Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: A New Home at the End of the World (Draft 3)

"I guess I finally have a good reason to figure out how the fuck to build a spaceship."

The words sounded ridiculous even as they left my mouth, although not because building a spaceship was impossible. At this point, impossible had become a word I was increasingly unwilling to use. I had a Gamer System, forty simultaneous thought processes if I counted the primary one currently standing in the middle of a crater, Gravity Magic, Air Magic, Rune Magic, enough magical resources to bankrupt several civilizations, several magical airships sitting somewhere in my Expanded Inventory, and nearly a thousand years before Harry Potter was supposed to walk through the doors of Hogwarts.

Less than a year ago, from my perspective, I had been trying to figure out how to convert a cave into a shitty magical Minecraft hovel. Now I was planning interstellar travel because I had accidentally stranded my daughter on a planet so distant that the System couldn't even tell me whether it was in the same galaxy.

My life had gotten weird.

One of my Parallel Minds interrupted that thought by depositing a glowing note directly into the main hall of my Mind Palace.

You have still not reviewed the complete racial recalculation.

I blinked. "Right."

A second mind immediately added another note reminding me that I still possessed 41,920 unspent Attribute Points, while a third started listing unopened rewards, including five Legendary Lottery Tickets, the World Challenge Completion Chest, the obscene number of conquest chests I had received from Vask, and the God-Ranked Ley Line Seed I had specifically told myself I would inspect once I returned home.

"Okay, okay, I fucking get it."

The notes vanished, although I could practically feel several of my own minds judging me. Apparently possessing thirty-nine independent versions of myself capable of remembering every important thing I forgot was going to become increasingly useful.

"System."

Notice: Listening.

"I want my complete Status."

A familiar golden screen appeared.

"Not the condensed one," I clarified. "I mean everything. Race information, stats, Skills, Bloodline Skills, Perks, Titles, Auras, magic, knowledge, contracts, quests, major Items, unopened rewards, summoning authority, Soul Space, all of it. If you have hidden menus inside hidden menus, open those too."

The System complied so enthusiastically that the golden window expanded upward until I lost sight of its top somewhere in the remaining black clouds. One of my Parallel Minds immediately estimated that the complete page would be several hundred feet tall if displayed at the normal font size.

"Okay, that's fucking stupid. Organize it into sections."

The giant interface split apart into dozens of smaller windows that spread through the air around me in a wide semicircle. Each section could apparently expand further if I focused on it.

"Much better."

I selected the first.

COMPLETE STATUS — VALENTINE SILVER

Name: Valentine Silver

Gender: Female

Race: Primordial Devil Queen of Lust

Classification: Primordial Infernal Soul Entity

Demonic Classification: Devil

Racial Rank: Uncalculated

Level: 1

Advancement Method: Infernal Contracts

Conventional Kill Experience: Disabled

Infernal Advancement: Experience and racial advancement are earned primarily through magically binding Contracts. Contract value is determined by the strength and authority of the contracting parties, obligations exchanged, duration, risk, influence, consequences, and successful fulfillment of agreed terms.

Jobs: Queen, Seamstress

Primary Title: Death's Apostle

Intelligence: 4,680

Strength: 63

Constitution: 60

Charisma: 120

Dexterity: 78

Luck: 567

Unspent Attribute Points: 41,920

Parallel Minds: Level 39/?

Independent Parallel Thought Processes: 39

Health: Primordial Immortality

Your former Lich phylactery has been replaced by a Primordial Soul Core. Your continued existence is reinforced through your Primordial Bloodlines, physical body, Soul Space, Devil Queen's Dominion, and Primordial Soul Core. Destruction of your physical body alone is insufficient to permanently kill you.

Internal Mana: Extreme

Your accumulated magical reserves were retained during racial reconstruction. Your internal magical capacity substantially exceeds the practical requirements of ordinary spellcasting and large-scale summoning.

Ley Line Sorcery: External Magical Access

Ley Lines are physical and immovable concentrations of naturally flowing magic. As a Ley Line Sorceress, you may directly harness the power of an accessible Ley Line instead of storing that power inside your body. A Class 5 Ley Line supplies an effectively inexhaustible external source for ordinary spellcasting, rituals, enchantments, and wards while you maintain sufficient magical access to it.

Claimed Ley Lines: 1 Class 5 Ley Line.

Current Active Infernal Contracts: 1.

Contracted Party: Zaric — A-Ranked Infernal Overseer; Regent and Steward of Valentine's Dominion.

I studied the Status for several seconds before focusing on the Uncalculated Rank.

"Still?"

Notice: A standardized rank cannot currently be assigned. Your species did not previously exist, and several of your racial systems exceed or bypass conventional ranking metrics.

"That's fair."

The Attribute Points were more tempting.

Forty-one thousand nine hundred and twenty of them.

I could probably put several thousand into Strength and discover what happened when I punched a mountain. Forty thousand Luck was even more tempting, mostly because part of me desperately wanted to know whether reality would simply start handing me whatever I wanted.

One of my Parallel Minds immediately simulated the stupidity of spending tens of thousands of points before understanding how my new racial advancement interacted with attributes, Contracts, and physical limits.

I sighed. "Fine. We're saving them."

A smug checkmark appeared inside my Mind Palace.

"Don't get cocky. You're me."

I opened the racial information section.

RACIAL INFORMATION

Primordial Devil Queen of Lust

A unique Primordial Infernal species created through the irreversible merger and evolution of Valentine Silver's Half-Succubus Witch body, full Succubus bloodline, Succubus Lich Queen body, Primordial Nundu bloodline, magical lineage, and acquired infernal characteristics.

Primordial Devil Queens are not standard Succubi, Liches, Devils, Witches, or magical beasts. Your reconstructed body and soul support multiple normally incompatible biological, infernal, magical, necromantic, and Primordial systems.

Primary Racial Characteristics:

Primordial Infernal Authority — Lesser demonic and infernal entities instinctively recognize your superior infernal nature and relative rank. Recognition does not automatically compel obedience from independent entities not bound by summoning, loyalty, Dominion, or Contract.

Contract Authority — You may construct magically enforced Infernal Contracts. The possible scope of a Contract is determined primarily by the authority and power of participating parties and the obligations they willingly accept.

Primordial Regeneration — Physical damage is repaired at extreme speed through your Primordial biology and Soul Core. Compatible toxins and environmental energies can further accelerate regeneration.

Primordial Poison Adaptation — Toxins and poisons encountered by your Primordial Nundu bloodline may be analyzed, absorbed, and incorporated into your biology, eventually rendering previously encountered toxins ineffective against you.

Infernal Longevity — Biological aging is functionally irrelevant unless deliberately permitted or caused by an authority capable of overriding your Primordial nature.

Soul-Core Immortality — Your existence is no longer dependent upon a conventional phylactery.

Bloodline Dominance — Compatible lesser bloodlines may be inherited, absorbed, or incorporated with greatly reduced risk of destabilizing your primary racial structure.

Descendant Inheritance — Biological descendants possess the potential to inherit portions of your Devil characteristics, magical bloodlines, Succubus traits, Primordial Nundu transformation, and other inheritable racial characteristics.

Lindsey flashed through my mind.

The ache in my chest returned immediately, but there was no uncontrollable surge of power this time. She was alive. Zaric was with her, the Contract was active, and I had already returned enough supplies to prevent the Dominion from collapsing while I figured out how to reach them.

"She's going to be terrifying when she grows up."

A Parallel Mind helpfully reminded me that Lindsey was already classified as a Half-Devil at six months old, before my bloodline evolved into whatever ridiculous thing I was now.

"Yeah. Poor Zaric."

The Bloodline Skill page was next.

BLOODLINE AND UNIQUE SKILLS

Devil Queen's Dominion

Thralls, biological descendants, sworn servants, contracted servants, summons, undead, and claimed souls may be marked as belonging to your Dominion. Marked beings receive increased resistance against hostile mental, spiritual, and magical control. You may sense their general condition and approximate location unless blocked by sufficient distance, specialized interference, or an authority capable of opposing your Dominion.

Soul Weaver

Souls may be manipulated as though they were physical and magical material. You may repair, separate, merge, reshape, sew, bind, extract, implant, divide, reinforce, unravel, or weave souls into bodies, objects, magical constructs, undead, or other compatible vessels.

