Despite her intense curiosity about the fossil, Kalia restrained herself and shifted her attention elsewhere.
"I'll check out the second floor," Kalia decided. The first floor showcased ancient fossils, while the second floor featured historical texts, artwork, and some meteorites.
"Me too," Julian agreed, finding the first floor rather dull with its focus on Pokemon fossils. He followed Kalia to the second floor.
Upon reaching the second level, they noticed a significant increase in visitors. This area displayed drawings and writings representing ancient civilizations, allowing insights into the past through these pictorial representations.
Kalia traced her gaze along the walls adorned with numerous ancient illustrations. They depicted various prehistoric Pokemon alongside images of early human life.
Among them, several Pokemon species existed even back then, such as Growlithe, which was present during ancient times. In one drawing, a fiery red Pokemon resembling Growlithe could be seen accompanying humans closely.
Apart from Growlithe, many other Pokemon had origins dating back to antiquity. However, some underwent slight changes in appearance over time, gradually evolving towards their current forms.
For instance, ancient Pikachus appeared somewhat bulkier and rounder than today's sleeker, well-proportioned Pikachu, which still retains its charmingly plump look without appearing overly fat.
"Look, this must be a depiction of Legendary Pokemon," Julian exclaimed, pointing at one particular image. The drawing showed a side with azure ocean and another with reddish-brown land. Due to its ancient origin, the illustration looked rough but clearly depicted two opposing Pokemon.
One was blue, and the other was red. Kalia studied it closely and nodded, "These two Pokemon are ancient Legendary Pokemon known as Kyogre and Groudon, also referred to by names like Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre."
"These Legendary Pokemon have been natural adversaries since their existence. One desires to expand the oceans, while the other seeks to extend the lands. In ancient times, they reportedly engaged in frequent epic battles."
Enthralled, Julian asked, "What happened to them in the end? Did they die?" He reasoned that as living beings, Pokemon should have a finite lifespan, suggesting they likely perished over time.
Kalia shook her head uncertainly and said, "I'm not sure, but they probably did die. The books I've read only briefly mention these legendary tales. You could explore more ancient texts; there might be additional records about them."
"Indeed, it's intriguing to think that these Legendary Pokemon existed for so long. Have they truly vanished?" Julian pondered, though he realized why they were called 'legendary' - because they remained just that, legends.
"Legendaries are far beyond our reach now," Kalia smiled. "But as we become high-level Trainers or even stronger in the future, we can venture worldwide and who knows, maybe we'll find traces of these Legendary Pokemon."
"Yeah, now that my Charmeleon has evolved into Charizard, I can go anywhere anytime." Julian sounded excited, recalling his newly evolved Charizard.
In movies, he had often seen protagonists riding their Charizards to every corner of the world, a sight he always admired. To think he could now do the same with his own Charizard was exhilarating.
As Kalia walked through the museum, her gaze suddenly fell upon Center 2, which housed the Meteorite Area, filled with numerous ancient meteorites.
Her eyes flickered; she remembered Professor Evergreen asking her to search for meteorite fragments. Could the fallen meteorite he mentioned be located here?
As Kalia gazed at the displayed meteorites, she noticed some were ordinary gray stones with uneven surfaces, not revealing much detail. However, others were truly captivating, showcasing various vibrant colors.
One particular black, glossy meteorite caught her eye. Although she couldn't touch it, its smooth surface was significantly more appealing than those pitted and rough ones.
"That Meteorite Shard..."
Kalia's attention was drawn to a specific fragment resembling the one depicted in the Professor's image—it also exhibited multiple hues. She glanced at the label and confirmed it was indeed from Rockcliff City's meteorite crater. Comparing it to the picture, aside from differing shapes, they appeared identical.
"But I'll have to find it myself," Kalia sighed inwardly. Everything here belonged to the museum; thus, she would need to visit the meteorite crater personally to locate similar fragments.
Still, seeing the actual meteorite shards and learning that they originated from Rockcliff City's crater greatly aided her search efforts.
After spending considerable time at the museum, Kalia finally departed feeling quite uplifted. She realized how limited her knowledge was, primarily gained from books.
The ancient artifacts within the museum greatly broadened her understanding, providing insights into historical information. Most importantly, she discovered fragments of the colorful meteorite shard that the doctor had asked her to find.
Kalia decided not to inform the doctor about the museum's findings yet. Even for a Pokemon Professor, obtaining items from the museum for research would be impossible; mentioning it now would serve no purpose. Instead, she planned to wait until finding actual meteorite shards outside before discussing it with him.
Inside his Poké Ball, Lian remained concealed, fully aware he couldn't appear openly in the museum. Despite itching with curiosity to explore its exhibits, he had to restrain himself.
What a pity!
Being transformed into a Pokemon presented many inconveniences, with size being the primary issue. If he were as small and agile as Pikachu, he could have easily perched on Kalia's shoulder. However, as a Charizard, appearing inside the museum would undoubtedly attract immediate attention from security personnel.
Suddenly,
Crash!
A loud noise echoed through the museum as a glass window shattered on the first floor. A Flying-type Pokémon burst out, swiftly heading towards the sky.
Kalia turned, alarmed, "What just happened?"
"A Pokemon has stolen something from the museum!" Julian shouted loudly. This was a serious matter; someone had the audacity to command a Pokemon for theft at the museum.
Upon hearing this, Lian swiftly emerged and flew towards the sky. The idea of a Pokemon stealing from the museum couldn't be ignored.
As he soared, Lian scanned his surroundings and spotted a Flying-type Pokemon darting away in the distance.
He immediately flapped his wings, giving chase while keeping an eye on the distant figure, which appeared to be a Swoobat - a rare Flying-type Pokemon from the Ellie Region.
The Swoobat ascended steadily, with what seemed like a gray fossil tied to its tail, likely the stolen item from the museum.
"Charizard, let's follow them."
It was already late evening. Seeing Charizard take initiative to pursue, Kalia had no choice but to follow, fearing any mishap might jeopardize their match scheduled for the next day.
"Hop on." Nearby, Julian released his own Charizard, inviting Kalia to join him.
With some hesitation, she climbed aboard, and together they rode the Charizard, chasing after Lian.
Simultaneously, the museum reacted by dispatching Trainers with their Flying-type Pokemon to give pursuit.
