Chapter 96 - Space Paradox - Lava Field - Sticky show

As they approached the elevator that would lead them closer to the CORE, a sweet, sugary scent wafted through the air, growing stronger with each step. The elevator doors opened, revealing not another direct path forward but a room adorned with webs. The walls shimmered with sticky silk, and the ground was dotted with teacups and colorful plates shaped like pastries.

The Encounter with Muffet

In the center of the room stood a petite spider monster with lavender skin, six arms, and a large, mischievous smile. She swayed lightly to the rhythm of an unseen tune, holding a teapot in one hand and a stack of donuts in another. Her voice was melodic and sharp, dripping with faux politeness.

Muffet, with a giggle: "Ahuhuhuhu~! Welcome, my darlings! You've wandered into my little parlor, and it seems you've stepped right into my web. How delightful!"

Velthara, smirking: "Let me guess—you want our souls, too?"

Muffet, feigning shock: "Moi? Oh no, my dears. I simply wish for a... donation. Surely you wouldn't pass through without contributing to a humble spider's cause?"

Kaeltherion, stepping forward: "We don't have time for this. Let us through."

Muffet, narrowing her many eyes: "Ahuhuhu~! How rude. I think you'll find that in my web, time is something I control."

With a flick of her wrist, threads of silk shot from the walls, closing off the exits. Spiders poured out from every corner, spinning more webs and surrounding the group. Muffet gracefully twirled, summoning massive spiders to stand at her sides.

The Battle with Muffet

The group braced themselves as Muffet raised her teapot, pouring scalding liquid that rained down in a pattern of webs.

Kaeltherion immediately charged forward, aiming to cut through the silk. However, Muffet danced nimbly out of the way, her spiders blocking his path.

Lymtherion, gritting his teeth: "Her attacks are coordinated. She's toying with us."

Velthara, smirking: "Then let's make it a game she loses."

Muffet launched waves of spiders that scuttled across the ground, forcing the group to dodge while also avoiding sticky patches of webbing that slowed their movements.

Elyssara, calmly: "Wait—she's holding back. She doesn't seem as aggressive as the others."

Kaeltherion, growling: "What's your point? She's still trying to trap us."

Elyssara, calling out to Muffet: "We don't want to fight you. If it's money you need, we'll help however we can."

Muffet, pausing mid-attack: "Oh? How generous. But I don't think you truly understand my... needs."

Suddenly, Muffet summoned a giant cupcake-like spider, which lunged at the group, shooting sticky frosting and silk in all directions.

Turning the Tide

While Kaeltherion and Velthara distracted Muffet with relentless attacks, Elyssara and Zalthirion focused on reasoning with her.

Elyssara, softly: "Muffet, the world above is vast and full of opportunities for someone like you. You don't have to live off the souls of others. There are better ways."

Muffet, her expression softening slightly: "Ahuhuhu~! Such sweet words. But words alone won't fill the bellies of my little darlings."

Zalthirion, stepping forward: "Then let us help. We've encountered others who needed aid. We're willing to find a way for you and your spiders to thrive."

Muffet hesitated, her many eyes flickering with uncertainty. Finally, she lowered her teapot and gestured for the spiders to retreat.

Muffet, with a sigh: "Ahuhuhu~! Very well. You've piqued my curiosity. Perhaps you're not as heartless as the rest. Go on, then. But do visit again, darlings. I'll be watching~."

The webs parted, and the group pressed forward, relieved to have avoided a potentially deadly confrontation.

The Stage Awaits

After leaving Muffet's domain, the path led them to a grand, ornate theater stage. Bright lights shone down, and curtains drew back to reveal Mettaton in his full glory, standing center stage. The robotic showman posed dramatically, his metallic frame glittering under the lights.

Mettaton, with flair: "OH, MY DARLINGS! WHAT A SURPRISE! YOU'VE MADE IT JUST IN TIME FOR THE SHOW!"

The group groaned collectively, sensing another challenge ahead.

Velthara, muttering: "Great. Another distraction."

Mettaton, dramatically: "DISTRACTION? NO, NO, NO! THIS IS ENTERTAINMENT! AND YOU, MY DEARS, ARE THE STARS OF THIS PERFORMANCE!"

Spotlights focused on the group, and the stage transformed into a game-like arena with shifting platforms and hazards. Mettaton's voice boomed over the speakers as he launched his first attack.

The group prepared themselves for Mettaton's trials, knowing that the journey to the CORE—and their way home—was still far from over.