Primordial Nundu Regeneration

Your body continuously attempts to restore itself to its preferred healthy condition. Regeneration is exceptionally resistant to permanent suppression and may be accelerated by compatible poisons, toxins, or magical energies.

Primordial Poison Adaptation

Poisons and toxins absorbed by your body may be analyzed and permanently incorporated into your Nundu bloodline. Successfully integrated substances may later be reproduced through compatible magical or biological mechanisms.

"That's still horrifying."

One of my Parallel Minds immediately created a folder titled Interesting Poisons To Eat.

"Also useful."

Runesight

You may perceive hidden runes, inscriptions, ward structures, magical flows, concealed enchantments, and many forms of magical writing normally invisible without specialized detection methods.

General Rune Mastery

You possess an innate understanding of runic construction and can rapidly learn, analyze, modify, combine, translate, or create rune languages, rune clusters, matrices, and integrated runic systems.

Binding and Protection Runes

Specialized mastery of runes designed for barriers, wards, prisons, protection, identification, containment, exclusion, and magical boundaries.

Utility Runes

Extensive knowledge of noncombat runes used for illumination, cleaning, movement, storage, communication, manipulation, construction, industrial applications, household functions, and other practical purposes.

Energy Drain and Vitality Transference

You may drain magical energy or vitality from compatible targets and transfer or absorb the harvested energy.

Natural Charm

Your Succubus bloodline naturally increases physical and supernatural attraction toward you. Passive effects may be suppressed.

Body Sculptor

You may magically modify compatible biological structures. Energy expenditure and complexity scale with the magnitude and permanence of alterations.

Shapeshifting

You may alter compatible portions of your body through Succubus and Primordial shapeshifting. Your current racial structure permits significantly more extensive changes than your original Half-Succubus body.

Infernal Command

You may summon demons, undead, fiends, infernal creatures, demonic constructs, necromantic entities, and other compatible beings to serve you. Available templates and maximum quality are determined by your racial authority, knowledge, magical development, previous summon access, Contracts, Titles, and custom creations.

Notice: Infernal Command has undergone major expansion following Primordial evolution.

That deserved attention later.

Siren's Song

Your voice may carry supernatural enthralling influence through song. Susceptible targets may experience impaired concentration, attraction toward the source, and reduced resistance.

Euphoric Drain

Compatible pleasure and emotional or physical stimulation may be converted into vitality and magical energy. Energy gained increases with genuine intensity and satisfaction.

Puppet of Lust

Targets whose resistance has been sufficiently overwhelmed may, under appropriate conditions, be transformed into Thralls under your authority. Thralls created through this ability possess severely diminished independent will and function primarily as extensions of your commands.

I paused when Vera came to mind.

The ability read differently now.

As a Lich Queen, its implications had been little more than another useful mechanic. Now I understood exactly what I had done to Vera and the five other women. I wasn't suddenly going to reverse everything or pretend that I had become some shining beacon of morality, but I could at least recognize that reducing someone to an obedient extension of myself was a far more significant action than my previous emotionless brain had treated it.

I moved on.

Line Continuation

Your reproductive magic possesses a substantially increased success rate whenever reproduction is intentionally desired. Compatible offspring have an increased chance of inheriting bloodline traits.

"That one goes in the mental folder labeled 'Be Fucking Careful.'"

The System did not comment.

The Magic page was next.

MAGICAL BLOODLINES AND AFFINITIES

Phantom Fire — Bloodline Family Magic

A supernatural fire capable of interacting with living beings, souls, magic, and structures according to the caster's targeting intent. Phantom Fire may distinguish between designated hostile and protected targets when sufficiently controlled.

Hellfire — Bloodline Family Magic

Infernal flame capable of destruction, magical purification, spiritual damage, cleansing, judgment effects, and attacks against both physical and metaphysical targets.

Necrotic Magic — Bloodline Family Magic

Magic associated with death, decay, life-force disruption, corpse manipulation, undead creation, death-aligned environments, necromantic transformations, and related effects.

Soul Magic — Bloodline Family Magic

Magic capable of interacting directly with souls, soul structures, identity, possession, spiritual bonds, soul signatures, metaphysical wounds, and afterlife transitions.

Summoning Magic — Bloodline Family Magic

Magic capable of establishing pathways between the caster and compatible entities, prepared locations, constructed summoning systems, or magically linked targets.

Infernal Magic — Bloodline Family Magic

Magic associated with Devils, demons, Contracts, summoning, infernal construction, curses, bindings, infernal flame, authority, and demonic magical systems.

Lightning Magic — Bloodline Family Magic

Ice Magic — Bloodline Family Magic

Gravity Magic — Bloodline Family Magic

Elemental Magic — Bloodline Family Magic

Known Elemental Branches: Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Shadow.

Rune Magic — Bloodline Family Magic

Ley Line Sorcery — Bloodline Family Magic

Ley Lines are naturally occurring, physically fixed channels where latent magic within the world becomes concentrated and stable. Ordinary witches, wizards, and magical creatures primarily exploit Ley Lines indirectly through wards, ritual sites, enchanted structures, and locations of naturally high magical density.

A Ley Line Sorceress may directly draw upon accessible Ley Line energy and use it to power spells, enchantments, rituals, wards, and magical constructs without first storing that energy in an internal magical core.

Higher-Class Ley Lines contain drastically greater flows of accessible magic. A Class 5 Ley Line may be treated as effectively inexhaustible for most conventional magical applications, although the Ley Line itself remains fixed in its physical location.

The Skills and Knowledge page followed.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Mind Palace — Perfect

A stable internal mental environment used for memory storage, organization, research, protected thought spaces, simulations, and coordination between Parallel Minds.

Parallel Minds — Level 39/?

Thirty-nine simultaneous independent thought processes may operate without developing into separate personalities. Each remains a component of Valentine Silver's consciousness.

Instant Recall

Stored memories may be retrieved with near-perfect accuracy.

Speed Reading

Written information may be processed and retained at dramatically increased speed.

Magic Sight

You may directly perceive magic, active enchantments, magical flows, magical creatures, spell structures, and many concealed supernatural effects.

Ley Line Sorceress

You may directly channel power from accessible Ley Lines rather than using them solely as passive magical infrastructure.

Whip Mastery

Advanced weapon proficiency with whips and related flexible weapons.

Sewing — Intermediate

Practical skill in sewing, tailoring, garment construction, repair, and related fabric work.

Royal Knowledge

Royal Etiquette — Advanced knowledge of court behavior, formal authority, diplomacy protocols, and royal presentation.

Diplomacy — Advanced understanding of negotiation between rulers, governments, organizations, and political factions.

Shadow Governance — Knowledge concerning intelligence networks, covert operations, spies, assassins, secret enforcement, and indirect political control.

Unseen Dominion — Knowledge concerning underground organizations, hidden societies, clandestine influence networks, and indirect control of populations.

Cultural Patronage — Knowledge concerning education, art, traditions, public institutions, and methods of strengthening social cohesion.

Inheritance Law — Knowledge concerning succession, royal claims, bloodline legitimacy, heirs, and inheritance structures.

Necromantic Knowledge

Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge concerning corpse animation, undead creation, death curses, life-force manipulation, spirit binding, necromantic rituals, soul anchoring, plague magic, construction of undead species, and phylactery creation.

The Perk section was large but considerably easier to digest.

PERKS

Genius Mind — Enhanced intelligence, comprehension, deduction, creativity, and capacity for complex thought.

Magic Prodigy — Magical disciplines are learned significantly faster and magical development receives major bonuses.

Luck of the Draw — Permanent improvement to Luck and favorable chance-based outcomes.

Fetish Appeaser — Succubus shapeshifting may adapt your body toward a partner's desired physical preferences.

Expanded Inventory — Provides enormous personal System storage capacity. Subsequent high-rank storage rewards and spatial Items have further expanded practical storage capability.

Weapon Familiarity — Grants immediate foundational proficiency when handling unfamiliar weapons.

Mind Palace — Provided the original foundation for your internal mental architecture.

Observer — Challenge Perk responsible for your arrival approximately one thousand and nine years before Harry Potter's first year at Hogwarts and associated temporal restrictions.

Star Gazer — Challenge Perk. Once formally activated, you will have one year to become the first magical being to physically step upon Earth's Moon.

Balanced Focus — Enhanced physical stability, balance, body control, and resistance to being knocked off balance.

