Chapter 89 - Space Paradox - Snowy Forest - Sentried puzzles

The group moved deeper into the Snowdin forest, the cold air biting lightly at their faces, though they remained mostly unaffected due to their otherworldly resilience. Snow-covered pine trees lined the path, and faint flakes drifted lazily from the sky. The atmosphere was eerily quiet, broken only by the crunch of snow beneath their steps.

Encounters in the Forest

As they ventured further, the first signs of monsters appeared—Snowdrakes, Chilldrakes, and Ice Caps. The Snowdrakes hurled icy jokes, and the Ice Caps gloated about their fashionable icy hats.

Velthara, ever pragmatic, attempted to intimidate them by showing off her glowing soul, but the monsters merely jeered back.

Snowdrake: "Whoa, someone's overcompensating! Haha, chill out, lady!"

Kaeltherion, already losing patience, stepped forward. "Let's just fight them. These creatures are wasting time."

Before he could strike, Elyssara raised a hand. "No. Let's try something different."

She complimented Ice Cap's hat, causing the creature to preen smugly. The rest followed her lead, engaging in light conversation or choosing to listen to Snowdrake's puns. Eventually, the monsters grew bored and retreated, sparing the group further conflict.

Papyrus' Puzzles

The children soon stumbled upon Papyrus's infamous puzzles, each one more absurd than the last.

Puzzle 1: The Electric Maze

Papyrus appeared again, this time beside a jagged maze outlined by glowing blue electricity.

Papyrus: "BEHOLD! MY ELECTRIFYING MAZE! IF YOU DARE TO CROSS, YOU WILL BE ZAPPED! HOWEVER, I HAVE THE SOLUTION... BUT ONLY IF YOU CAN SOLVE MY RIDDLE FIRST!"

The "riddle" was nonsensical, involving spaghetti and snowflakes, but Elyssara, with her sharp mind, deciphered his intent and guided the group safely through.

Papyrus: "INCREDIBLE! YOU SOLVED IT! BUT MY NEXT PUZZLE WILL BE EVEN HARDER! NYEH HEH HEH HEH!"

Puzzle 2: The Snowball Course

Papyrus presented them with a snowball and a patchy course covered in icy obstacles.

Papyrus: "ROLL THE SNOWBALL INTO THE HOLE! BUT BEWARE—THE COURSE IS DESIGNED TO TEST YOUR WITS!"

Velthara smirked. "You mean it's designed to waste time."

She expertly maneuvered the snowball into the hole in record time, much to Papyrus's visible frustration.

Papyrus: "WHAT? HOW? NO MATTER! MY NEXT PUZZLE IS UNSOLVABLE!"

Puzzle 3: The Multicolored Tile Maze

The infamous multicolored tile puzzle awaited them next. Papyrus explained the convoluted rules in a barrage of rapid-fire instructions, leaving the group entirely confused.

Papyrus: "NOW... BEGIN!"

The moment they stepped forward, the tiles activated randomly, and the group stumbled their way through purely by chance. Papyrus clapped enthusiastically regardless.

Papyrus: "AMAZING! YOU'VE BESTED EVEN THE MOST COMPLEX OF MY PUZZLES! BUT YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE LAST OF ME!"

Encounters with the Royal Guard Dogs

Not long after leaving Papyrus, they came across a duo of armored dogs—Dogamy and Dogaressa, two members of the Royal Guard. Their attacks revolved around coordinated movements, with axes spinning dangerously close to the children.

Kaeltherion immediately readied himself for battle, but Elyssara intervened, noticing how the two dogs seemed focused on each other.

Elyssara: "Wait. Look—they're in love. Maybe we can... compliment that?"

The group took turns praising their bond, even feigning awe at their synchronized attacks. Eventually, the dogs softened, lowering their weapons and wagging their tails before retreating.

Dogamy: "You're not so bad after all. Maybe... just maybe, we can let you pass."

The Snow Puzzle Fields

Papyrus wasn't done with them yet. A massive puzzle field awaited—a grid of snow-covered squares with hidden traps beneath. The instructions were vague, and Papyrus stood by, eagerly watching their progress.

Lymtherion noticed faint footprints in the snow, revealing a possible safe path. Using his keen observation, he guided the others across without triggering any traps.

Papyrus: "IMPOSSIBLE! HOW DID YOU—WAIT. OH, I SEE! YOU MUST BE CHEATING! NO MATTER, MY NEXT PUZZLE WILL STOP YOU FOR SURE!"

You're absolutely right—thank you for clarifying. Let's adjust the encounter with Sans to reflect his established dynamic with the group. This meeting will simply reinforce his laid-back, comical personality rather than introduce him anew.

Nearing the Edge of the Forest

After countless absurd puzzles, including more of Papyrus's antics, the group trudged through the last stretch of Snowdin Forest. The snow-covered path brightened slightly as the dim glow of the Snowdin town ahead peeked through the trees.

They spotted Sans leaning against a tree near a wooden post that read, "WELCOME TO SNOWDIN." He waved lazily, a wide grin already plastered across his face.

Sans: "heya. looks like you made it through. i'm impressed. my bro's puzzles are... well, you know. let's just say most people don't get this far without screaming."

Velthara rolled her eyes, crossing her arms. "Your brother's puzzles are about as threatening as a froggit's jokes. We got through just fine."

Sans chuckled, his voice carrying the faint sound of a muffled snicker.

Sans: "heh, yeah, papyrus is... enthusiastic, i guess. guy's got a lot of dreams, you know? wants to join the royal guard. me? i just like kickin' back and enjoying the snow."

Zalthirion, intrigued but wary, stepped forward. "You're... not what I'd expect from a sentry. Aren't you supposed to be guarding something?"

Sans shrugged lazily, his grin widening.

Sans: "eh, i guard in my own way. just 'cause i don't look busy doesn't mean i'm not keepin' an eye on things. besides, you've already proven you can handle yourselves, right? i don't need to sweat it."

Lymtherion, ever cautious, narrowed his eyes. "You don't seem concerned about us passing through. Should we be worried about what's ahead?"

Sans tilted his head, his grin taking on a faintly mischievous edge.

Sans: "nah, no big deal. snowdin's a nice little place. my bro's probably up ahead, though, and... well, he might've cooked up a little welcome party. nothing dangerous, just, uh... loud."

Kaeltherion crossed his arms, unimpressed. "And you're just going to stand there?"

Sans: "yup. pretty good at it too. hey, you ever wanna swap tips on standing around, let me know. anyway, see ya up ahead. maybe."

With that, Sans slipped off the path, seemingly vanishing behind a tree. His casual demeanor left the group both annoyed and slightly amused.
