The next day, at 10 a.m.
Chen Ke and Shen Yun stood beneath the entrance arch of Shenshi Town's First and Greatest Street, watching the endless stream of pedestrians coming and going on the street. Chen Ke felt a sense of helplessness.
To find a person in such a large commercial district was no easy task.
At the street corner, a supermarket named Don Quixote had already opened; its assorted merchandise spilled from the store's threshold to the outside. Servers distributing flyers and toilet paper stood in front of small eateries selling sushi and takoyaki. Being in Shinjuku, and indeed Asia's largest red-light district, it attracted people from all corners of the world.
Chen Ke had left the hotel the previous evening and casually found a hostel to spend the night. Shen Yun had gone back to her own place. Although she had suggested Chen Ke stay at her place, he had firmly refused.