Runic Quickfire — Allows four preset rune sequences to be manifested and activated almost instantly.

Current Runic Quickfire Presets: 0/4.

I stared at that line.

"Are you fucking serious? I still haven't set those?"

One of my Parallel Minds replayed the memory of the System reminding me months ago.

"Yeah, yeah. Add it to the list."

Occult Mastery — Improves learning, analysis, and practical use of dark, forbidden, infernal, necromantic, and occult magical systems.

Predator's Instinct — Enhances danger sense, hunting awareness, tactical intuition, recognition of weaknesses, and instinctive combat judgment.

Hellfire Fist — Allows physical strikes to be infused with Hellfire.

Nundu's Crushing Blow — Allows physical attacks to carry greatly increased impact and produce destructive shockwaves.

Enduring Will — Improves resistance against mental exhaustion, physical fatigue, pain, and prolonged exertion.

Eternal Spirit — Dramatically reduces the effects of hunger, thirst, exhaustion, and harsh environmental conditions.

Enchanting Aura — Increases the strength and flexibility of supernatural social influence.

Predatory Charm — Grants +100 effective Charisma during situations involving danger, intimidation, dominance, predation, or similar pressure.

Sensual Illusion — Improves fine physical presentation and real-time appearance manipulation through Succubus magic.

Demonic Evasion — Enhances reflexes, evasive movement, and magical avoidance.

Predator's Luck — Improves your chances of avoiding traps, ambushes, environmental hazards, and seemingly unavoidable danger.

Fiendish Fortune — Greatly increases the chance of discovering rare resources, valuable opportunities, powerful allies, useful coincidences, or exceptional locations while operating in dangerous environments.

"That last one better be doing some heavy lifting when I go looking for a home."

The Titles page appeared next.

TITLES

Ogre Killer — +10% damage against Ogres.

Guardian of the Ley Line — You have claimed custodial authority over a Class 5 Ley Line. The Ley Line recognizes your magical access, will not harm you through ordinary uncontrolled exposure, and may be directly harnessed through Ley Line Sorcery. Guardian authority does not make the Ley Line mobile or attach it to your soul.

Huntress — Once prey is sufficiently identified, you possess greatly improved ability to track and relocate it.

Reaper — Your extensive killing experience has generated and strengthened Bloodlust Aura.

Hellfire Sorceress: One With Fire — Enhanced understanding, affinity, and authority over Hellfire and lesser flames.

Phantom Fire Sorceress — Enhanced authority and control over Phantom Fire.

Queen of the Damned — Grants enhanced necromantic authority over undead and death-aligned beings.

Master Artificer — Magical constructs designed or created by you have a 20% increased chance of successful completion. Your ability to diagnose magical, structural, and design flaws in artifacts is significantly improved.

Kingdom Ender — Magic directed against Kingdom-scale barriers, national wards, territorial defenses, and interconnected governmental magical networks is 100% more effective.

Capital Eraser — Area-of-effect magic directed against cities, fortresses, and other large settlements is 50% more powerful.

Genocide — You can instinctively recognize whether an identified target is the final surviving member of a known species or bloodline. Damage against such targets is increased by 500%.

Death's Apostle — Death recognizes your authority over souls you personally slay or lawfully claim. Claimed souls cannot enter an afterlife unless you release them. You may question, command, reshape, bind, consume, reward, punish, repurpose, or release souls under your authority.

ACHIEVEMENTS

One-Woman Siege — You destroyed a defended capital without directly deploying an army. Reward previously granted: 1 SS-Ranked Mobile Siege Platform and 20 S-Ranked Siege Golems.

"Genocide is still such a fucked-up Title."

No disagreement came from the System.

The Aura section was more immediately useful after what had happened yesterday.

AURAS

Notice: Several overlapping Aura systems have become mutually compatible following Primordial evolution.

Composite Aura Generated: Primordial Queen's Presence.

Primordial Queen's Presence combines and controls your previous Bloodlust, Toxic Aura, Deathly Aura, Presence of a Queen, Seductive Aura, Natural Charm amplification, and Primordial Infernal Presence.

Individual aspects may be activated, suppressed, layered, restricted to selected targets, or assigned independent effective ranges.

Bloodlust Aspect — Projects accumulated killing intent and predatory pressure.

Toxic Aspect — Controls the passive environmental influence of your Primordial Nundu biology.

Deathly Aspect — Projects Necrotic influence capable of weakening living beings and damaging life energy.

Royal Aspect — Projects supernatural authority, confidence, intimidation, and command.

Seductive Aspect — Projects lust-aligned supernatural attraction.

Infernal Aspect — Reveals or suppresses your demonic nature and relative infernal authority.

Current Default Setting: Full Suppression.

I pointed at that immediately. "Keep it there unless I intentionally change it. I don't want to accidentally kill, poison, terrify, seduce, dominate, or spiritually traumatize everyone who walks into the same room as me."

One of my minds added a particularly important note about children.

"Yes. Especially children."

That alone made the full Status review worthwhile.

Then came Soul Space.

SOUL SPACE

Classification: Personal Soul Dimension

Primary Authority: Valentine Silver — Death's Apostle

Original Vask Event Souls: 21,998,873.

Additional Claimed Souls: Automatically catalogued.

Organization Categories: Sapience, species, magical rank, knowledge, condition, compatibility, usefulness, soul structure, and ownership status.

Soul Weaver Operations Available: Inspection, questioning, memory access, memory extraction, emotional separation, personality separation, magical affinity extraction, instinct extraction, soul repair, soul division, soul fusion, soul reinforcement, binding, release, reincorporation, conversion, weaving, and vessel implantation.

"Personality separation?"

Several Parallel Minds immediately focused.

"Expand that."

Personality Separation

Soul Weaver allows sufficiently skilled users to isolate identity-bearing structures within a soul. Memories, personality patterns, learned behaviors, emotional imprints, magical affinities, instincts, self-recognition, and raw soul substrate may be separated with sufficient precision.

"So if I took a soul and stripped out the memories, personality, emotional history, learned behavior, and everything that made it who it was, what would be left?"

Notice: Primarily raw soul substrate, instinctive fragments not deliberately removed, and whatever metaphysical structures you choose to preserve.

"Would it still be the same person?"

Notice: Complete removal of identity, memory, personality continuity, emotional continuity, and self-recognition would terminate meaningful continuity with the previous identity unless those structures were later restored.

I folded my arms. "So I'd basically be dismantling the person and reusing the soul material."

Notice: That interpretation is substantially accurate.

"Can the removed memories and personality structures be stored separately?"

Notice: Yes.

Interesting.

One Parallel Mind immediately wondered whether the memories could be retained in Soul Space as research archives even if the personality itself was dismantled. Another was more interested in magical affinities. A third didn't care about either because it had already realized what raw soul substrate meant.

We could build a new soul.

I went still.

More ideas followed almost immediately. Purpose-built miners could possess an instinctive understanding of geology without requiring a preexisting person's memories. Builders could be created with structural instincts. Deep-sea undead could have souls designed around pressure resistance and navigation. Researchers could be created without biological exhaustion, and the minds currently working on my future spaceship began enthusiastically listing the advantages of undead maintenance crews that didn't require oxygen, couldn't suffer decompression sickness, and might not give a shit about radiation.

"Okay, holy shit."

I looked toward the System.

"Can I actually create my own undead instead of relying on whatever templates Infernal Command gives me?"

Notice: Yes.

Compatibility detected: Soul Weaver + Soul Magic + Necromancy + Infernal Command + Master Artificer + Primordial Infernal Authority.

Custom Undead Forging is available.

You may design undead using physical materials, magical materials, complete souls, processed soul substrate, artificial soul frameworks, runes, Necrotic Magic, Infernal Magic, Summoning Magic, and compatible magical affinities.

Stable original creations may be saved as personal summoning templates if all necessary metaphysical and physical structures are successfully replicated.

Creating new sapient souls or stable self-aware undead species requires substantially greater precision than creating non-sapient or narrowly intelligent servant constructs.

Potential Achievements and Titles are available for sufficiently original soul and undead creations.

"What Titles?"

Notice: Achievement rewards are not revealed before qualifying conditions are completed.

"Bastard."

