Xu Jing and Li Weigang felt a chill as they looked at the seven blood-red pupils in the darkness. Although they knew it was a projection in the room, it felt incredibly real—as if their entire past and future lives had been penetrated.
"What is that thing?" asked Li Weigang.
"For now, we do not know, but what we saw at the end of time was this entity. Perhaps it is a deity without a number," said Douglas.
"The end of time... As is well-known, time isn't a phenomenon that actually exists. It is an interpretation assigned to the flow of events, as we experience them," Xu Jing said, her understanding of time influenced by the Foundation.
"Exactly, time is an interpretation we assign to the experience of the flow of events. The key is 'we,'" Douglas said.
Xu Jing detected the pause in Douglas's voice; a certain notion was being overturned.
