Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 Murder Case

~{GM_Babel}~

So... looks like we got a murder case.

The reason most of the adventurers crowded around the pub was because Hashana, the guy who gave me the quest item before, had died.

And it is proven by the dead body on the floor, and when I look over the dead by name, it was Hashana itself.

I already looked it up before, but Hashana was level 4

As Loki familia asked questions left and right, taking charge of the murder case, I was momentarily left confused

...Just what happened to him? Not only was he killed, but his whole face was torn off. I only manage to recognize him the moment my HUD tells me it's name.

The only culprit I can think of was the girl he was with whom he was sleeping with.

Hm... for a murder case, I think I have one character I can use.

I muttered under my breath, "Character usage: Connor."

[Character usage Connor confirmed]

This time, I'd chosen Connor from Detroit: Become Human—an android detective equipped with the unique ability to gather intricate details about his surroundings and reconstruct events in 3D.

Though I doubt it could work since it always ends up gibberish written by AI, I thought this could be a great chance since most of my ability of character abilities seem to improve in this world.

As my eye glows blue, I begin to scan the entire room and begin to trace murder

Instantly, my perception of the world shifted. Data streams and holographic projections appeared, overlaying the room like an augmented reality map.

I swept my gaze over the room, analyzing each detail with precision:

A piece of armor is missing, its absence glaring among the scattered equipment.

Bags shredded violently, their contents strewn about—evidence of frustration or rage.

Quest paper, He received an order to get an item from the 30th floor.

The victim's neck twisted unnaturally, the head entirely removed with such force that it was unmistakably the work of someone far beyond human strength.

Blood still fresh, confirming the culprit couldn't have gone far.

The fragments of data came together, and suddenly, the scene began to materialize before me in vivid holographic detail. A reconstruction of the murder unfolded right in front of my eyes.

The victim and the attacker were together, seemingly intimate—having sex, no less—when the tension shifted. The attacker may have found the person latched onto his neck, twisting it with such brutal power that his head was torn clean off.

She tore apart the bags in frustration, searching for something—something she desperately wanted but couldn't find.

Finally, she donned the dead man's armor, disguising herself before leaving the room.

Connor's internal database updated with alarming precision: [Suspect estimated to be Level 5.]

Level 5… A woman of that caliber wasn't common in Orari. Aside from Mia Grand, there were only a handful of adventurers who had reached that level—and most of them were in the Loki Familia. That ruled them out.

Which left only one plausible suspect. Revis. The girl she slept before.

"Analysis complete," I muttered, the holographic projections fading away as I deactivated the ability.

Holy shit. I couldn't stop the thought from surfacing. That was far more useful than I'd ever imagined. I'd assumed it would spit out gibberish—nonsensical data like it always did—but this… this was something else entirely.

Connor's abilities weren't just functional here—they were terrifyingly effective. If I could use this properly, I could even gather history data and make a bunch of money from it.

But still... I ignore the curious glance of Amazon, seeing the floating screen as I look through the information about Revis.

Thought there were a few girls named Revis, none are confirmed to be level 5 or above.

After confirming my findings, I stayed silent, listening intently to the ongoing conversation. Finn, as sharp as ever, had pieced together most of the events surrounding the murder. He recounted how Hashana had received a quest to retrieve an item from the 30th floor, and the chain of events that likely followed.

He'd gotten most of it right—but there were a few key details he'd missed.

As the group quieted down, pondering their next move, I clapped my hands to draw everyone's attention. The sharp sound echoed through the room, snapping them out of their thoughts.

"Your guess was correct, Finn," I said, meeting his gaze, "but you're missing one crucial piece of information."

Finn's sharp eyes narrowed slightly. No, more like he is intrigued that he was forgetting something. "Which is?"

I pointed to the conspicuously missing armor. "Where is his armor?"

"Armor?"

"Yes. Think about it. If Hashana heads to the 30th floor without a single other familia member seeing as there is none of the Gashena members around, then there is no way he is going to risk going down without at least armour or maybe a weapon. It doesn't make sense."

The room fell into a heavy silence as the implication began to sink in. I scanned the faces of the adventurers around me, some nodding slightly as they connected the dots.

Then, I added, glancing at the Loki Familia members, "Well, you guys are an exception, considering most of you are Level 5 or 6. You're strong enough to get away with wearing casual clothes in the Dungeon. But for someone like Hashana? He wouldn't risk it even more since he is alone."

My gaze shifted to the pub's owner, who stood near the back of the room, watching nervously. "Tell me," I said, my tone calm but firm, "when Hashana was here, was he wearing his armor or not?"

The owner hesitated, her brow furrowing in thought, before shaking her head. "No… he was wearing armor when he came in."

"And there you have it," I said, spreading my arms slightly. "I could think of two reasons: either the culprit stole the armour or...

Finn snapped his hand. "She is using the armour herself."

I nod at him. "That's right, she could be using his armor to disguise or hide her identity." My gaze flicked toward the windows. "And she could be hiding among us right now, blending in with the crowd."