One of my minds created a new research wing labeled SOUL FORGING, another added CUSTOM UNDEAD, and the spaceflight group immediately appended VACUUM-CAPABLE UNDEAD WORKFORCE underneath its growing list of projects.

I couldn't resist testing the concept.

"Open Soul Space."

A doorway appeared inside my Mind Palace, although physically nothing changed around me. My awareness entered the enormous silver-floored dimension where millions upon millions of souls remained arranged according to the categories the System had created.

I deliberately selected a low-ranked non-sapient magical beast soul rather than a person.

It appeared before my mental projection as a dim bluish animal-shaped spirit.

The soul came apart under my hands as I activated the Soul Weaver Skill.

Not violently.

The threads simply separated.

Instinct sat in one bundle. Memories in another. Fear responses, hunger, territorial behavior, magical affinity, and the pattern that recognized itself as that particular creature all became separate structures I could feel individually.

It was disturbingly similar to unpicking a complicated garment.

I stored its memories and original identity pattern separately rather than destroying them, then stripped the remaining soul substrate completely clean.

What remained was a soft sphere of featureless blue-white spiritual material.

"Well, that's creepy."

Then I started weaving.

I created a new central identity structure without memories of the previous animal. I gave it enough self-recognition to distinguish itself from its surroundings, but not enough complexity for independent sapient thought. Into that structure I wove obedience toward my Dominion, basic curiosity, spatial awareness, an instinctive interest in structural irregularities, and a simple drive to report unusual things rather than react emotionally to them.

The process took almost twenty minutes even with several Parallel Minds helping.

When I finished, the soul no longer resembled the one I had dismantled.

It was new.

Notice: You have successfully dismantled an existing soul into component structures and used processed soul substrate to construct a stable new soul pattern.

New Skill Branch Discovered: Soul Forging.

Soul Forging — The deliberate construction of new soul structures through Soul Weaver, Soul Magic, processed soul substrate, magical affinities, and designed metaphysical frameworks.

Notice: You have gained the Title: Soul Forger.

Soul Forger — You have crossed the boundary between modifying souls and deliberately constructing them. Soul structures designed by you possess increased stability, and your ability to divide, purify, combine, reinforce, and weave raw soul material has significantly improved.

I stared at the notification.

"That's fucking cool."

A second window appeared.

Notice: Additional Titles may be available for the creation of stable original undead species.

That immediately made several minds start theorizing.

"Later."

I stored the newly forged soul in a separate protected region of Soul Space. I wasn't giving it a body while standing in the ruins of the Black Forest with no laboratory and no idea what I wanted its first body to actually look like.

But I could make new undead.

Not summon someone else's design.

Make them.

That was going to become a problem for everyone eventually.

I returned my attention to the remaining Status sections.

INFERNAL COMMAND AND SUMMONING AUTHORITY

All previously acquired summon templates remain available.

Previous Succubus Lich Queen summoning limitations no longer represent your current authority.

Low and Middle-Ranked Summoning Costs: Functionally negligible relative to current internal mana reserves.

High-Ranked Summoning Costs: Negligible during ordinary use.

Mass SS-Ranked Summoning: Supported.

Your current internal magical reserves are sufficient to summon approximately one hundred ordinary SS-Ranked entities in rapid succession or simultaneously without meaningful exhaustion, assuming compatible templates and no unusual summoning conditions.

SSS-Ranked Summoning: Available only for compatible templates, personally created templates, Contracts, sufficiently developed Infernal relationships, unique rituals, or qualifying entities.

Custom Summoning Templates: Available through Soul Forging, Necromancy, Infernal Command, and successful original undead construction.

"That's more like it."

The final major section contained my possessions.

MAJOR ITEMS AND INVENTORY

Unique Placeable Dominion Item: SS-Ranked Necromancer Fortress & Infernal Agricultural Domain.

Placement Restriction: This Item may be manifested once. Once physically anchored, it cannot be returned to Item form through ordinary means.

Contents include the complete SS-Ranked Necromancer Fortress, spatial expansions, workshops, laboratories, Soul Forge, storage complexes, fixed enchantments, permanent infrastructure, and evolved Infernal Agricultural Domain.

God-Ranked Global Reward: 1 Ley Line Seed.

I stopped.

"Right. I specifically said I was going to look at that when I got home. Expand it."

The window changed.

GOD-RANKED LEY LINE SEED

Type: Planetary Magical Infrastructure Seed

Quantity: 1

Single Use: Yes

Latent magic exists throughout the known universe. However, many planets, moons, and other worlds lack developed Ley Line networks capable of concentrating that diffuse background magic into stable, easily accessible currents.

When planted within a suitable world possessing little or no developed magical infrastructure, the Ley Line Seed will anchor itself into the planetary body and begin gathering naturally occurring latent magic from the surrounding environment.

The Seed does not create magic from nothing.

Instead, it concentrates, stabilizes, circulates, and gradually amplifies the accessibility of naturally present magical energy by growing a network of physical Ley Lines throughout the host world.

Initial growth creates a primary magical root. Over time, secondary and tertiary Ley Lines spread through the world's crust and magical environment. Mature networks may eventually develop Ley Lines ranging from Class 1 through Class 5 depending upon planetary size, ambient magical density, geological compatibility, time, and external magical influence.

As the network matures, magical rituals, wards, enchantments, magical plants, magical creatures, spellcasting traditions, and naturally magical environments become progressively easier to sustain.

Ley Lines may be used indirectly by virtually any compatible magical tradition for wards, enchanted settlements, ritual structures, magical agriculture, and other infrastructure.

Once a Ley Line Seed is planted, magical beings will be able to be born on that planet. Without Ley Lines, magical beings are unable to be born on any planet.

Planting the Seed is irreversible under normal circumstances.

The Ley Line Seed is designed for planetary or world-scale magical development and should not be planted casually.

I read the description twice.

Then I read it a third time.

"Holy shit."

That wasn't a magical battery.

That was magical terraforming.

If I eventually found a planet where magic existed only as an almost useless background haze, I could plant this thing and create the infrastructure necessary for that world to become properly magical.

Not instantly.

The description specifically said the network grew.

But given enough time, the world could develop its own magical ecosystems, ritual sites, ward networks, and eventually even Class 5 Ley Lines.

One Parallel Mind immediately suggested the Moon.

Another pointed out that using my only God-Ranked world-seeding Item on the first dead rock I visited would be spectacularly stupid.

"Yeah. We are not planting that on the Moon just because I think glowing moon runes would look cool."

The disappointed mind went quiet.

I returned to the inventory.

Unopened Primary Rewards:

5 Legendary Lottery Tickets.

1 World Challenge Completion Chest.

1 SSS-Ranked Kingdom Erasure Chest.

4 SS-Ranked Royal Dominion Chests.

18 S-Ranked City Conquest Chests.

96 A-Ranked Regional Destruction Chests.

640 B-Ranked Settlement Chests.

2,400 C-Ranked Resource Chests.

One of my Parallel Minds practically screamed at me.

"We have been fucking busy!"

I continued.

I slowly lowered the screen.

Thirty-nine Parallel Minds immediately exploded into activity.

Three pulled the Royal Airships into isolated mental workspaces for later disassembly and study. Several opened the Royal Library index and searched for astronomy, propulsion, magical metallurgy, atmospheric enchantments, spatial engineering, gravity manipulation, navigation, and high-altitude flight. Others began comparing Mythril, Orichalcum, Soul Silver, Royal Star Gold, and enchanted steel despite the inconvenient fact that we had absolutely no experimental data concerning how any of them behaved in vacuum.

"I've already got fucking aircraft."

The airships weren't spaceships.

Probably.

But they were large magical vehicles designed by an advanced magical civilization to fly without conventional wings, which meant I didn't have to invent every principle from nothing. I possessed functioning examples, design records, more than two hundred thousand books and archives from Vask, Gravity Magic, Air Magic, Rune Magic, Master Artificer, millions of tons of construction material, and enough undead labor to construct a city.

Now I also knew I could manufacture purpose-built undead that wouldn't require oxygen.

"Oh, this is going to be fun."

The complete Status minimized into organized menus.

I left the 41,920 Attribute Points untouched.

Recent events had convinced me that I needed to reduce the number of enormously consequential decisions I made before understanding what I was doing.

My gaze settled on the exposed Class 5 Ley Line.

That qualified as my next problem.

