Chapter 99 - The Pain of Recognition

I opened my eyes, a dull ache throbbing in my head, reminding me of the nightmares I'd just escaped. I sat up slowly, taking in the familiar surroundings of Oberon keep, yet it felt strangely foreign.

I almost thought I would wake up in my grandma's home, I thought bitterly, longing for the comfort of a simpler time.

Suddenly, a sharp pain sliced through my skull, and I cried out, "Ah!"

Memories flooded back in a chaotic rush-my moments with Kairan and Kai intertwining like vines, each recollection cutting deeper than the last. I saw Kairan, his lips brushing against mine in the cottage, the warmth of that moment clashing violently with the chill settling in my heart. I remembered confessing my feelings, baring my soul to him, only to have those memories erased over and over again.

Why did he play with my memories?

And then the palace memories crashed in. I was lifted into the air, Kairan's voice breaking through the chaos, a plea that echoed in my mind.
