Sha Lifei was full of complaints, with quite a temper.
He came to find the "Corpse Forest" and finally got a clue: in that ruined temple, the old monks who built the statue of the Womb of the Earth Bodhisattva.
These old monks devoted themselves to ascetic practices all day, having long looked beyond life and death, seemingly losing all interest in worldly matters.
Living on basic tea and rice every day, just maintaining the bare minimum for survival.
How to die? When to die?
They no longer care.
But they wouldn't commit suicide, violating the Sect's rules.
These monks obviously knew some secrets of the "Corpse Forest," but neither soft nor hard tactics could make them talk.
So Sha Lifei came up with a plan.
He spent his days with these old monks.
Whatever the monks ate, Sha Lifei ate as well.
When the monks meditated, Sha Lifei followed suit.
However, most of the time, he would fall asleep not long after. Because of this, he discovered something strange.
