I got the girls to the SUV but more of them stood in the way so I told them to drive while I fend them off. Irene drove off while Sonja kept calling out. I ran once they cleared the compound. I started running and kept running till I was out of the gate. I saw Irene and attached myself to the car. I tapped on the window and she slowed down. Daisy opened the door to let me in. I told them to drive to the city so we can get supplies. Then we are going to Batou's cabin. Once we get there we will be safe and sound. We drove to the convenience store. I got out and searched for anything that was useful. Alice rolled the window to tell me to grab the machete. I picked it up and sized it up. I filled the tank with gas and went inside to get stuff. I was about to walk out with snacks and water bottles when I heard soldiers walking in. My friends were told to get out and they pat them down before they took their temperature. The doctor nod his head and the girls were told to get in the hummer so they can transport them to the last safe zone. It was the prison. One asked them if anyone else was here too. Daisy retorted that it was just them. The hummer took off and I had to drop the stuff and walk out from the back. Once I felt I was safe I slowly walked towards the city.
I managed a few feet when the soldiers saw me. I bolted and they pursued. I got on the roof of a pharmacy and Shaw followed a few minutes later. He saw me and told the men to stand down. He explained that I am most likely spooked. He told me to come downstairs with him. I walked out and was hosed before the doctor checked me for bites and checked my temperature. He told everyone that I was not infected. The woman soldier asked me why I would run when I was ok. I just wanted to get to a safe space. She was about to say something but the zombies came and I stood still while everyone ran. Bullets whizzed past me as they penetrated the undead. I kept walking as they stepped aside like I was a brick wall. By the time I cleared a block the zombies were dead. The soldiers came running. But I just kept walking. Shaw called out, "Why did they leave you alone?" I answered, "I was born with a rare blood disorder. They like to eat healthy food. I may appear healthy but inside I am still sick. They find me repulsive. I can walk everywhere and anywhere. I think it's called having a hall pass." I slid down the side of the road like it was going down a slide. I happily kept walking as more zombies made way to let me through. I went into the woods. Once I was sure they couldn't see me I made myself invisible.
The soldiers were yelling at each other to find a way to follow me. I walked till I found a campfire where two sisters were talking about tough times means harder choices. The older one was telling the younger her plan to rob people blind. In her own words, "It's us or them" I kept walking till I felt flying would be better. I had to find a clearing first. It took an hour. The trees had made an open path the foliage was sparse so I could feel the sky. I took a deep breath before launching myself in the air. I was enjoying the freedom when I heard an infernal buzzing sound. I looked left and right before I activated the telescopic vision. Seven drones were zooming all over like flies. I am guessing they are trying to figure out where I was so they can airdrop themselves there. I turned around and flew in circles till I saw a compound where men and women were dressed like it was during the civil war. The women cooked and cleaned while the men ate and protected the place. The walls were high and their leader looked like a pervert. He stared at the young girls and I smelled something that was repulsive. I quickly flew westwards. There was a farming community. Everyone was equal and everyone was respected. I like this one better but I would be useless after eight weeks unless I find a donor.
I kept flying till I found the abandoned hospital that was not abandoned anymore. It was like someone had kicked over an ant hill. Zombies were running like crazy and the soldiers were. Shooting as they made their way to the vehicles. Some didn't make it. Others barely made it out alive going in the direction of the next safe house. Serves them right. Pretending to make a cure but actually making them more efficient killers. I decided to find the cabin and make myself at home. Once I establish a safe place I will go to the prison and remove my friends. I need to make sure I am stable or I might hurt someone. I zipped out at super speed to find. It took echolocation and x-ray vision to find it. It was modest and could house a dozen people. I first had to make sure it was fit for living. Then I started to stock the place with food. Mushrooms and vegetables. I even stocked it with canned goods. I was preparing to get the girls when the robber sisters showed up. I used hypnosis to convince them that this area is unsafe. They should try going elsewhere. I recommended the gardening community. Anyone else would have happily killed those two. I walked and took a deep breath as I made myself invisible.
I kept walking casually since I didn't want to trigger any sensors. As the prison came into view I heard a distinct alarm. The kind that raises the hair on your body. Causes blurred vision and heart palpitations. Makes people freeze like an ice sculpture. And worst of all pass out. The alarm was like an ice pick piercing my ears. The locals were running for their lives. I tried to mentally connect with my friends. They responded and cake with their family. I smelled my mother's scent and I told them what to do. They did as I said as I searched for mommy. I found her in a Texas style shoot out. I pulled out the machete and hacked them into pieces and walked her out in one piece. I made sure my friends and their family were safe. We drove till we hit an impasse so we walked the rest of the way. I escorted them through the bushes safe and sound. When we reached the cabin we all settled without drama. I made sure everyone knew exactly what I was. The adults had questions but they were accommodating. Even mom was a little apprehensive at first but she came around. Daisy and I were setting the dinner table when she remembered Annie. I wanted to get them but Karolina explained how a zombie had overtaken them so I would be going there only to meet chompers.
I sat on the porch with the bloody machete. Mom came quietly. I can smell fear radiating from her like a furnace. I turned and implored her not to be afraid. I haven't harmed anyone. She stared quietly. Irene came and gave me a hug. We sat down with hot chocolate and watched the fog thicken. Daisy came out to tell me that there was no soap or shampoo. I gave her the machete and zipped back into town. I checked every store and finally I raided houses. I came back with an assortment. The girls squealed and I sat down to sense the troublemakers. Mom sat next to me on the rails. She stared as others came with requests. I had to get more batteries, flour, sugar, cleaning goods and meds. I didn't complain. I asked if anyone wanted anything else. Everyone wished me goodnight and went to sleep. I realized we didn't have enough sleeping bags so I zipped out and got more. Irene was grinning ear to ear as I returned. Alice was laughing delightfully. I asked everyone if they were sure they had everything because going back and forth for groceries will be difficult since the army was setting up blockades. I got mom a walkie talkie so she can find peace with Shaw. She took it gladly and sat there staring. I didn't sleep. I just kept watching till the sun rose.
Then I had to go to the city to get a bathtub. After that I had to go to the river to collect water. It took several trips. I eventually flew to and from. The entire time the adults stared incredulously. I sat down to cook breakfast. I had to make another trip to get eggs and bread. After everyone was fed. I took a bath. Mom came and brushed my hair. I asked her if she believes I am dead. She explained her apprehension about me because she was told repeatedly that non-humans are dangerous. She was assigned to find and arrest many. She assumed that once you changed you lost your humanity. So far I have been very helpful. She promised to keep my secret. She wanted to know what I saw. I pressed my hand on her temple and she was speechless. She kissed my forehead and watched the scenery with her human eyes. By lunch we had to come up with a schedule. The adults wanted to contribute. As everyone was calmly discussing the schedule I walked out of there to get some fresh air. I pulled out the walkie talkie and kept turning the dial till I heard a familiar voice. It was Annie's voice. She was talking to the cult called the purifiers. She was offering to help kill non-human in exchange for sanctuary. She mentioned she was betrayed by one as the government unleashed a new type of zombies in the prison. She lost her mom and she thought help was coming. I interrupted and explained that I didn't know where she was until Daisy mentioned her. Karolina said she and mom were eaten by zombies as I was about to rescue her. I asked her to tell me where she is so I can save. I have been mourning her death these few days. She told me where to go and I ran as fast as my legs would let me. I took her and brought her to the cabin. She stared for a moment and started to cry. I held her till she stabilized. I told her honestly that I would never knowingly ditch her. I am not Angelica. She hiccupped a few times as we walked back inside. Karolina had some explaining to do.
