raw valor you seek? Because our Evangel does most of the heavy damage anyway. Her mighty great sword threatening the raw strength of even Reinhart..."

"Don't get me wro-"

He interrupted her once more, purposefully saving the name of the captain for last in the introductions...

"Then there is Ony- Wait... Never mind that's all of the party members..."

His voice trailed off as the glowing eyes at the forefront of his skull dimmed a little.

"Sir... I only needed the captains name for the official guild registrations..."

'Cursed business folk..."

He could even hear the snickering of his seer Ivy somewhere in the far East of the continent.

"I- Am... Uh..."

His eyes darted across the room, searching for some sort of alias he could give himself, for very major reasons...

Then his eyes met a small painting on the back wall of the tiny office room. The actual painting itself wasn't very impressive, and was probably just a boon brought back from a journey; however, what lie below it made his mask light up.

"My name? I go by many, The Nameless King, The King of Chaos, but I suppose you can just call me Elite..."

Her frown only deepened, as she slowly turned around.

"Ah... Sure..."

Then she began to sign off the necessary paperwork, for his party's entrance into the guild.

...

Slamming the door behind him with a haughty laugh, he skipped between adventurers as he swung the scroll around in the air.

On the other side of the vast Porcupine Tavern, a group of well armored adventurers laughed among themselves as they feasted on the first meal they had eaten in days.

Once he made his way over, he slammed the scroll on the table before his allies.

"Were in..."

The archer known as Actor threw his arms up in exhaustion.

"Ugh! About damn time dude."

Envy squeezed the archer's shoulder with his gloved hand.

"Relax... It only took six different taverns throughout The Biomes of Greed..."

Gabriel who had been given the name of Envy scowled at Elite who's true name had been lost within the history books.

Equan, who's name had finally become Actor, rolled his eyes in annoyance as he bit into another chicken leg.

"I'm glad... We can finally get too work..."

Kaylynn of House Kore smiled softly as she set down her mug.

Leo had fallen asleep on the farthest chair, near a large window that showed the great expanse of the valley that the town of Merida had been built within.

Elite sat down in the only empty chair aside Michael who had been given a last minute alias as well, mainly because they had asked for their own since the captain and Bandit bore their own false names.

They weren't the ones that mattered though, as Chase slain Rider in the fall of Equus six months ago, and had been presumed dead after the explosion.

This had actually not been Chase's idea, but the three women who he deemed closest to him.

Ivy, Poppy, and Luna had all made an agreement at the center of the gigantic crater where a great city had once stood.

That in order to hide the Paladin killer, Chase of House Phoenix would die in those ruins...

Of course Chase wasn't actually dead, in fact he was actively ordering a mug of ale for himself, as he scratched at the surface of his mask that had grown quite itchy over the few months.

Actually, it had been quite worse than that, as it had completely joined together with what little skin left that remained on his face.

Even though Ivy's healing capabilities were vastly impressive for a Seer, Chase's wounds had left him with terrible scars that would no doubt remain for the rest of his life.

Because of his lack of reflection, he had no way to see the damage done to his face for himself, but from Poppy's reaction quite the number had been done on it.

When he had reached up to feel it...

On a brighter note, Chase pulled apart the lips of his mask with his accumulated energy manipulation arts, and poured his ale into the ghostly void that sat where a normal mouth should have been.

"That's still creepy, dude..."

Luke scrunched his face in disgust, setting down his own food and avoiding eye contact with the newly upgraded Naga mask.

No matter how much he had assumed of his own safety, it was clear...

Star of House Aries would still be after his life, and Zen would no doubt come searching in the near future...

After all, he had killed a Paladin. Be it through outsmarting or raw combat, The Grand Paladin would never trust the words of his daughter who had taken a liking towards the heir who would one day appose him.

Looking down at the several chains he binded to his own wrists, and the bracelets made of ghostly steel that surrounded said chains... His gaze went distant...
