Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: You're my orbit

The harsh morning light pierced through the curtains, and Willy woke up with a pounding, merciless headache. He groaned, shifting on the mattress, but as he reached out, his hand brushed against a small crystal glass resting on the nightstand. Beside it lay a neatly folded piece of heavy paper.

Willy picked it up, recognizing Tim's elegant, cursive strokes immediately:

"Good morning, my love. You accumulated quite a heavy hangover from last night, which is why I crafted this special tonic for you. Drink the entire glass and your physical discomfort will melt away. I had to deploy to the university campus exceptionally early today to handle some loose ends. If my afternoon clears up ahead of schedule, I will drive back to escort you to your own classes. I love you endlessly."

Willy offered a soft, sleepy smile, entirely accustomed to this absolute level of devotion. He drained the glass completely. Within minutes, the heavy throbbing behind his eyes began to dissolve, just as Tim had promised. He wandered downstairs into the quiet kitchen, finding a beautifully plated, fresh breakfast waiting for him inside the refrigerator. As he took his first bite, his phone vibrated against the marble counter with an incoming text from Seb.

Seb:"We don't have an official lecture scheduled on our calendar today. A few of us are planning an intense study gathering to prepare for the upcoming examination period. Will you join our circle? We haven't locked down a specific venue yet."

Knowing he was completely free from campus obligations for the day, Willy felt a sudden wave of lethargy. He had zero desire to abandon the sanctuary of his home.

Willy:"Let's simply gather at my residence to study, guys. I am far too lazy to cross the city grid today."

Seb:"Agreed. I will notify the rest of our brothers immediately."

After finishing his meal, Willy walked upstairs to take a long, steaming shower. As he was dressing in comfortable clothes, it suddenly struck him that he hadn't updated his husband regarding the change of plans.

Willy:"I don't have a lecture today, honey. The boys are traveling to our house for a joint study session."

Tim:"Understood, sweetheart. I will execute an early exit strategy from my meetings and purchase a mountain of fresh provisions for the group."

It wasn't long before the front doorbell rang, and Seb, Al, and Logan walked into the spacious foyer, shaking the light rain from their jackets.

Al looked around the quiet living room, raising an eyebrow. "Oh, are you completely alone, Willy? We fully calculated that Tim would be occupying this space with you."

Willy locked the door behind them, smiling. "He is currently tied up at the university. Why do you ask, Al?"

Al shot a pointed, wicked smirk toward Seb. "Because someone within this room took the liberty of extending a formal invitation to Ethan as well."

Seb's cheeks flushed slightly as he defended himself. "I simply promised Ethan days ago that we would navigate these complex study topics together so I could assist his grades. Then you guys decided to merge into the calendar, so it is entirely my fault."

Willy watched the subtle tension between them, a quiet realization dawning on his mind. There is definitely an unspoken alignment forming between those two, Willy thought, a fond smile touching his lips. They are spending nearly every waking hour locked within each other's orbit.

Willy waved them toward the grand dining table. "It's perfectly fine, guys. Tim will be joining our circle very soon anyway."

They spread their heavy textbooks and lecture notes across the table, diving into the material. Willy, Logan, and Seb easily established themselves as the academic anchors of the group, their focus unbroken. Alex, however, managed to surprise the entire room. It was a complete marvel how he had successfully reached his fourth year of university despite his absolute laziness toward academia. He routinely skipped lectures entirely, or spent the duration of the sessions sound asleep at his desk, yet he possessed an uncanny ability to clear his examination hurdles. He routinely occupied the literal bottom rank when the final grades were published, but that data carried zero weight for him. For Alex, a simple passing mark was the ultimate milestone, and he possessed zero care for his GPA ranking.

After an hour of intense concentration, the group collectively agreed to take a brief intermission. Right on cue, the front door clicked open, and Ethan stepped into the house.

Ethan smiled, waving his notebook. "Hello to the brain trust."

Willy looked past his shoulder, his eyes searching the empty hallway. "Hello, Ethan. Did Tim not drive back with you?"

Ethan paused, a look of genuine confusion crossing his features as if the question lacked logic. "He didn't surface at all today, Willy. His seat was entirely vacant during the morning lecture."

Willy's heart skipped a beat, a cold wave of anxiety hitting his chest. "But... he explicitly messaged me stating he was on the campus grounds."

