Chapter 303 - Chapter 302: Rematch of the Psychics (1)

The referee raised his flags and signaled the start of the battle.

Gladion and Sabrina sent out their first Pokémon at the same time. Gladion chose Gliscor. Hisoka appeared on the field with a confident grin. The scorpion-like Pokémon was chewing bubblegum. He blew a large bubble that suddenly popped and stuck all over his face.

For a moment he looked messy, but the way he shook it off with a playful smirk made him look more cute than evil. The crowd laughed and cheered for the energetic Gliscor.

To everyone's surprise, including Gladion's, Sabrina sent out her ace — Alakazam as her first Pokemon. The powerful psychic Pokémon materialized with a calm, intelligent look. Its spoons glowed faintly as it stood ready. Sabrina smiled confidently across the field.

"Gladion, for all your skills, you are easy to predict," she said. "You save the best of your Pokémon for last or at the later stages to give the weaker ones a chance to fight and have fun. Though even your weaker ones are strong. But are they strong enough against my Alakazam?"

She tilted her head slightly. "So now what would you do? Use one of your switches early before the fight even began since you think Hisoka is weak? Or switch to a stronger Pokémon?"

Hisoka glared at her immediately after being called weak. His claws clicked together in anger. Gladion knew right away that he could not switch Hisoka out now. The Gliscor was fired up and ready to prove her wrong. Switching him would hurt his pride badly.

'Damn you, Sabrina,' Gladion thought. 'You said that on purpose so that Hisoka could hear it and get all fired up to prove you wrong. And thus prevent me from switching him out to a much more favourable matchup.'

He continued thinking. 'She has started to use psychology. I knew she was extensively studying it to predict both different Pokémon and how trainers think under different situations.'

Gladion looked at his Gliscor and gave a small nod. "Let us prove her wrong, Hisoka."

Even though he knew that despite how much training Hisoka had done, he was not strong enough to do much damage to Sabrina's ace. Alakazam looked even stronger than before, and the mega evolution stone on it meant it could use mega evolution as well.

"Quick Attack!" Gladion ordered.

Hisoka moved with extreme speed. He flew toward Alakazam like a dark blur across the forest battlefield. Sabrina grinned. "Future Sight."

Alakazam's eyes glowed bright blue. It dodged the Quick Attack effortlessly, moving exactly where it needed to be. Gladion followed up quickly. "Crabhammer!"

Hisoka appeared in the air above Alakazam. His claws glowed with water energy as he tried to slam them down. But Alakazam teleported to the side at the perfect moment, its eyes still glowing.

Before Hisoka could adjust, Alakazam released a powerful blast of psychic energy. The attack hit Gliscor hard and sent him flying backward across the field.

Gladion thought, 'Her Alakazam has mastered Future Sight to another degree. It is an OP move just like in the games, but even more OP in the real world.'

Future sight was a move that could bypass many defense type moved and even is hard to dodge.

Future Sight allows the user to see a few seconds into the future. The move dealt damage after a short delay, and it could not be easily dodged once set.

But Alakazam had taken it further. It used the future sight to predict and dodge attacks before they even landed. It was almost like seeing the future and reacting instantly. Gladion had rarely seen anyone use the move at such a high level.

'It is almost like he can use Future Sight like the people in the one piece world.' He thought.

Sabrina decided to end the fight quickly. "Psycho Cut!"

Alakazam formed a sharp blade of pure psychic energy and launched it toward the downed Gliscor. Hisoka was still recovering from the previous hit and could not dodge in time.

Gladion knew it was over for Gliscor, but he wanted to give his Pokémon a chance to contribute something meaningful.

"Toxic Spikes!" Gladion ordered.

Gliscor grinned despite the pain. He charged up a ball of poison energy and fired it into the sky. The Psycho Cut hit him a second later, knocking him out cold.

But as he fell, the poison ball exploded above the field and split into numerous smaller toxic spikes that rained down and sank into the ground, getting absorbed by the battlefield.

The crowd cheered loudly at the exchange. Sabrina had drawn first blood, but Gladion had left a dangerous trap on the field. Toxic Spikes now covered the battlefield, ready to poison any Pokémon Sabrina sent out next.

Gladion returned Hisoka to his Poke Ball with a gentle motion. "You did well. Rest now."