Before I could continue, Tiona suddenly leaned in, her face mere inches from mine. Her wide, curious eyes bore into me, and I instinctively leaned back, startled by the sudden proximity.

"Was that your ability?" she asked, her voice a mix of excitement and suspicion.

"...Why would you think it was my ability?" I asked, trying to sound nonchalant, though her intensity was throwing me off.

"I heard you muttering something," she said, her sharp gaze unwavering. "And your eyes… they glowed blue!"

Dang, I thought. That sharp Amazonian perception wasn't doing me any favors. Level 5 adventurers were truly on another level, able to pick up on even the smallest details.

"...Yeah," I admitted reluctantly, leaning back a bit more to create some space. "That was my ability."

Her eyes lit up with curiosity, her interest clearly piqued. "What kind of ability is that?"

I sighed, feeling the weight of their expectations. "Look, can we just get to the point of what I was saying?"

"S-Sorry..." Tiona mumbled, backing off slightly, but her gaze never strayed far from me.

Finn, ever the calm and calculating leader, glanced between us. His expression was unreadable, but there was something in his eyes—some silent calculation that told me he was picking up on the details others might miss. After a moment, he spoke up, his tone thoughtful.

"I rarely trust unproven claims," he began, his voice steady, "but... my instincts tell me he's right."

After that, Finn gave the order for Bors Elder to gather everyone in the area.

To ensure no one escaped, first-tier adventurers were stationed at each exit. Their presence alone was enough to make anyone think twice about running.

Still, I wasn't sure how I'd ended up standing beside Finn in front of the gathered crowd, but here I was.

"So… how are we going to find her?" Tiona asked, resting her massive sword casually on her shoulder like it weighed nothing.

"It's simple," Finn replied. "We just need to focus on anyone wearing full-body armor. By my count, there are six people here dressed like that."

I scanned the crowd, my eyes narrowing as I activated my HUD. One by one, I checked the names floating above each person, focusing on those in heavy armor.

Then, I saw her.

She stood out—not just because of the full armor covering her entire body, but because something about her screamed "wrong." The name "Revis" hovered above her head on my HUD, confirming my suspicion.

A smirk crept across my face. "Found her~"

Without hesitation, I materialized an Anti-materiel rifle, its sleek form appearing out of thin air. I aimed at her, my scope zeroed in.

"Mister…?" a nearby elf gasped, her expression a mix of surprise and concern as her eyes locked onto my rifle.

Through the scope, I steadied my aim. My finger squeezed the trigger, and a deafening bang echoed through the area.

Smoke curled from the barrel of my rifle as I lowered it, looking over to see the chaos I'd caused. Everyone around me was covering their ears, their faces contorted in discomfort.

"Whoops," I muttered, realizing I'd forgotten to warn them about the noise. But it didn't matter—I'd accomplished my goal.

In the distance, Revis stood, her weapon shattered in her hands. She had managed to block the bullet, but the sheer force had destroyed her weapon.

"Heh." A smirk tugged at my lips as I spoke. "Blocking a Level 3 attack, huh? You must be the one who killed him."

The realization hit like a shockwave. In an instant, the Loki Familia adventurers shifted into combat stances, their eyes sharp and focused on the culprit.

"I suggest you surrender, you damn criminal," I said

The crowd around Revis instinctively backed away, giving her a wide berth as tension filled the air.

As everyone directed their gaze at her in tension, Tione glanced at me with curiosity.

Tione glanced at me, curiosity flickering in her eyes. "Hey… where did that weapon come from?"

From her perspective, it must've seemed like it appeared out of nowhere. Thankfully, I'd already thought of a plausible explanation.

"It's a skill," I said smoothly, disassembling the .50 Cal sniper rifle. "Us marksmen have a unique ability that lets us summon a variety of weapons—what we call 'guns.'"

To demonstrate, I materialized an RPG in my hands, casually pointing it at Revis.

Tione's eyes widened in awe before narrowing slightly as she turned her attention back to the culprit. "Heh… interesting," she muttered, her tone a mix of intrigue and caution.

As the adventurers around Revis edged farther away, she suddenly brought a hand to her mouth and let out a sharp whistle.

I raised an eyebrow, confused. "Why would a whistle make any differe—"

My question was cut off as the ground began to rumble. Green tentacles burst from the earth, writhing and twisting as they spread out in all directions. At the center, a grotesque flower bloomed, its petals glistening with something that looked far from natural.

"...Oh."

ANDDD CUT!

Sorry for the late chapter, I was writing the nsfw part.

Since it had been a while I was this free without any work getting in my way, I thought I could take this chance to write.

I still don't know how those people in the webnovel or other novels manage to write from chapter one to thousand chapter easily by hand, meanwhile I am struggling to write a single chapter by hand even with the assistance of AI and Grammarly.

Anyway don't forget to leave a like and review, and if you want to support me, go to my Patreon.
