As they walked, they saw a group of people gathered.
"What could be going on?" Evena murmured.
They got closer and a man stopped them.
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" he asked, his face looked stern.
"This is a public area and we have every right to be here" Evena replied cooly.
"You might not be aware but this is currently a crime scene" the man told them.
"Crime scene? What happened?" Rafaele asked curiously.
"A pack of rogue werewolves attacked some werewolves and burnt them alive" the man explained
Rina felt a sense of foreboding. She broke away from the group and ran towards the scene.
"Rita wait!" Rafaele ran after her along with the rest of the group.
Rita got there and pushed to the front, ignoring the protests.
And there it was, her biggest fear. A charred body with blonde hair and a gold necklace with the 'R' symbol.
She touched her own necklace. And then the sharp pain engulfed her.
She screamed as the pain engulfed her. Her twin was dead, the other part of her soul was gone.
Rafaele was there beside her, he hugged her close to him.
"I am so sorry Rita" he kept saying.
'I am not Rita, I am Rina' she screamed inwardly.
"what's going on?" she heard the onlookers ask.
Evena explained to the man who had stopped them what was going on.
"oh! I am sorry for your loss". The man could only say.
"Rafaele we need to take the body home" Evena told Rafaele.
"Rita, I will leave you with father while I sort out some things with Evena. Please be strong for him" Rafaele told Rina.
Rina nodded, still in shock.
Rafaele handed Rina over to her father. The poor man was in shock as well. The two huddled together holding hands.
After a while Rafaele Jax and Evena came back.
"We have gotten permission to take her home. Evena will take Jax and her home first and he will come back for us" Rafaele explained gently to Rina.
She nodded. The body had already been put in a body bag.
Rafaele and Evena carried the body and then they disappeared from sight.
Some minutes later, Evena came back and took them back.
Rina's mother was sobbing and rolling on the floor. They tried to console her but it was to no avail.
Rafaele led Rina to the room.
He sat her on the bed and crouched in front of her.
"I don't know what to say to you to console you. It is said that twins share a soul and I know you are very hurt but I want you to know that I am here for you, we all are" he told her as he patted her hand comfortingly.
Rina looked at him in confusion. Didn't he feel the mate bond between he and Rita. Why wasn't he sad?
Just how bad did the relationship between he and Rita go sour that he didn't feel his mate was dead?
"Rita, please talk to me" he urged her.
"I will be fine, but I need to be alone". She told him.
"are you sure? I don't think you should be alone right now"
"I will be fine, I won't do anything stupid. I am all my parents have right now, I won't do anything to hurt them" she assured him.
He sighed and stood up. "Okay, I will be down stairs, if you need anything, don't hesitate to let me know, okay?"
"okay" she replied.
He leaned down and kissed her forehead before leaving the room.
Rina stood up, she went to the mirror and stared at her reflection.
All she could see was Rita's reflection.
She was trapped! She could never go back to her life as Rina.
This was supposed to be just for two days and now somehow here she was.
She could never go back to her pack or to her job.
She wasn't even a member of this pack. The only reason why she could pass through the pack barriers was because she was identical to her sister.
Rina felt her heart pounding, she had dreams for her future, she couldn't spend the rest of her life as Rafaele's mate.
Rina paced around the room anxiously. What was she going to do? Confess to everyone? How would her poor parents take it?
How would Rafaele take it?
There was a knock on the door and it opened. It was Luna Rosa.
"Dear, your mother wants to see you" she said softly.
Rina nodded.
Luna Rosa put her arm around her.
"everything will be fine" she told Rina.
Rina nodded again.
Luna Rosa led her out of the room downstairs.
The room was filled with the pack members who had come to pay their condolences.
Rina sat with her parents and Rafaele as pack member after pack member paid their condolences.
Rafaele leaned closer to whisper.
"Evena is taking Jax and Rina back to your pack. When he comes back, he will take you, mother and father. Once we are all done here, we will come there. Will you be okay?"
Rina nodded.
"please answer me, I want to hear you talk" Rafaele pleaded.
"ok" she answered.
He kissed her forehead, before standing up.
"Princess, we should get going" her father whispered to her.
Rina nodded as she stood up.
She held her father's hand and closed her eyes as she felt everything disappear.
When she opened her eyes, they were back in the pack.
The pack members were already at the house waiting to offer their condolences.
She saw the Alpha, the neighbors, her colleagues at work all there to pay their condolences.
She badly wanted to shout that she wasn't dead, but she couldn't so she kept quiet.
Her boss at the royal werewolf library approached them.
"My condolences, this is a great loss to us. Rina was the best employee, always willing to work. I had no idea she went on a private research trip, it's really baffling why she choose to do this". He said while shaking her head.
Rina was also confused, Rita was supposed to be with Adrian. How had she ended up close to the ruins?