The Stage is Set

As the curtains fully drew back, Mettaton stood in an elaborate pink and gold gown, his metallic frame shimmering as he struck a melodramatic pose. The background shifted to a scenic view of a balcony lit by a glowing moon. Roses scattered across the stage as Mettaton held one delicately in his hand.

Mettaton, dramatically: "OH, MY DARLINGS! WELCOME TO TONIGHT'S PERFORMANCE! A TALE OF LOVE, TRAGEDY, AND UNDYING PASSION! TONIGHT, I SHALL PLAY THE LOVELY JULIETA! AND YOU—"

He pointed dramatically at the group.

Mettaton: "WILL PLAY THE STAR-CROSSED ROMEO! TOGETHER, WE SHALL DAZZLE THE UNDERGROUND WITH OUR CHEMISTRY!"

Kaeltherion, visibly annoyed: "We don't have time for this."

Velthara, smirking: "Oh, come on. This might be fun. Besides, how hard can it be to out-act a robot?"

Mettaton, with a gasp: "OUT-ACT ME? OH, DARLING, YOU'LL HAVE TO BRING YOUR A-GAME! LET US BEGIN!"

The stage shifted as Mettaton gestured, platforms rising and falling to create the illusion of a grand castle. A script appeared on a floating screen in front of the group, dictating their lines.

Act 1: The Balcony Scene

Mettaton, dramatically twirling: "OH, ROMEO, ROMEO! WHEREFORE ART THOU, ROMEO?"

He leaned against the balcony, one hand clutching his chest dramatically, while his other tossed a rose down to the group below.

Kaeltherion, reluctantly reading from the script: "...Here I am, beneath thy window, fair Julieta."

Velthara, stifling a laugh: "Wow. So much passion."

Mettaton, ignoring the sarcasm: "Deny thy father and refuse thy name! Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, and I'll no longer be a Capulet!"

Suddenly, lasers began firing across the stage, forcing the group to dodge while trying to read their lines.

Lymtherion, growling: "This isn't acting! This is an ambush!"

Mettaton, cheerfully: "OH, DARLING, A PERFORMANCE IS NOTHING WITHOUT SOME DRAMA! KEEP UP!"

Act 2: The Duel

After narrowly avoiding the lasers and delivering their lines, the stage shifted once more. This time, it became a bustling city square, with actors dressed as "Capulet Guards" appearing—each one a robot controlled by Mettaton.

Mettaton, dramatically: "OH, ROMEO, DEFEND MY HONOR! THE FOUL CAPULETS WISH TO TEAR US APART!"

Kaeltherion, raising his blade: "Finally, something I can handle."

The group fought off the robotic guards, dodging their attacks while Mettaton continued his over-the-top commentary from the side.

Mettaton, throwing a hand to his forehead: "OH, SUCH VALOR! SUCH HEROISM! YOU SHALL PROVE YOURSELF WORTHY OF MY LOVE, DARLING!"

Act 3: The Finale

The stage transformed once again, this time into a dimly lit crypt. A single spotlight shone down on Mettaton, who lay dramatically on a stone slab, holding a glowing potion in one hand.

Mettaton, tearfully: "OH, MY LOVE! THE WORLD HAS FORSAKEN US! BUT FEAR NOT, FOR WE SHALL BE TOGETHER IN DEATH!"

The group watched in disbelief as Mettaton "drank" the potion, then collapsed dramatically.

Kaeltherion, crossing his arms: "Do we... just leave him there?"

Mettaton, springing up: "OF COURSE NOT, DARLING! THIS IS A TRAGEDY! NOW, YOU MUST DELIVER YOUR FINAL MONOLOGUE!"

The screen displayed Kaeltherion's final lines, and despite his frustration, he read them begrudgingly.

Kaeltherion: "...And so, in the end, love conquers all. Even death cannot part our souls."

As he finished, Mettaton sprang to life, throwing roses into the air as fireworks exploded behind him.

Mettaton: "BRAVO! BRAVO! SUCH A MOVING PERFORMANCE! YOU WERE SIMPLY FABULOUS! NOW, ONWARD, DARLINGS, TO THE MTT RESORT! YOUR JOURNEY CONTINUES, BUT REMEMBER THIS NIGHT—FOR YOU HAVE GRACED THE STAGE WITH A STAR!"

The group groaned as the stage returned to normal, and Mettaton opened a path forward. The doors to the MTT Resort stood before them, promising new challenges ahead.