Without a second thought, Willy snatched his phone from the table, dialing Tim's number. The line simply rang out, shifting directly to voicemail. He dialed again, and then a third time, but the silence on the other end remained absolute. What on earth is transpiring? Willy thought, his chest tightening as dark thoughts began to cloud his mind. Why is he refusing to answer his line?

Seb reached out, his voice calm and grounding. "Breathe, Willy. Calm your mind. Place another call in a little while. I am entirely certain he simply has his phone set to silent mode."

Ethan nodded in agreement, leaning against the chair. "Seb is completely right, man. Give him a fraction of time."

Suddenly, the phone in Willy's palm erupted into a loud ring, Tim's caller ID flashing on the screen. Willy answered instantly, his voice tense.

Tim's smooth, apologetic voice traveled through the speaker. "My deepest apologies, sweetheart. My volume control was completely muted, and I just registered your multiple missed calls. Has something occurred within?"

Willy exhaled a shaky breath. "Where exactly are you, Tim?"

Tim answered smoothly, the background noise of traffic humming through the line. "I just finished securing a massive haul of fresh groceries at the market. I will pull into the driveway in about ten to fifteen minutes."

Willy closed his eyes, forcing his shoulders to relax. "Alright... we are waiting for your arrival."

Despite the reassurance, an intense lack of peace lingered in Willy's veins. His mind refused to rest. If his seat was entirely vacant at the lecture hall, where exactly was he navigating his time this morning?

True to his word, fifteen minutes later, Tim's sports car roared up to the front entrance. He marched into the kitchen, his strong arms laden with heavy bags overflowing with premium ingredients.

Tim offered a bright, charismatic smile to the room. "Hello, gentlemen. Ethan, how did the morning lecture unfold? Did the professor launch another inquiry regarding my absent attendance?"

Ethan laughed, shaking his head. "No, but our final examination schedule is officially initiating, and you haven't graced his classroom a single time this semester. How exactly do you plan to pass this course, man?"

Tim let out a rich, untroubled laugh, looking entirely unbothered by the academic threat. "Don't waste your energy worrying about my standing, Ethan. You boys focus entirely on your studies, and I shall craft a spectacular feast to reward your minds."

Tim turned toward the counter to unpack the provisions, and Willy quietly trailed behind him, stepping into the isolated space of the kitchen.

Willy looked straight into his husband's eyes, his voice low. "Tim... were you truly not present at the lecture today?"

Tim paused, setting down a package of fresh herbs. He turned around, his expression softening completely as he took in Willy's guarded posture. "No, sweetheart, I wasn't. I was locked in a private meeting with the university rector. The administration is currently launching a massive new development project and they are aggressively scouting for corporate investors. They approached my office to gauge if I could connect them with any elite financing networks, because as a registered student, I obviously cannot fund a multi-million dollar corporate project independently. They deeply valued my strategic perspective on the development. I successfully bridged the gap between the rector and a premium investor, and offered some foundational advice to their board."

Hearing the detailed, logical explanation, the heavy knot of suspicion inside Willy's chest instantly dissolved into absolute relief. Tim hadn't fabricated a lie; he had truly been navigating university affairs, just through a different avenue.

Tim stepped closer, his voice dropping into a velvety murmur. "Come here, my dear."

Tim wrapped his powerful arms securely around Willy's waist, pulling him flush against his chest while his hand gently stroked the back of Willy's head, soothing his lingering anxiety. "Did your beautiful mind actually calculate that I would deliver a falsehood to you? Oh, my sweet angel, you must have been so incredibly worried."

Willy buried his face deep into the warm curve of Tim's neck, his cheeks burning with a sudden wave of embarrassment. He felt too self-conscious to meet his husband's gaze, cradled entirely by his warmth.

Tim kissed the top of his head, his voice turning incredibly solemn, yet sweet. "Always initiate a direct inquiry with me whenever a shadow of doubt touches your thoughts, Willy. I give you my solemn vow that I will never conceal a single truth from your heart..."

Tim went completely silent for a long, heavy beat, his gaze drifting out toward the window as if wrestling with a hidden demon.

When his eyes locked back onto Willy, his voice was thick with emotion. "There is... just one singular chapter of my life that I physically cannot unpack for you right now, because it remains deeply bound to my family's survival. But the very second that dark storm clears, I promise I will unveil every single variable to your eyes. I will never lie to you, Willy."

Tim lifted Willy's hand, pressing a soft, reverent kiss against his knuckles. "Now, return to your brothers and dominate those textbooks."

