Chapter 124
Benjamin
Something is wrong with Alexis'. Losing patience after he sneaks a look at me, for the hundredth time, instead of eating.
I place my phone down.
"Okay, what is it?" I ask.
"What?!" He looks startled, how cute—not that that'll save him now.
"You've been looking at me weird, all week. What's going on?" I press.
He's quiet. Too quiet. Alexis is never good at lying—his whole face is an open book—but right now, he's clamming up like a guilty man.
"Alexis," I say, leaning forward, my elbows on the table. "You know me. You know I notice everything. So don't bother pretending nothing's wrong."
He fidgets with his spoon, eyes darting anywhere but at me. "I-it's nothing. Just… I was thinking about something."
"Thinking," I echo. "About me?"
His ears turn pink. Got him.
"What kind of 'thinking' makes you stare at me like I've grown a second head?" I push, half teasing, half genuinely curious.
He bites his lip, hesitates, then blurts, "I… saw you."