The detonation had torn open enough earth and stone to expose several enormous portions of the intertwined gold-and-silver magical structure beneath the ruins of my cave. Even without Magic Sight, the concentrated magic distorted the air above it. With Magic Sight activated, staring directly at the thing was like looking at a river made from liquid sunlight.

"Yeah, we're not leaving that exposed."

The Class 5 Ley Line had existed here long before I arrived and would continue existing here long after I left. It couldn't be packed into my Inventory, transferred into another cave, or dragged north with me. It was part of the land itself, a physical channel through which an astronomical amount of naturally concentrated magic flowed.

What I could do was make sure no one else found it.

The first time I discovered the Ley Line, it had been buried deeply enough beneath the Black Forest that generations of magical creatures had lived around it without realizing what was under their feet. Now my magical tantrum had effectively ripped the roof off the vault.

I crouched beside the nearest exposed section and rested one hand against its surface.

"You're staying here," I murmured. "But nobody else needs to know you're here."

Thirty-nine Parallel Minds began designing the ward network.

This was not going to be another Slaughter Array. The previous one had done exactly what I designed it to do and had slaughtered anything unfortunate enough to cross the boundary. I had no intention of repeating that mistake.

This system would hide.

The first layer used one of the oldest protective rune languages I knew, a rigid magical script built around concepts of boundary, concealment, exclusion, ownership, and denial. Thousands of symbols sank through the stone around the Class 5 Ley Line until they enclosed the relevant section inside a three-dimensional ward structure that extended far deeper than my original cave.

The second layer used flowing early magical symbols closer to druidic and Celtic traditions. Instead of creating a solid barrier, these influenced paths, probability, and environmental perception. Travelers approaching the area would naturally choose routes that carried them away. Animals would find easier trails elsewhere. Underground creatures would encounter stone that encouraged burrowing in another direction. Nothing was forced into anyone's mind; the terrain simply became extremely good at convincing everything that somewhere else was more convenient.

The third layer used infernal script, although not for a Contract. Purple-gold symbols defined ownership and authorization in absolute terms: the protected structure belonged to Valentine Silver, and nothing without my explicit authorization possessed legitimate access.

The fourth layer was written using several highly compressed runic systems I had learned or developed during my time in the Empire world. Those structures governed magical detection, excavation, divination, resonance tracing, ward analysis, spatial observation, and attempts to follow the surrounding magical network toward its source.

The fifth layer was the most complicated because it used Ley Line Sorcery itself.

I wrapped the magical space around it in a self-sustaining concealment system powered directly by the thing it protected. Magical scans would detect a handful of weak, ordinary currents scattered through the surrounding land. Divination would follow false channels until it reached meaningless locations miles away. Someone attempting to map the forest's Ley Lines would see nothing above Class 1 within the protected region.

Physical searching wouldn't work either.

Spatial redirection wards subtly altered paths through the earth. Anyone digging toward the actual Ley Line would miss it without realizing they had changed direction. Magical drilling would curve around the protected section. Teleportation attempting to target the hidden area would arrive elsewhere. Tunnels would deviate. Burrowing creatures would unconsciously turn.

The System helped me refine the identification matrix until there was exactly one entity the concealment did not affect.

Me.

The ward recognized my magical signature, blood, Guardian authority, Primordial Soul Core, and personal authorization simultaneously. To everyone else, the Class 5 Ley Line simply wasn't there.

The completed system took nearly two hours to construct even with all of my minds working simultaneously. Once I activated it, the exposed gold-and-silver magical river vanished beneath what appeared to be ordinary stone and ruined earth.

I activated Magic Sight.

Nothing.

I deliberately searched for the Ley Line as though I didn't know where it was.

Still nothing.

Then I invoked my authority as Guardian.

The concealment opened exclusively for me, revealing the enormous intertwined magical structure exactly where I remembered it.

"Perfect."

"That's better."

I stood and looked across the wasteland.

Hiding the Ley Line solved one problem.

It did nothing for the forest I had annihilated.

I couldn't undo the deaths, at least not without diving into resurrection experiments I was nowhere near prepared to perform. The souls of the centaurs and other creatures my magic had killed were inside Soul Space, but feeling guilty was not a good enough reason to start experimenting with people's souls and bodies.

The land itself was different.

That I could fix.

"System, show me non-sapient magical plant summons suitable for restoring damaged magical environments."

A catalogue appeared. Most options were vines, fungi, mosses, root networks, or magical trees designed to stabilize environments where ambient mana fluctuated violently.

One caught my attention.

A-Ranked Everfruit Sapling

A non-sapient magical fruit tree commonly cultivated in magical settlements. Everfruit Trees absorb excess ambient magic and convert part of that energy into nutritious magical fruit. Naturally resistant to magical storms, disease, and fluctuating magical density.

"That'll work."

I summoned one without even noticing the mana expenditure.

A pale-green circle appeared several hundred feet from the crater before collapsing into a four-foot sapling with smooth gray bark and broad green leaves.

It looked disappointingly ordinary.

"You're about to have a very strange day."

I placed both hands around its trunk and began altering it.

Earth Magic changed the roots first, making them stronger, deeper, and considerably better at stabilizing damaged soil. Water Magic followed, improving the tree's ability to collect, transport, purify, and retain moisture even if the surrounding ecosystem remained disrupted for years.

The purification aspect of Hellfire required more care.

Hellfire was extremely good at destroying things, but destruction wasn't its only aspect. Used correctly, it could burn contamination without consuming the thing being cleansed. I introduced that principle into the tree's roots and vascular system until faint golden lines began glowing beneath its bark.

Primordial Nundu magic came next.

I didn't give the tree poison.

I gave it adaptation.

A tiny controlled fragment of that biological principle allowed its roots and cells to adjust to toxins, Necrotic contamination, magical storms, temperature changes, disease, parasites, and other environmental hazards without needing centuries of natural selection.

Then I added a carefully controlled portion of my regeneration.

One of my Parallel Minds monitored every stage while several others analyzed the tree for unintended mutations. The last thing I wanted was to create a carnivorous Devil apple tree because two incompatible magical effects interacted strangely.

My Succubus and Devil bloodlines made that possibility especially concerning.

"System, continuously scan this thing."

I narrowed my eyes. "And no aphrodisiac."

The System hesitated.

My eye twitched.

"System."

Minor lust-associated magical contamination detected.

"Of fucking course there is."

I carefully isolated the offending strand of Succubus magic and pulled it out of the tree.

"Again."

No lust-associated effect detected.

"Good. I'm trying to apologize to a forest, not create an orchard where eating an apple makes people worship my tits." I paused and considered that. "Although I might make one of those someday. Food for thought."

The System wisely declined to respond.

The final component was power.

I wasn't going to expose the Class 5 Ley Line again, nor was I moving any part of it. Instead, I modified the concealment array beneath the ground and created a narrow regulated magical tap from the Ley Line toward the tree. Only a microscopic portion of the flowing power was permitted through, and multiple regulating runes prevented the tree from ever receiving more energy than its structure could safely process.

The effect was similar to running an irrigation channel beside an enormous river.

The river stayed exactly where it was.

I simply redirected a tiny amount of what flowed through it.

The hidden magical channel traveled through the soil until it reached the sapling's deepest roots. I then wrapped the entire connection in the same concealment system protecting the primary Ley Line so that nobody examining the future grove could trace its power backward.

The sapling immediately began growing.

Its trunk widened as roots spread through the ruined earth, while the leaves changed from ordinary green to pale silver-green with thin golden veins. White blossoms opened across the branches before several small fruits began swelling among them.

They resembled apples, although their skin was silver with faint gold patterns beneath the surface.

"Excellent."

I plucked one of the fruits and bit into it.

The flavor was somewhere between a crisp apple, a pear, honey, and the smell of cold air before snow. Sweet juice ran across my tongue, and I finished the entire thing in four bites.

"Holy shit. I might have accidentally made my favorite fruit."

I collected the seeds and planted them throughout the ruined area, creating several additional regulated connections from the original Silverheart Tree rather than directly tapping the Class 5 Ley Line for every sapling.

I didn't force-grow the entire forest.

Nature could handle some of the work.

In fifty years, there could be dozens of Silverheart Trees. In five hundred, the grove could spread through a substantial portion of the territory I had destroyed. Animals would eat the fruit and carry seeds farther into the forest, while the roots slowly cleaned up the magical contamination left by my detonation.

