Chapter 118
Daelan
"Okay, buddy, we try again today," I mutter, more to myself than anyone else, as I step into the pod.
The glass curves shut, sealing me in. My elemental spirit slips in behind me—silent, formless at first—before the interior plunges into total black.
The sensation hits immediately.
I breathe in the dark and let it climb into me.
It's not the ordinary dark you get when the lights go out. This is worse. Heavy. Swallowing. The kind that presses in on all sides until even breathing feels like an intrusion.
I open my eyes—pointless, considering there's nothing to see—and let my mind settle into the black.
My bloodline ability is something I was born with—an inheritance I never asked for but can't escape. It's innate, instinctive, always lurking under my skin. I don't need to train it to make it stronger; I train to keep it from swallowing me whole. To stop it from replacing me with… whatever it really is.
