Chapter 294 - Chapter 294

It wasn't over...

Chase stood up, feeling his body fall apart.

What was left of his skin was charred black, shriveling up and breaking apart as all of his blood had simply been incinerated.

The hole in his chest was covered in ash, barely holding apart his organs and demolished bones.

He had lost all feeling in his body.

Yet he stood with a terribly grim smile.

If you could even call it that...

His mouth was falling off of his face, and his eyes were melting from his sockets.

His hair was the only thing which had remained, golden and divine at the crown of his broken body.

A terrible gash ran from the top of the left of his collarbone, digging straight into the lower part of his shoulder, leaving his arm hanging by a literal thread of flesh...

With his right hand, he picked up what was left of the shattered sword below his body.

The ceiling continued to break apart, crashing into the ground around him as that too... Broke apart, falling into whatever void awaited it all below.

Rider stood in horror, clutching his broken body as he turned his gaze towards the man who had done this to the kingdom he had once called his home.

Chase chuckled a terrible gargle of death, tightly gripping the blade in his right hand which was more so a collection of finger bones attached to a mangled palm.

Rider lazily lifted his somewhat intact halberd.

The two of them seemed to come to an equal agreement, not letting it end until it was truly over.

Chase dashed forward out of sheer willpower, as Rider did the same.

Meeting with a deadly echo of their weapons colliding, Chase let Rider overpower him.

The edge of the halberd sank into the charred skin of Chase's abdomen, as he used his shattered blade to dig deep into Rider's cheek.

Sending a kick into his chest, Rider launched Chase back into one of the large falling pieces of the ceiling.

His back shriveled up under the force, as he felt the halberd dig even deeper into his flesh.

Rider screamed, ripping the jagged sword blade out of his mouth.

Then the floor trembled, collapsing in on itself as the two of them fell into the deep abyss below.

The sun had begun to rise in the distance, meaning Luna's blessing would soon wear off, leaving Chase with only his own power to keep himself alive.

He ripped the halberd out of his stomach as he free-fell aside countless large boulders of stone.

Looking down at the halberd within his hand, sapped of its terrible energy- He felt disgust fill his being as the same weapon that had ended Leander was now in his bony right hand.

He gripped the halberd, turning his body and swinging it widely with all of the courage that he could.

Its blade barely dug into the boulder that descended beside him as they landed at the bottom of the abyss with a terrible crash.

Chase recoiled, flinging off of the shattered boulder and into the ashen ground.

He staggered forwards, dragging the halberd across the ground as he went.

Attempting to lick his shriveled lips, he felt naught but the numbness of his tongue.

Ahead of his him, Rider was trying to pick himself up.

His body trembled, and gave out on itself.

Above him Chase was limping forward, looking down with pity at the man who had taken so much from him.

"Underneath?"

Rider gazed up in horror as quickly as his ruined neck could turn.

His eyes began to dim as Chase lifted the large halberd with a single hand.

Swinging down with all of his might, he ripped the head from Rider's shoulders.

Letting the head of the king of corruption roll further down the crater, Chase breathed heavily as his knees buckled.

"Your own kingdom..."

He said dryly with his mouth never closing.

His eyes darted around the crater that had once been a beautiful kingdom where countless people had lived...

His eyes focused on the sunset as he refused to lose his balance.

His knees cracked as his upper body sunk lower and lower.

Watching the faces of the people he loved flash before his eyes, he wondered if things could have ended differently...

It was very quiet, and almost peaceful.

The flames had diminished, leaving only the somber flowing of water at the bottom of the crater...

Where fifty meters up and into the side of the crater, a hole acted as a waterfall, where inside must have been what was left of the sewers.

He almost thought that he had seen figures looking out from it, but shook his head slowly as the rest of the castle crashed into the ground around him.

Clouds of dust robbed him of his vision, letting the terrible dread finally consume his mind and body...

"Wait!"