Eventually, centaurs, unicorns, fairies, and whatever else lived here might come back.

They didn't need to know who planted it.

I placed one final protection rune beneath the original Silverheart Tree. It contained no name, ownership mark visible to outsiders, or demand for gratitude. The ward simply prevented anyone from deliberately destroying the original tree until enough descendants existed for the species to survive without it.

Then I left the grove to grow.

Hogwarts

Rowena Ravenclaw had not slept, and Salazar Slytherin looked as though he regretted every decision that had eventually led to him sitting beside a magical recording table watching the Black Forest do increasingly impossible things.

Elder Braylock stood across from them.

The centaur had initially refused to enter the castle while so many of his people remained outside, but Rowena's explanation that Hogwarts' wards had recorded several magical events after the storm changed his mind.

The first recording was simple enough.

A powerful infernal signature had appeared directly inside the area the centaurs called the Death Circle. Unlike the magical catastrophe that preceded it, the new aura was clean enough for both Rowena and Salazar to identify almost immediately as demonic.

It disappeared shortly afterward, returned, disappeared again, and then manifested a third time from exactly the same location.

"The same entity each time," Rowena said while adjusting the recording matrix. "The signature is too consistent for three separate demons of the same species."

Salazar leaned over the map. "Which means something inside the Death Circle summoned it, dismissed it, and summoned it again."

Braylock's expression darkened. "What kind of demon?"

"I don't know," Salazar admitted, irritation entering his voice before Braylock could comment on how often those words had been spoken during the past day. "I can tell you it was powerful, infernal, and considerably more stable than the magical signature responsible for the storm. Beyond that, I would need to examine it directly."

"Which you will not be doing," Rowena said.

Salazar gave her a flat look. "I had no intention of volunteering."

Rowena activated the next recording.

This event had been harder to interpret. Purple and gold magic spread outward from the demonic entity and interacted with the impossible magical signature left by the horned woman responsible for the storm. The pattern resembled two interlocking magical authorities rather than an attack, and as Rowena slowed the recorded sequence, lines of structured infernal writing became briefly visible between them.

Braylock's ears flattened when he saw it.

"What is that?"

"I believe it's a Contract," Rowena said. "Not a simple bargain and certainly not anything I would attempt to reproduce, but the structure is too deliberate to be ordinary summoning magic."

Salazar nodded while studying the exchange. "The demon was one participant. The other magical authority matches portions of the being responsible for the storm."

Braylock stared at the map for several seconds. "Then the woman commands demons."

"Possibly," Rowena replied. "The surviving Redbranch hunter saw a horned and winged woman standing at the center of the storm. The demon appeared from the same location afterward, and this recording shows the two participating in what appears to be an infernal Contract. She may be a witch capable of summoning demons, a demon herself, or something else entirely."

Salazar tapped the second signature with his wand. "Given the difference in magical pressure, I would consider the possibility that the demon serves her rather than the reverse."

Nobody found that possibility comforting.

The next alarm recorded by Hogwarts had begun roughly two hours later.

This time, the Death Circle filled with runes.

Rowena slowed the image until individual structures became visible. "This section resembles an old northern protective script. That portion uses something close to early Celtic boundary magic, although it is significantly more complicated than any version I've seen. These are infernal symbols, but they're being used for ownership and identification rather than a bargain, and the structures beneath them are written in at least two languages I cannot identify."

Salazar leaned closer. "How many separate ward systems?"

"I stopped counting after seven because several are nested inside each other."

Braylock shifted uneasily. "What are they protecting?"

"That's the interesting part," Rowena said.

The recorded magical map flickered.

Then the entire central portion of the Death Circle vanished from magical detection.

Not the forest itself.

Whatever had been hidden there.

Salazar had attempted three separate detection spells at the time. Rowena tried divination and then reconstructed the castle's original magical reading from before the wards appeared. Braylock had even used the centaurs' own earth-sense after the magical disturbance disappeared.

None of them found anything.

Whatever the horned woman had hidden had become so thoroughly concealed that even knowing where the magical event occurred didn't help them locate its source.

"Can you break those wards?" Braylock eventually asked.

Rowena stared at him. "I don't know where they are."

"You know the general area."

"I know that something somewhere inside several square miles of devastated forest created a ward system specifically designed to make finding it impossible. I could walk into the region and spend the next year looking for the boundary without ever knowing whether I passed through it."

Salazar leaned back in his chair. "Which is a particularly unpleasant thought considering what happened to the last centaurs who entered that area without permission."

Braylock unexpectedly laughed.

Both humans looked at him.

"Our Elders spent hours arguing over whether we should investigate the Death Circle once the storm stopped," he explained. "I believe the decision has been made for us."

Rowena nodded. "Stay away."

"Gladly."

The final recording was the strangest.

Instead of death, infernal energy, or another magical explosion, life began appearing inside the ruined region.

One concentrated point of plant magic rapidly grew stronger before smaller signatures appeared around it. The new magic was powerful enough that Hogwarts' wards detected it easily, but it contained none of the hostility present during the storm.

Rowena had been monitoring it for almost an hour.

"It's cleaning the magical contamination," she said.

Braylock stepped closer. "Cleaning it?"

"Slowly. The Necrotic residue is decreasing around those points, the soil's magical balance is stabilizing, and ordinary life magic is returning."

Salazar rubbed his face. "So the being that destroyed the forest, summoned a demon, entered an infernal Contract, created a ward system neither of us can penetrate, and killed an entire centaur clan is now gardening."

"When you phrase it like that, yes."

Braylock stared at the faint green-gold lights representing the new trees.

Whatever lived inside the Death Circle had slaughtered hundreds of his people without apparently intending to. That did not make the dead less dead, and it certainly did not make the creature safe.

But it had stopped.

Then it hid whatever had been exposed.

Then it began repairing the land.

He didn't understand it.

At this point, he was no longer sure he wanted to.

"We stay away," Braylock said. "Whatever she is doing, we let her do it."

Salazar and Rowena exchanged a look before agreeing.

For the first time in nearly a day, all three of them had reached a conclusion without argument.

Valentine

I had no idea anyone at Hogwarts was analyzing what I was doing, and even if I had known, I wouldn't have particularly cared. My Class 5 Ley Line was hidden, the Silverheart grove had begun growing, Lindsey was safe for the moment, and I finally had a reliable way to send supplies and information to Zaric.

That left the question of where the hell I was going to live.

The Black Forest was no longer an option.

Technically, I could stay. The Class 5 Ley Line gave me an absurd external power source, and the new concealment wards meant no one would find it again unless I wanted them to.

The problem was everything around it.

Hogwarts was close enough that my magical detonation had nearly shattered its wards. Hundreds of centaurs and other magical creatures now knew that something catastrophic lived near the Death Circle. At least one survivor had seen me. Zaric's infernal aura had almost certainly been noticeable to anyone magically sensitive enough, and I had just spent several hours creating one of the most complicated ward networks I had ever designed.

This was not where I wanted to permanently manifest an Item I could only place once.

If I was going to build a home intended to last centuries, I wanted privacy.

Actual privacy.

Not a cave a few miles from a magical school.

I wanted enough space for the Necromancer Fortress, the Infernal Agricultural Domain, laboratories, workshops, libraries, living quarters, storage, maybe a school eventually, and whatever ridiculous shit I decided to build in the next several hundred years.

I also wanted access to the ocean.

I'd always been fascinated by it. Even before dying, something about the idea that most of a planet was covered by an environment humans barely understood had appealed to me. Magical oceans were probably even more ridiculous. Merpeople were canon. Sea serpents existed. There were probably magical reefs, underwater ruins, enormous monsters, and entire civilizations nobody on land knew anything about.

And if I was serious about eventually building a spaceship, having enormous amounts of empty land, isolated airspace, easy access to water, and no nearby population seemed useful.

One requirement mattered more than the rest.

I wanted another Class 5 Ley Line.

My internal mana reserves were enormous enough that summoning armies or throwing around conventional magic was no longer something I had to think about. But a Class 5 Ley Line was infrastructure on a completely different scale. I could build wards capable of running indefinitely, power city-scale enchantments without draining myself, operate magical factories, maintain experimental facilities, and eventually use the external flow for projects that would make ordinary spellcasting look trivial.

