Chapter 218 - Battlefield

Michael was in shock, even though they were holding the line, thousands of deranged dog-like creatures kept breaking through, and they were relentless.

He swung his scythe upwards ripping the snout free from its owner.

The kobold made a weird gargling noise which struck fear into Michael's being, so he cut it down further, ending its life swiftly.

Neveah was battling next to him, the clumsy girl was actually keeping herself together quite well, she had a sword that seemed quite heavy for her small stature but was using it with deadly precision.

'This has to end soon...'

Michael thought, scanning the battlefield for the faceless man.

Three forces were the reason that the frontlines hadn't collapsed yet.

And it was incredible.

Zelenna, The faceless man, and Professor Luke were completely destroying entire hordes of kobolds...

When Luke grew exhausted after slaying hundreds of kobolds with his two crossbows that could collapse into foldable blades- Zelenna took his place on her giant griffin, striking from above with a bronze spear in each hand.

And when Zelenna was caught up in a bind, a single force ripped through countless monsters with nothing but his energetic pressure.

He had a rapier but he rarely needed to use it, as when he walked... Creatures died...

Michael wondered if the man who had trained him was secretly a god in disguise, but dismissed it based on the current scene.

For the first time, The Faceless Man fell back and attacked with his rapier as two giant kobolds charged him.

He let his body fall backwards, tossing his rapier in the air, and catching himself with his hands, pushing him back up with so much force the ground shattered underneath him.

He kicked one of the kobolds in the chest, knocking it back about thirty feet, then he snagged his rapier out of the air and launched what could have been a thousand thrusts in a single second as the other kobold exploded into a cloud of blood and flesh.

Michael dropped his guard for single second and was overwhelmed instantly, as a kobold jumped on him, ripping at his helmet.

Pain radiated in his face, as several of its claws slashed quicker than he could react.

Then a sliver of light pierced the air above him, and the kobold fell limp on top of Michael.

Static energy was sparking from the kobold's corpse.

Michael looked behind, to see that Equan was standing on Reinhart's shoulders, and sniping everything that got too close to the frontlines.

It was an unbelievable sight, for Equan to hold steady on the force that Reinhart was, being a tank for the frontlines and all and uses such a large sword at close range. Yet it didn't hinder Equan's ability to fight at range or even point blank.

'He got even stronger...'

Michael thought.

'But so did I...'

Then he pushed up with all of his Axis, letting it run ramped throughout his body as time felt like it was slowing down.

He dodged through the hordes of kobolds and slashed as he sprinted past each one, ending countless lives with his scythe and quick movements.

Neveah lost balance and nearly collapsed, but Michael was already at her side, fighting off several kobolds in front of her, as arrows made of spectral and ghostly energy shot from Reinhart's shoulders.

They were starting to overwhelm the kobolds, but Neveah let out a scream from behind.

He couldn't hear what she yelled but it was too late to try to figure it out as a blade pierced through his armor and into his back.

He turned realizing she was trying to warn him.

He trembled and tried to shake the kobold but it wouldn't budge.

Then the short sword came down again, and this time Michael shut his eyes fearing the worst.

However he heard the slashing of flesh before he felt anypain.

Opening his eyes barely, Gabriel had slit the throat of the creature in a single movement, and went on to the next target as the kobold fell from his back.

Gabriel, Reinhart, Equan, Michael, and Neveah were somehow fighting back the horde.

Even though Michael was bleeding quite bad, he was putting up impressive kills and even keeping the others safe.

When their defense broke even slightly, Gabriel was able to flank around, sneaking through the forces of the kobolds and attacking from behind, and if they did break through, Neveah's sword met them swiftly.

Even when held at a stalemate, Equan would snipe several kobolds and even pierce through multiple with the same arrow.

Reinhart was the entire frontline army at some points, even with no catalyst, he was toppling over the kobolds and smashing through them with pure force.

As Michael slashed through several monsters with the same strike, another force shot straight through the frontlines and into the backlines of the kobold forces, ripping and slashing with a sword.

'Onyx is truly an impressive force to see on the battlefield...'

Michael thought, wiping sweat from his eyes.

His breath was ragged but he couldn't get tired just yet.

Then the ground shook, and several kobolds broke through their defenses, killing an adventure and moving to the next one.

However, a powerful gust of wind shot through and picked the kobolds up and ripped them into pieces in only a few seconds.

The girl with elven markings was standing in the backline and holding her hands up in a spell casting manner, immediately moving to her own next target and shooting a force of wind right at one of the bigger kobolds.

Next to Michael, Leo appeared splitting the skull of a kobold with his axe, and backing up into Michael.

"Just like old times..."

He chuckled, knocking away the blade of a kobold.

"Yeah... Except we can't get thrown out of the game for murder..."

"Exactly... Let's kill em all..."

Leo growled, grabbing a kobold by its snout and crushing it with his bare hands.

Then the ground trembled and everyone including the enemy kobolds collapsed to the ground.

Michael panicked and let out a groan as he tried to push himself up.

His ears were ringing as he realized just how bad the situation had gotten.

Leo yelled something inaudible as he picked Michael up by his arm screaming in his face.

He couldn't hear what he was saying but it was very urgent.

In the distance, trees began to fall one by one...

Then three terrible goliath sized figures appeared in the dust of the destruction.

They were each the size of an entire castle, causing Michael's blood to run cold.

Next to him, Leo was breathing hard, and had stopped yelling as his face went pale.

In all honesty...

Michael had been convinced that they were all going to die.