Willy quickly lifted his face, planting a swift, loving kiss directly onto Tim's cheek. "Thank you for everything, Tim."

He spun on his heel and darted back into the dining room, joining his friends who were patiently awaiting his return. The tips of Willy's ears were completely flushed crimson. The boys collectively tracked his bright red face, but out of pure respect, they kept their lips locked, already decoding the romantic nature of the delay.

Al suddenly looked around the room, deadpan. "Hey, Willy, where exactly do you store the house fire extinguisher? I am deeply terrified that a massive inferno is about to ignite within these walls."

Willy rolled his eyes, throwing a playful punch directly into Al's shoulder. "You will never require its deployment, Al... unlike your own lonely soul."

Al winced dramatically, rubbing his arm. "Ouch! That verbal strike carried far more physical pain than an actual punch."

Logan chuckled, flipping his page. "Someone's heart is burning with jealousy, and now he truly requires an extinguisher. You brought that on yourself, Al. You initiated the conflict."

Seb leaned back, his eyes turning dead serious as he looked at Al. "It is entirely your own fault that your personal life remains a vacant lot, Al. How many cycles do you intend to waste obsessing over your ex-girlfriend? It is high time to reconfigure your path, leave the past in the shadows, and find a fresh counterpart."

Al's playful demeanor instantly evaporated, his features tightening with defensive discomfort. "Wow, are we executing a full roast of my character now? How can you people treat a solitary soul with such cruelty? It is exceptionally difficult when every single brother in your circle possesses a gorgeous partner and you are left entirely isolated. If you continue to breach this topic, I am launching an immediate exit strategy."

Al stood up abruptly, gathering his coat, but the group instantly reached out, pulling him back into his seat with matching laughs.

Willy smiled warmly. "Don't depart, Al. We were simply trading jests."

Seb, however, didn't soften his gaze. "I am not joking, Alex. It is truly time to move forward with your existence and let the old ghosts dissolve."

Al quickly shifted his eyes toward his notebook, his voice dropping into a tight murmur. "Let's permanently terminate this topic and channel our focus back toward the examination material."

Alex always executed a complete shutdown whenever this specific boundary was breached. A massive amount of time had elapsed on the calendar since his romantic split, yet his soul remained entirely chained to the memory of the girl who had broken his heart.

The group settled back into a quiet rhythm, the scratch of pens filling the room.

Meanwhile, inside the kitchen, Tim had prepared an absolute mountain of food. He possessed zero data regarding what specific dishes Willy's friends preferred, so he had simply transformed the counter into a high-end culinary display. When everything reached a flawless state, he stepped back into the dining room.

Tim offered a warm smile. "Aren't your minds starving? The feast is officially finalized."

Willy stood up instantly, stretching his arms. "I am so profoundly hungry I can barely decode these sentences."

The boys migrated into the kitchen, but the second their eyes registered the massive banquet spread across the island, their jaws dropped in absolute, speechbound wonder.

Logan blinked, stunned. "Did you... physically craft this entire spread independently, Tim?"

Tim shrugged elegantly, setting down a stack of linen napkins. "I lacked the specific details of your culinary preferences, so I chose to engineer a variety of options. We have a rich, cheesy beef pasta, a creamy shrimp udon, sweet honey BBQ chicken wings, a vegan carbonara, and a fresh broccoli pesto paired with linguine and crispy pangrattato."

Willy stared at the breathtaking spread, his heart swelling. "Thank you so much, honey. But there was absolutely no requirement to construct such a massive banquet for us."

Tim's eyes melted as he looked at his husband. "I am exceptionally restrictive with my own diet, so I always take immense joy in offering a diverse universe of flavors to my guests. The preparation caused me zero burden; on the contrary, if these dishes bring comfort to your circle, my heart will be profoundly happy."

Seb offered a polite bow of his head. "Thank you, Tim. Everything looks like an absolute masterpiece."

Al shook his head in wonder. "I honestly never calculated that we would be treated to a five-star dining event today."

Ethan laughed, nudging his friend's shoulder. "Why on earth did you keep hidden that you were a master chef, Tim?"

Tim chuckled, pouring fresh drinks for everyone. "Because I am far from a professional, Ethan. Since my own palate refuses to tolerate standard food, I simply forced myself to master the art of cooking years ago."

They collectively took their seats around the grand table, but Willy's analytical gaze instantly locked onto a glaring detail there was an extra, fully dressed plate sitting vacant at the end of the arrangement.

