Chapter 67: Selling
Dudley walked up the staircase leading to the Headmaster's office. Upon reaching the Gargoyle stone, he realized something was wrong.
"Oh no, the house-elf forgot to give me the password. But wait a minute, I don't think it was the house-elf who forgot. The one who actually forgot to give the password was Dumbledore. A house-elf couldn't possibly forget an order. They are bound by magic," thought Dudley.
"I have no choice," Dudley muttered, then remembered one of the fanfictions he had read. He turned to the Gargoyle statue and said, "I have come, Professor Dumbledore."
The Gargoyle spun, revealing the entrance to the Headmaster's office. Dudley walked in and found Professor Dumbledore, Professor Snape, and Professor McGonagall waiting inside.
He hadn't expected to see Snape there, but still offered a greeting.
"Good afternoon, Professor," said Dudley.
"Dudley," Dumbledore smiled. "Sit down, my boy."
Dudley grabbed a stool and sat on it.
"Why are you not using the password?" asked Dumbledore trying to open the conversation.
"I didn't given a password by house elf" replied Dudley.
Dumbledore stopped himself from sipping the drink and looked at Dudley, his mind thinking back about his order to the House elf and he indeed forgot to give the password to him.
"Im sorry about the Dudley" said Dumbledore.
"It's ok Professor" replied Dudley.
"I heard something interesting this morning about your project with Argus," said Dumbledore. "And I am more than impressed."
McGonagall smiled, but Snape frowned.
"He should be kicked out of Hogwarts for trying to kill Argus, a staff member of Hogwarts," accused Snape.
"Really?" Dudley smirked at Snape, further enraging him.
If James Potter was the number one person Snape hated, and his son Harry Potter the second, congratulations to Dudley who had now dethroned Harry and taken the number two spot, just below James.
Since last year, this boy had been a thorn in his side.
"Look at that," Snape pointed.
"Professor Dumbledore, is Professor Snape sick?" Dudley provoked.
"Severus," Dumbledore said. "Let's hear Dudley's explanation."
"Do you want to hear how I made the potion for a Squib?" asked Dudley.
Snape, who was a Potions Master, finally fell silent. Though he had taught potions for years, the curiosity within him stirred. Still, his ego and hatred toward both the Potters and now Dudley would not allow him to stay quiet for long.
"If you are alright with it, please tell us about it, my boy," said Dumbledore.
Even Professor McGonagall looked visibly excited.
Dudley reached into his pouch and handed a parchment to Dumbledore. It was something he had written down before coming to the Headmaster's office.
"These are the effects of the potion," said Dudley.
Dumbledore took a minute to read it before passing it to McGonagall, who read it and then handed it to Snape, before it was returned to Dumbledore.
"Do you mean your potion is not permanent?" asked Dumbledore after they had all read the report. In it, Dudley had written about the effects of the Focus Potion and the Maxima Potion, and how long a Squib could remain capable of magic.
"Yes. I found that the reason Squibs are born without magic is because they lack Neurocells AHD. Without them, their magic cannot be contained within their bodies. This is the first sign of magical defect, which happens due to marrying close relatives," explained Dudley.
"Neurocells AHD? What is that, Mr. Dursley?" asked Professor Dumbledore.
"It refers to nucleotides in DNA. Here is another scroll," said Dudley, handing another parchment to Professor McGonagall.
It took a minute for McGonagall to read it, and it left her speechless. She did not understand much of it, then passed it to Dumbledore and finally to Snape.
"You are using Muggle knowledge in potion-making," said Snape in disbelief. His words caught both Dumbledore and McGonagall's attention.
"Yes. In wizarding society, we are taught about the effects of potions, what herbs do, and basic chemical reactions. But we never look deeper into our own blood and DNA. We never ask what a potion actually does to the body. During my experiments, I discovered the difference in neurocells between wizards and Squibs," explained Dudley.
"So, you are saying you managed to create Neurocells AHD using this potion?" asked Snape.
"The Maxima Potion activates dormant DNA, but it cannot keep them active for long. The Focus Potion helps extend the active state of the DNA," replied Dudley.
"Impressive, my boy," said Dumbledore. "May I ask, are you planning to sell the potion to others?"
"Not yet, but I may introduce it in the newspaper. I also plan to inform people about the real cause of Squibs," said Dudley. "They are not born that way because of Muggleborns. It is because their DNA has been distorted, and their descendants suffer from magical defects."
"Good work, Mr. Dursley," said Professor McGonagall with a smile.
"Thank you, Professor McGonagall. But I have a concern," said Dudley.
"What is your concern?" asked McGonagall.
"It's about the Death Eaters. They fought because they believed Muggleborns are beneath them. There are even rumors that Muggleborns steal the magic of pure-blood children and turn them into Squibs," said Dudley.
McGonagall and Dumbledore looked worried, while Snape remained unreadable as always.
Dudley continued. "So, I fear they will block this news, or worse, they will not stop attacking Muggleborns. They might even do something extreme, like kidnapping Muggleborns so they can breed magical children for them."
"I understand, Mr. Dursley. I will try to use my connections to help spread this report," said Dumbledore.
Hearing that, Dudley raised an eyebrow. He had not expected Dumbledore to be the one offering help. After reading so many fanfictions, he had always thought Dumbledore was secretly an evil Dark Lord.
"Thank you, Professor. I really hope this research helps stop the Death Eaters from committing more crimes," said Dudley.
After Dudley and McGonagall left, only Snape and Dumbledore remained in the room.
"Dumbledore, I do not think they will stop," said Snape.
"I know about the Dark Lord, but what about the other Death Eaters?" asked Dumbledore.
"No. Their hands are too dirty, and they are bound by the Dark Lord's chains," replied Snape.
Dumbledore could only pinch his forehead in frustration.
