Rochan, Renette, and the rest were a heartbeat too late in reacting to Mars' movements, so they weren't capable of catching up to him.

Kiernan put on brakes, stopped himself in his tracks, and as Mars' warhammer strike came at him, he swiftly sidestepped to avoid the hit.
The warhammer kept on his trajectory, and with wide eyes, Langham watched as it came straight at him.
Before he could utter another word, the warhammer shattered his head into pieces, and Langham's body just dropped to the ground lifeless.
A silence fell over the criminals as their faces turned pale.

Rochan screamed and, with sword in hand, stabbed it deep into Mars' back until it went straight through.