I looked north.

"System compass."

A directional marker appeared in the corner of my vision.

"Useful."

I spread my new wings.

Despite having possessed wings since arriving in this world, I had never really flown with them. My original wings had been inconvenient inside the forest, and transforming into a Nundu had usually been easier whenever I needed speed.

These wings were different.

More than twenty feet of black feathered muscle stretched behind me, and every tiny movement felt natural despite the fact that I had never used them before. Apparently the merger had included enough instinctive knowledge that my body already understood what flying was supposed to feel like.

I crouched and pushed off.

The result was considerably more violent than expected.

The ground beneath my feet cracked as I launched hundreds of feet upward, forcing me to snap my wings open before I overshot what little control I had. Air slammed against the feathers, my body rolled sideways for a second, and then instinct took over. I twisted one wing, corrected my angle, and drove both downward.

Acceleration hit hard enough that the ruined forest seemed to drop away beneath me.

"WHOOO!"

I beat my wings again and climbed.

The sensation was incredible.

Running in my Primordial Nundu form had always been fun because of the sheer speed and physical power involved, but flying removed the terrain entirely. There were no trees to dodge, rocks to jump, rivers to cross, or mountains to go around. I could simply pick a direction and go.

One Parallel Mind began measuring my speed while another monitored muscle movement and aerodynamics. I ignored both of them for the first few minutes and concentrated entirely on enjoying myself.

Then I added Gravity Magic.

The spell reduced my effective weight and altered the forces acting against my body, while Air Magic naturally began shaping the flow around my wings to reduce turbulence. My speed climbed rapidly enough that the landscape below began blurring.

I laughed and pushed harder.

A tremendous explosion detonated somewhere behind me.

"WHAT THE FUCK?!"

I twisted in the air, Hellfire already gathering around one hand before several Parallel Minds simultaneously informed me that nothing had attacked.

The expanding distortion in the air behind me explained everything.

Notice: Current flight velocity has exceeded the local speed of sound.

I looked at the shockwave.

Then at the System.

Then back at the shockwave.

"Was that me?"

Notice: Yes.

I started laughing.

"HAHAHAHA! HOLY SHIT!"

Another burst of acceleration produced a second sonic boom, this one expected and considerably more enjoyable.

Several Parallel Minds promptly reminded me that repeatedly breaking the sound barrier over populated medieval countryside would probably result in shattered windows, terrified livestock, and a whole new series of rumors about the monster in the Black Forest.

"Killjoys."

I climbed higher instead.

The temperature dropped rapidly as the atmosphere thinned, but neither mattered. My Primordial body barely cared about the cold, while Air and Gravity Magic made flight easier the higher I climbed.

I still had no idea what my maximum speed was.

That would require controlled testing somewhere far away from people.

Fortunately, that was exactly where I was going.

I flew north.

Mountains passed beneath me first, followed by coastlines and broad stretches of ocean. When I reached open water, I slowed almost without thinking.

The sea extended farther than I could see, deep blue beneath scattered clouds and streaked with reflected sunlight.

For several minutes, I simply flew above it.

There was something about the ocean I had always loved. A seemingly empty surface hid mountains, trenches, volcanic vents, enormous currents, forests of plant life, predators, prey, and entire ecosystems that had nothing to do with the world on land.

Magic could only make that stranger.

One Parallel Mind created a new project directly beneath the spaceship research folder.

SUBMARINE.

"Yes."

Another added:

UNDERWATER LABORATORY.

"Definitely."

A third began designing an observation chamber with magically reinforced transparent walls.

"Absolutely."

The spaceship group objected that we had not yet designed a spaceship and perhaps should avoid opening another massive engineering project.

I ignored them.

Having thirty-nine extra brains meant I could make more bad decisions simultaneously.

Hours passed while I continued north. Forests became sparse, mountains grew harsher, and snow eventually covered almost everything below me. The sea itself began filling with ice until enormous white sheets stretched between narrow sections of dark water.

I kept Magic Sight active.

Class 1 Ley Lines were common enough that I barely slowed for them. I crossed several Class 2s and eventually detected a pair of Class 3s. A Class 4 beneath a mountain range tempted me for several minutes, but I kept moving.

I wanted a Class 5.

If I settled for a Class 4, I would spend the next several centuries wondering whether I should have kept looking.

"Come on, Fiendish Fortune," I muttered while flying over another seemingly endless expanse of ice. "I picked you for a reason. Give me something stupid."

Nothing happened for almost another hour.

Then one of my Parallel Minds interrupted every other thought simultaneously.

Bank left. Strong magical concentration beneath the coastal mountains.

I changed direction so sharply that the horizon rotated almost ninety degrees.

"What did you find?"

Use Ley Line sight.

I focused. At first, all I saw was a massive glacier-covered mountain rising near an isolated Arctic coastline. Then the deeper magical structure of the land became visible. Gold and silver currents twisted beneath the stone. Not thin streams. Not the relatively narrow lines of a Class 2 or Class 3. Two enormous magical flows wound around each other like the arteries of the planet itself.

I stopped beating my wings for half a second.

"No fucking way."

A Class 5 Ley Line ran beneath the mountain.

The nearest coastline lay only several miles away, where a narrow fjord cut between high cliffs and partially frozen water opened into the Arctic Ocean. The mountain itself was buried beneath ice and snow, with no signs of settlement, roads, magical construction, or anything else suggesting that another intelligent species had claimed it.

"Fiendish Fortune, I fucking love you."

I descended.

Magic Sight revealed something else almost immediately. The mountain wasn't solid. Far beneath the glacier were enormous empty spaces. I landed near a narrow fissure between two exposed sections of dark rock. Cold wind tore across the surface hard enough to lift snow into the air, but my body barely registered the temperature.

The entrance wasn't impressive.

That was good. A human explorer could probably walk a hundred feet away and never notice it. I folded my wings and descended. The tunnel dropped steeply for nearly a mile. In several places I had to turn sideways or use Gravity Magic to float through narrow gaps, but the deeper I went, the warmer the stone became.

One Parallel Mind measured the temperature.

Another began analyzing the rock.

"Geothermal activity."

That was useful.

Then the passage opened.

I stopped.

The cavern beyond it was enormous enough that for several seconds even my enhanced vision couldn't judge the distance to the far wall.

"Holy shit."

The main chamber stretched for miles beneath the mountain, with a ceiling hundreds of feet above the floor and enormous natural stone columns supporting sections of it. Blue-white magical crystals grew through the walls and ceiling, producing enough light that I didn't need to create any of my own.

A freshwater lake occupied a significant portion of one side of the cavern. Several underground rivers fed into it, while distant patches of steam marked areas where geothermal heat reached the surface.

And beneath everything flowed the Class 5 Ley Line.

The gold-and-silver magical currents twisted through the rock far below the cavern floor before continuing toward the coastline.

I started laughing.

"You have got to be fucking kidding me."

My Parallel Minds immediately divided the cavern between them.

Several began rough measurements, others tracked airflow and possible exits, three followed the Class 5 Ley Line, two examined the lake, four searched for living creatures, and another group began projecting the dimensions of my Necromancer Fortress into the cavern.

It fit.

Easily.

The fortress and its Agricultural Domain would occupy only a fraction of the central chamber.

There was enough space for streets, housing, workshops, laboratories, farms, warehouses, schools, factories, training grounds, and whatever else I wanted.

A town could fit here comfortably.

Eventually, maybe a city.

I walked toward the lake while the projections continued.

The water was clear enough that I could see pale fish scattering several dozen feet below the surface. When I knelt and touched it, Magic Sight and several simple diagnostic spells confirmed that it was fresh, clean, and fed by a combination of glacial melt and underground water.

Another mind detected saltwater farther through the cavern system.

"Ocean access?"

I followed the magical signature.

Several tunnels traveled toward the fjord. One was completely submerged, but another was partially flooded and appeared large enough that expanding it could eventually create a navigable underground passage.

That triggered an immediate explosion of ideas inside my Mind Palace.

An underground harbor.

Submarine pens.

An underwater laboratory.

A concealed ocean entrance.

A shipyard.

A launch complex.

A vertical shaft through the mountain could allow airships or future spacecraft to reach the surface without exposing the settlement itself.

The Class 5 Ley Line could power the entire facility.

Geothermal systems could provide redundancy.

