Chapter 162 - Echoes of Silence

Scene 1: Morning Hopes

The morning sun filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow over Maryam's room. She sat at her desk, her fingers nervously tapping the surface as she dialed Catherine's number once more. The call went straight to voicemail, just as it had earlier.

Maryam: "Still switched off... I hope everything's okay."

Determined to reach out, she opened her laptop and composed an email:

> Subject: Missing You

Dear Catherine,

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to wish you a joyous Eid and let you know that I've been thinking about you. I miss our conversations and would love to meet up soon.

Warm regards,

Maryam

She hit 'send' and leaned back, hoping for a prompt reply.

Scene 2: The Day Unfolds

The house buzzed with activity as guests arrived to celebrate Eid. Laughter echoed through the halls, and the aroma of festive dishes filled the air. Maryam, though engaged in conversations and helping with preparations, found her thoughts drifting back to Catherine.

Every so often, she would sneak away to check her email, only to find her inbox empty.

Maryam (to herself): "Still nothing... Maybe she's just busy."

She sighed, trying to shake off the growing concern.

Scene 3: Evening Reflections

As night fell and the guests departed, the house settled into a quiet calm. In the kitchen, Maryam and Ayesha sat sipping tea, the day's events leaving them both reflective.

Maryam: "Ayesha, I've been trying to contact Catherine all day. Her phone is off, and she hasn't replied to my email."

Ayesha: "I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sure there's a reason. Maybe she's traveling or caught up with family."

Maryam: "I hope so. I just wish I knew."

Ayesha: "Don't worry. I'll help you find her. We'll figure it out together."

Maryam nodded, grateful for Ayesha's support.

Scene 4: New Arrivals

Ayesha's eyes lit up as she remembered something.

Ayesha: "Oh, I almost forgot to tell you. My husband's younger brother, Irfan, arrived from Pakistan on Friday. He's a software engineer and just got a job with Microsoft here."

Maryam: "That's wonderful news! Congratulations to him."

Ayesha: "Thank you. He's settling in well. Maybe you two can meet sometime."

Maryam smiled, her thoughts momentarily diverted from her worries.

Scene 5: Night's End

As they finished their tea, Maryam glanced at her phone one last time. Still no messages.

Maryam: "I guess I'll try again tomorrow."

Ayesha: "Yes, and remember, I'm here for you. We'll find Catherine."

They stood, embracing the comfort of friendship amidst uncertainty.
