Chapter 496 - Chapter 496: A Period of Peace

While the God Killer was not a weapon he could personally make much use of, Shin still considered it an excellent gift. Perhaps someone like this world's Wonder Woman would appreciate it more.

Compared to the God Killer as depicted in the comics, however, the movie version was a serious disappointment. Shin even suspected that it was inferior in quality to the Supreme Blade from the One Piece universe.

When it was first introduced, it carried an intimidating reputation as a god-slaying sword. Yet, when tested in battle against Ares, it was destroyed in an instant, reduced to nothing without leaving so much as a scratch on its opponent. In truth, the weapon wielded by the Wonder Woman of this world was simply an enchanted sword made of Amazonian metal, nowhere near the legendary God Killer of the comics.

That matter, however, was of little consequence now. After cataloging his gains and giving Wanda one of the pure Nth Metal bracelets, Shin began using his enhanced senses to scan the entire Earth.

One thing became clear to him very quickly: there was a significant difference between the comic book version of Superman and the movie version. By this point, Shin's own super vision and super hearing easily spanned the whole globe. The Superman of the movies would never be capable of such a feat. Moreover, the movie Superman's speed, strength, and range of abilities were all far beneath Shin's own. There was simply no comparison.

"So, there's at least one advantage to visiting the main DC universe," Shin thought. "Here, in this weaker parallel movie universe, I can move completely unrestrained."

With that in mind, he took Scarlet Witch's hand, and together they made their way to the Hall of Justice.

Thanks to the time distortions caused by the Flash's final reset of the world, when Shin checked the clock upon arrival, he realized that he and Wanda had been away for over three months. The Justice League had grown considerably in that time, new members included Shazam and his Shazam family, Vibe and Killer Frost brought by the Flash, and Black Canary brought by Green Arrow. Many of them seemed to operate in family-like groups. The only notable absence was Batman's younger allies; the version of Batman here was older, so neither Robin nor Batgirl accompanied him.

"It's only been three months, and this place already feels so much livelier," Shin remarked as they entered. At that moment, they spotted Quicksilver at the Justice League bar.

"Hey, sis, you're finally back," Quicksilver said, appearing beside Wanda in a flash of silver light. "How was life in that other world? Was it as bustling as they say?"

"It was even busier than here or our own world," Wanda replied with a small smirk. Something in her tone hinted at mixed feelings.

"Maybe next time," she added, "I'll send you to that world for some training. It might help you grow stronger, little brother."

Quicksilver instinctively shivered. He didn't know exactly what Wanda and Shin had gone through in that other world, but he could tell it hadn't all been pleasant. He quickly shook his head. "No thanks. I think I'm fine right here."

Shin's expression shifted to a more thoughtful one as he asked, "Has the Grid situation been resolved?"

"You mean that artificial intelligence?" Quicksilver nodded. "Yeah, we handled it two months ago. The only problem is that Brainiac suddenly betrayed us and escaped."

"Luthor's Brainiac?" Shin replied knowingly. "That one's never up to anything good. So, there's still an AI on the loose?"

"No, not exactly. Brainiac created a physical body for himself and managed to escape into space," Quicksilver clarified.

"I see," Shin said, piecing together the events. "Sounds like you've been through a fair bit lately."

Quicksilver let out a humorless chuckle. "You could say that. Batman used his cyber-virus to cut the AIs off from the internet. We destroyed all their physical carriers, but Brainiac slipped away."

Shin didn't push for more details. Unlike the comic universe, the movie world didn't have world-shattering crises every other week. It would likely be at least a year or two before the next major threat emerged.

The two of them didn't remain alone for long. Curious glances from other League members quickly turned into greetings, and soon several younger members of the Shazam family had gathered around.

"You're the ones who came here with the Ancient One, right? Travelers from another parallel world?" one of them asked.

"That's right," Shin confirmed. "It sounds like the Ancient One has a good relationship with all of you."

In the Flashpoint world, there had been a Shazam as well, though in that case, it was a single hero formed by the fusion of six family members. Their personalities and appearances hadn't been drastically altered there, so Shin recognized them easily.

"Yeah," a round-faced boy admitted sheepishly. "Master Ancient One even tried to teach us meditation… but we weren't very good at it."

It seemed the Ancient One had been interested in the unique magical potential of Shazam, perhaps hoping to mentor them despite their inexperience.

After spending some time socializing, Shin and Wanda left the Hall of Justice to look for a place to stay.

Money was no concern. Shin had brought a sizable amount of gold before entering this world, and with his powers, he could always compress coal into diamonds or, if necessary, use the Mother Box to rearrange molecules and create flawless counterfeit currency.

Having traveled between two worlds back-to-back and helped avert catastrophic crises in both, Shin found himself in need of a break. The tasks themselves hadn't been particularly difficult for him, but the constant activity had been mentally draining. He decided to remain in this world for a while, taking advantage of the relative peace.

With resources at hand and no urgent matters to attend to, Shin finally allowed himself a proper vacation. For several months, he relaxed. His days alternated between light training sessions, leisurely travel, and simply enjoying the world's scenery.

More often than not, however, he found himself serving as Scarlet Witch's unofficial porter on shopping trips. To him, the so-called "luxury goods" she sought were trivial, he could replicate them in moments using the Mother Box, which had scanned and stored the sum total of Earth's technological data. But Wanda wasn't looking for shortcuts. She liked the atmosphere of strolling down the streets, browsing stores, and choosing items in person.

After all, despite her immense magical power, she was still a young woman barely past twenty. And what young woman doesn't enjoy a bit of shopping?