Ice and deep underground chambers offered natural cold storage.

The ocean offered practically unlimited water and an entire unexplored magical environment.

"Guys."

The ideas continued.

"Guys."

They finally quieted.

I looked around again.

This was almost too perfect.

Which meant there was absolutely no fucking chance I was placing the fortress yet.

The one-use Item appeared in the corner of my vision.

Once placed, it stayed.

"No."

Several minds protested that the site was obviously ideal.

"I know it looks ideal. That's why we're going to make sure there isn't an ancient dragon sleeping under the lake, a hidden civilization three tunnels over, an unstable section of glacier waiting to collapse, a cursed magical fault, or some eldritch squid god using the ocean tunnel as its personal bathroom."

That received more agreement.

One Parallel Mind reminded me that there was absolutely no reason for me to survey the mountain personally.

I blinked.

Then smiled.

"Right. Summons."

Infernal Command opened.

The difference between the interface I remembered as a Lich Queen and the one now responding to a Primordial Devil Queen was immediately obvious.

I didn't bother asking what anything cost.

It didn't matter.

"Show me SS-Ranked entities specialized in subterranean surveying, architecture, geological analysis, mapping, underwater exploration, excavation, structural engineering, and magical settlement construction."

The System generated a list.

SS-Ranked Sepulchral Architect — Master undead planner capable of designing and supervising city-scale subterranean, necromantic, magical, fortified, and spatially expanded settlements.

SS-Ranked Ossuary Geomancer — High-order undead geological specialist capable of mapping underground structures, mineral deposits, tectonic stress, magical faults, hidden caverns, and Ley Line interactions.

SS-Ranked Abyssal Delver — Extreme-environment exploration undead designed for underwater, subterranean, toxic, low-oxygen, high-pressure, magically unstable, and otherwise lethal environments.

SS-Ranked Deathless Excavator — Heavy industrial undead capable of controlled tunneling, demolition, mining, terrain stabilization, and large-scale excavation.

SS-Ranked Grave Cartographer — Advanced magical mapping undead capable of producing accurate three-dimensional maps incorporating physical geography, magical structures, Ley Lines, water systems, mineral deposits, and spatial anomalies.

"Perfect."

I raised one hand.

The cavern floor disappeared beneath an enormous summoning array.

Black, gold, violet, and blue runes spread hundreds of feet in every direction while multiple concentric circles rotated over one another. I didn't summon one specialist.

I summoned a hundred.

Twenty Sepulchral Architects.

Twenty Ossuary Geomancers.

Twenty Abyssal Delvers.

Twenty Deathless Excavators.

Twenty Grave Cartographers.

The magical expenditure was noticeable only because I deliberately paid attention to it. My internal mana dipped and immediately felt insignificant compared to what remained. If I had wanted another hundred, I could have summoned them.

Probably several hundred.

The hundred SS-Ranked undead materialized across the cavern floor in disciplined rows.

Sepulchral Architects appeared as tall skeletal figures wearing layered robes embroidered with blue architectural runes. The Ossuary Geomancers possessed multiple arms carrying crystal rods, resonance hammers, measuring chains, and floating stone tablets. Abyssal Delvers were taller and bulkier, with reinforced skeletal bodies wrapped in dark armor designed for pressure and hostile environments. Deathless Excavators looked less like people and more like industrial machines built out of bone, black metal, and Necrotic Magic. The Grave Cartographers carried floating maps, crystals, and rune-covered instruments that began recording the cavern almost immediately.

Every one of them knelt.

"My Queen."

A hundred voices echoed through the cavern.

I grinned.

One of the Sepulchral Architects stepped forward.

Its skull was covered in tiny gold runes, and several blue flames burned behind its eye sockets.

"Command us."

"I'm considering putting a permanent fortress here and eventually building a settlement around it," I said, gesturing toward the cavern. "Nothing gets built until I know exactly what this mountain contains. I want every major cavern mapped, every entrance found, every lake and river traced, every structural weakness identified, every mineral deposit catalogued, every magical creature documented, every magical anomaly investigated, and every connection to the ocean mapped."

Several Grave Cartographers were already creating a three-dimensional magical projection of the central cavern.

"I also want the Class 5 Ley Line mapped throughout the entire accessible region. Do not damage it, redirect it, excavate into it, or alter it in any way. I only want to know where it runs and whether anything else is using it."

The lead Architect bowed.

"As you command."

"Check for intelligent inhabitants before doing any major excavation. If you find something sapient, don't attack it unless it attacks you first. Report to me."

Another bow.

"Also, I eventually want a secure ocean route large enough for ships and submersibles, so pay particular attention to those submerged tunnels."

The Abyssal Delvers turned toward the lake.

"Understood."

"Go."

The hundred undead separated with startling efficiency.

Abyssal Delvers entered the water without hesitation and disappeared beneath the surface. Geomancers spread toward the cavern walls while their instruments began pulsing through the stone. Deathless Excavators accompanied them but did nothing destructive yet. Cartographers sent floating crystals into dozens of tunnels, and the Sepulchral Architects divided into smaller groups to examine possible construction zones.

Within minutes, the cavern was filled with controlled magical activity.

I felt no exhaustion whatsoever.

"Yeah. Definitely useful."

One of my Parallel Minds immediately returned to Soul Forging.

Eventually ours will be better.

I smiled.

"Obviously."

The existing summons were excellent, but they were still templates created by someone or something else. My own undead could be designed for specific purposes: Deep-ocean exploration, Mining, Research, Manufacturing, Spaceflight.

Maybe even permanent extraterrestrial colonies.

Undead didn't need breathable atmospheres unless their construction specifically required one. They didn't necessarily need food, sleep, water, comfortable temperatures, or radiation shielding. A purpose-built undead engineer could work outside a spacecraft for years without caring that it was surrounded by vacuum.

That was almost unfair.

I walked to the edge of the lake while the survey continued. The water reflected the blue-white magical crystals overhead, and deep beneath the surface I could feel the current moving toward the Arctic Ocean.

Somewhere infinitely farther away was Lindsey. Not in another universe, thank fuck, not beyond an impossible dimensional wall. She existed beneath another sky somewhere in another galaxy.

The distance was enormous.

That was all.

Distance could be solved.

I opened the Inventory menu containing the Royal Airships, followed by the Vaskian Royal Library and Archive Crystals.

Then the God-Ranked Ley Line Seed.

Then the unopened treasure chests.

Then the fortress.

I possessed more magical resources, knowledge, labor, infrastructure, and raw material than I had ever properly appreciated.

A year ago, getting to the Moon had sounded like a fun challenge.

Now it looked like the first test.

One Parallel Mind created a new research structure inside the Mind Palace.

PHASE ONE — MAGICAL AERODYNAMICS AND HIGH-ALTITUDE FLIGHT

Another added:

PHASE TWO — VACUUM SURVIVAL AND ORBIT

A third:

PHASE THREE — LUNAR MISSION / STAR GAZER

Then the final entry appeared.

PHASE FOUR — DEEP-SPACE SEARCH FOR LINDSEY

I stared at the words for several seconds.

"Yeah."

The cavern echoed softly around me.

I looked toward the enormous space beyond the lake. A fortress would fit. A laboratory would fit. A school would fit. An underground town would fit. Eventually, a city might even fit.

I could build workshops capable of dismantling the Royal Airships and understanding every rune in them. I could establish magical foundries, alchemy laboratories, libraries, Soul Forging facilities, underwater research stations, docks, submarines, and eventually a shipyard designed for vessels that would never touch water.

All of it could sit above a Class 5 Ley Line powerful enough to run wards and infrastructure for centuries without me having to drain my own reserves.

And only a few miles away was the ocean I had always wanted to explore. The fortress remained safely inside my Inventory. I wasn't placing it yet. The survey came first.

If the mountain was stable, empty, connected to the ocean, and as isolated as it appeared, I would claim the Class 5 Ley Line and hide this one even more thoroughly than the first.

Then I would build.

One of the Grave Cartographers returned through a side passage while the first rough three-dimensional map of the mountain expanded in the air behind it.

The visible cave system was already larger than I had expected.

I smiled.

"Yeah."

The Class 5 Ley Line flowed silently beneath the stone, completely indifferent to the woman standing several hundred feet above it, planning laboratories, cities, undead species, submarines, and interstellar spacecraft.

"This might work."