Willy questioned, glancing up. "Are we expecting another guest to join our coordinates, Tim?"

Tim offered a mysterious, knowing smirk. "I took the liberty of extending an invitation to Miles. He was deeply eager to initiate a conversation with you, and since your meeting yesterday was completely cut short by tension, I brought him into our calendar today. He should be breaching the front gate any second now."

The words had barely left Tim's lips when the distinct purr of Miles's sports car echoed from the driveway, followed by the sound of heavy footsteps rushing up the front porch.

Miles marched into the dining room, throwing his hands up in a dramatic display. "Hello to the beautiful people! Thank you immensely, my spectacular brother-in-law, for securing my invitation to this feast. My own boyfriend and biological brother didn't even possess the brain capacity to remember my existence today."

Logan flushed, looking down at his plate. "Because this was strictly a study gathering to prepare for our examinations, Miles. ."

Willy chuckled, taking a sip of his water. "Exactly. Why on earth would we invite an outside asset to a study session?"

Miles dramatically sprinted over to Tim, hiding his massive frame behind his brother-in-law's shoulders. "Brother-in-law, I am begging for your protection! Do you witness how these wolves treat my heart? They always form a united front to crush my spirit!"

Tim let out a rich laugh, patting Miles's arm reassuringly. "Take the seat directly beside me, Miles. Within my perimeter, you are entirely safe from their strikes."

Miles beamed, sitting down with pride. "You are officially the greatest brother-in-law to ever exist in this universe."

Al leaned over, whispering loudly to Willy. "You better guard your territory, Willy. I am beginning to calculate that Miles loves Tim far more than he loves you."

Miles nodded in absolute, vigorous agreement. "He crafts Michelin-star meals for my stomach, never omits my name from the guest list, and shields my body from emotional damage. He is undeniably the superior brother."

Seb laughed, shaking his head. "Willy, I project that in a few months, Miles will formally address you as his brother-in-law and refer to Tim as his actual brother."

Willy smiled softly, his eyes resting on Tim's happy face. "To be completely honest, I wouldn't be surprised at all."

With Miles anchored beside Tim, an incredibly joyous, vibrant atmosphere consumed the dining hall. The room echoed with endless jests, booming laughter, and shared stories. It was a flawless, beautiful afternoon, completely washing away the toxic shadows of the corporate estate.

As the meal reached its conclusion, Willy stood up, gathering the empty plates. "Tim, you have done enough today. Go rest in the lounge, our circle will handle the cleanup operations."

Tim instantly intercepted his hands, his tone firm and unyielding. "There is zero requirement for that, Willy. I am not suffering from a single ounce of fatigue. I am well aware of how critical these examinations are for your academic standing. Return to your studies immediately; I shall handle the washing and restore order to the kitchen."

Miles stood up, rolling up his designer sleeves with a grin. "I shall deploy as his assistant handler for this mission."

The boys reluctantly yielded, migrating back to the dining table to lock their focus back onto their textbooks, while Tim and Miles vanished into the kitchen, their lighthearted banter mixing with the sound of running water.

An hour later, Miles looked utterly exhausted, leaning against the counter as if he had just executed hard manual labor, having never performed a single domestic chore in his entire privileged life. Tim and Miles walked back into the dining room to join the group, but just as Tim took a seat next to Willy, his phone erupted with a sharp, vibrating ring.

Tim pulled the device from his pocket, his eyes locking onto the secure number. He answered instantly, his voice dropping into an ice-cold register. "Report. What has transpired?... Understood. I am deploying to your coordinates this exact second."

He cut the line, terminating the call. The warmth completely evaporated from Tim's features, his face transforming into a terrifying mask of pure, unyielding stone. He looked absolutely dreadful, a dangerous aura radiating from his stiff shoulders as he prepared for an immediate departure.

Tim looked down at Willy, his voice tightly strained. "I must leave immediately. A critical emergency has breached my corporate operations. Willy... there is a strong probability I won't be capable of returning to our home this evening."

Before Willy could even process the heavy statement or form a single word of inquiry, Tim spun on his heel and sprinted out of the house, the front door slamming heavily behind him. He didn't even wait for his husband's response. The sheer magnitude of his haste sent a shiver of pure terror down Willy's spine. Whatever dark variables had just surfaced, they were monumental enough to pull the dangerous shadow cat right back into the line of fire.
