Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 - The Chase

The next morning

Kade woke up, his eyes glued to the chandelier on the ceiling..

This was it, the day he'd make a run for it.

He wasn't exactly wearing clothes he could run in, especially since he didn't have any shoes, but right now that didn't matter.

He sat up, stretching his arms and yawning lightly. He knew what to do, but he also knew that there were cameras in the room, or so he thought at least.

He got up from the bed, subtly looking around for cameras. He glanced the clock above the dark wooden door, seeing that it was around 7 am. He grabbed a trash can, stuffing it with towels and other things, making it heavy.

He went to the bathroom, picking up the shower head and yanked it free, stuffing it into the trash can. He went back to the bedroom, pushed the curtains aside, and threw the thrash can at the window.

The glass shattered with a loud crash, setting off alarms in a blaring cry.

Kade let out a relieved breath, seeing a way out.

He wasted no time and jumped right out of the window, landing on the grass with a thud. It hurt, a lot actually, and yet he still rose and ran for it.

He ran across the lawn, the grass feeling dirty and muddy beneath his feet, dirtying his socks. He refused to be stuck with a crazy mafia boss who apparently has a thing for sniffing him, he couldn't-

"What are you doing!?"

The words rang out in a deep and angered voice, it was Dante.

Kade felt his heart drop, fear bubbling up despite his initial confidence. He sped up, starting to feel like he had metal chained to his ankles.

Dante gritted his teeth before setting off after Kade, chasing him.

"Don't even bother! The contract has you bound to me-" Dante called out, his eyes lit like a wild campfire.

Kade refused to stop. He closed his eyes for a split second, his breath quick yet heavy. He was so close to the road, he could see passing cars.. when he slipped over a small puddle, losing balance as he fell.

Immediately, Dante caught up, grabbing Kade's arm as he yanked him back towards him, nearly knocking him off balance.

"Got you." Dante nearly grunted.

Dante then dragged Kade back to the building and locked the door behind them both, yanking Kade over to the couch. "Mind telling me why you jumped out of the window?" He asked, yet it was more of a command.

Kade felt fear, anxiety even, yet also slight anger at having been denied his freedom so easily.

"I was trying to escape, what do you think?"

Dante laughed, seeming to find it funny as his laughter only continued. "Really? Well maybe you should try training more." He mocked, yet his eyes showed undeniable anger.

Kade glanced to the side, realising he had never been in this room before. He took in the layout, the soft white couch he was on, the many wooden bookshelves, a coffee table and a large fireplace with a television hanging over it.

Dante grabbed a remote off of the coffee table, and turned the TV on.

"Nobody is coming to get you, detective." He said, showing the news which only displayed something about bad chicken from the supermarket. "You're stuck here, get that?"

.

Kade looked up, his eyes darting to Dante's face, noting the sharp features. "Why won't you just kill me?" He asked, his voice dull but it was clear that he meant it.

Dante shook his head, letting out a sigh. "This again? You should know by now." He then reached over, grabbed Kade by his wrists and pulled him up from the couch. "Well, since you decided to destroy your room in an attempt to escape! You'll have to stay with me."

"WHAT!?"

Dante's eyes widened, having not expected the outburst, yet it only brought a smile to his face, as if he was trying not to laugh.

Kade's frown only deepened, his crimson eyes lowering. He mentally lashed out, but knew Dante had the upperhand and didn't dare speak against it.

12 hours pass..

Dante was lying on his large queen size bed, sleeping with no problems, all while Kade was next to him, handcuffed to the headboard, not getting even an ounce of sleep.

Kade blinked a few times, wriggling uncomfortably. He could only glance around the room, even as it was too dark to see anything. He had been in this room for hours, and now he was handcuffed to the bed, as if it couldn't get any worse.

He was just relieved that the mafioso had no apparent interest in touching him.

10 minutes pass..

Kade was starting to get bored, especially with how Dante's loud snoring kept him wide awake. With a huff, Kade raised his leg up and kicked Dante's back, right on where he knew the wound was.

In an instant, Dante shot up, whipped around and started glaring daggers at Kade through the darkness.

Kade pretended to sleep, his eyes shut closed although he was both dying of laughter and fearing for his life on the inside.

Dante stayed silent for a bit before lying down again, this time facing the detective, as if things couldn't get more awkward, but once again, loud snoring filled the room.

This is going to be one long night.... especially now that Kade knew he was treading on thin ice.
