"Melody, you take a rest first. James and I have some things to discuss," the old man said to Melody Yoody.
Melody Yoody knew the old man had words to share privately with James Brown, so she wisely went out. In these big families, women are generally used for marriage alliances and rarely participate in family affairs. It's quite rare for someone like Melody Yoody to be involved. There are some things they don't want Melody Yoody to know, but she's used to it and doesn't feel uncomfortable about it.
"Go back and rest more, it's been a tiring day," James Brown instructed again, finally turning to close the door, reaching for a cigarette and lighting it. He had been holding back from smoking in front of Melody Yoody, but now he finally could.
"Hey, give me one. This cigarette tastes pretty good," the old man asked for one, took two puffs, and praised, "Not bad, this Lucy Campbell got you some good cigarettes."
James Brown said proudly, "Not bad indeed."
