Chase had already forgotten, as he opened his eyes on the balcony of The Oasis once more.
But it was strange, he knew he had been here, he knew he shouldn't be here.
He looked to his left, only to see that Cloudy was smiling at him.
"How many times?"
Chase asked, lowering his head as the world around him bursted into flames.
"Too many to count, so many that I did not think you would be back here..."
Cloudy answered honestly, looking blissfully into Chase's eyes.
"I want peace..."
Chase answered.
"I am selfish, I want my friends to get to live in peace, to never have to worry anymore, I want the people of this world to live in a way where no god can determine the outcome of a life, where war is only a myth told by parents to scare their children into doing chores..."
He spoke quietly, but for the first time in what felt like centuries... Honesty...
Cloudy's lips curled even more upward.
"You cannot have that..."
He replied.
Chase only nodded.
"I know."
Then...
Before the law of this world could trap him into death again, Chase stood up.
"I cannot live in peace... I must live in..."
"Chaos..."
Cloudy finished his words with ease.
"Do you know what chaos means? Or should I continue the cycle for you?"
Chase nodded.
"One more time."
Cloudy nodded again.
"So be it."
Then a spear of light shot straight through Chase's chest as he accepted death once more.
...
When he awoke, he standing in a strange place.
It was hot, so hot that Chase's skin began to blister with pain.
Next to him, a woman with black hair and emerald eyes smiled darkly.
"Tell me what you see."
Chase stood up quickly, as he realized he was lying on the ground as the extremely hot air of the underworld continued to melt his skin away.
As he stood, he noticed a ball of life at the center of an indescribably large room.
It was flaring with heat and vibrant colors of both crimson and fire, it looked as if it was a heart, as it beat with the rhythm of time...
"I see... A heart?"
Lilith chuckled.
"Nope."
Chase tilted his head, feeling his eyes begin to burn from the sight of the colossal ball of flames.
The colors began to shift, as greens and blues began to infuse with the other colors in a strange amount of harmony.
They were dancing around each other, with little to no order as they did so.
"I see..."
Lilith grinned.
"You see what?"
Her grin widened as she asked.
Chase began to look on with amazement, his hand began to outstretch as his body sizzled under the beautiful heat.
"I see chaos..."
Lilith nodded in approval.
"What is chaos?"
Chase tilted his head.
"I do not know... I don't quite understand it..."
He answered honestly, as he continued to stare as his eyes began to darken from the immense heat that burnt them until his sight was no more.
"Good, because chaos is not something that you can understand. Although... I think you would like to know the definition before you let it consume your very being..."
Chase awaited a moment, only realizing that his hearing was burning away as well.
He had already lost touch, so he spoke.
"Please..."
She waited just a second longer before answering.
"Chaos... Is perfect order... It is uncontrolled, yet it is perfected harmony, it acts with no laws, yet it does not act harshly, it is beautiful yet destructive. And in the beginning... There was only chaos... Just as in the end... There will only be chaos..."
Then he died.
