Author's Notes: Chapter edited and corrected by Vongrak.
"What the hell are you doing?" Aizawa asked as he approached, ignoring the arguments of the participants around him. I was sitting in a beach chair with sunglasses and a chocolate bar.
"I couldn't find the exit to the antichamber," I said, shrugging. "And literally everyone I know told me that if I got lost, I should stay put and not move, something about worrying about me leaving the country." I snorted. Aizawa pinched the bridge of his nose.
"You just had to follow the damn directions," Aizawa said wearily.
"I couldn't find them." I said without hesitation. Aizawa just pointed his finger above and behind me. I blinked and looked up. I blinked a couple of times as I saw the huge arrow with the sign antichamber.
I blinked a couple more times as I looked at the sign, which was right behind me, not even more than two meters away. I looked down at Aizawa.
"They just installed it." I said seriously, without any shame. I could see Aizawa's eye twitch slightly.
"Just... go to the damn antichamber." Aizawa growled. "I had to convince the examiners that you weren't cheating by staying in the testing area, you were just stupid." He added with a snarl. I stood up and snorted.
"That's insulting, Sensei. I'm mentally ill and you're calling me stupid? That's discrimination." I said with a fake whine, something Aizawa didn't buy for a second. He simply lifted his foot and kicked me to push me away.
"Shut your mouth and walk." Aizawa growled as he continued kicking me. I laughed, dropping my things into my shadows before starting to walk. "To the other side!" Aizawa yelled. I turned around without any embarrassment and started walking. "Just... follow Herbert's aura, she's already there," Aizawa said wearily.
I gave her a wide smile and started walking while following Taylor's aura, blinking when I felt Ruby and Azula's aura inside too.
"Finally, you're here," Taylor murmured when he saw me come in. "I was about to send a swarm of insects to look for you, but I wasn't sure if they'd think I was trying to cheat." Taylor said with an apologetic smile.
"What a surprise, I didn't think you'd already passed," I said to the three of them. Ruby smiled broadly and raised her fist happily.
"It was easy! I did the same as you! Increase my speed and place the balls on the slowest participants!" Ruby said cheerfully. "Warlord Skitter committed war crimes!" she pointed out quickly.
"Ruby!" Taylor exclaimed, blushing.
"Oh, it was terrifying. I'm sure at least a dozen participants will leave with insect phobias thanks to Warlord Skitter." Azula sneered with a wide grin, and my smile began to grow.
"Ooh, there are new stories about Warlord Skitter." I asked playfully, and Taylor let out a pitiful grunt.
"Stop calling me that," Taylor complained, almost pleading.
"""No,""" we all said at the same time. I couldn't see Taylor's face, but she was definitely pouting, which made all three of us laugh.
"So, what crimes against the Geneva 'suggestions' did she commit?" I asked playfully. Taylor blushed deeply as she tried to glare at me, I could hear Ruby stifle a laugh.
"It was a simple and very effective suppression tactic." Taylor defended herself before either of the other two could speak, her voice trembling slightly as Ruby and Azula snorted amusedly.
"She grabbed her entire swarm, made them crawl inside the costumes of almost 50 people, then made the whole apocalyptic swarm speak at once with those nightmarish walking noises her insects can make, and threatened them."
"If anyone moves, I'll have my insects turn them into my new living nests."
"Then some poor devil tried to defend herself and Taylor ate her alive! The participant's screams made everyone else freeze in terror! Then she used her insects to mark the participants with their own testing balls, disqualifying all 50 participants."
"It was incredible! I could count at least three of them crying in terror! " Ruby said happily as she recounted everything, even trying to imitate Taylor's insect voices. My smile only grew enormously before I burst out laughing.
"Oh goddess, I'm so sorry I missed it!" I said ruefully.
"It wasn't that bad! And I didn't kill anyone! I only made them fake bite her! " Taylor said, embarrassed.
"You made them go inside their holes, I'm sure she even peed." Azula said playfully with a wide smile. Taylor groaned loudly. I chuckled under my breath.
"Well done, the legends of Warlord Skitter have to grow." I said playfully in her direction. Taylor just huffed and crossed her arms while pouting. I chuckled.
"And you, Zula?" I asked curiously, feeling sorry for Taylor. Azula just nodded.
"It was easy, for some reason they all started attacking us as soon as the exam began, I blocked the chi of several of them and marked them with the balls when they couldn't move." Azula said while shrugging, I nodded.
"That's good. I thought I'd been waiting longer, but there are still only a few of us; more of us must be starting to arrive soon." I said simply as I looked around.
Just as I expected, we only had to wait a few seconds before a classmate from Class 1-A cheerfully walked through the door. She approached us with a big smile, as did Todoroki, who was also approaching.
The conversation began to flow quickly as more students took the exam. Slowly but surely, Class 1A continued to arrive in the Anteroom. So far, none had been eliminated, which was still impressive.
Finally, all 100 people who passed the exams were inside.
"100 people!! That's all folks!!" The exam is over!! "Well, it pains me to say that those who failed will have to leave the stadium! " Mera's voice echoed loudly throughout the stadium.
"Yessss!!" Ashido exclaimed happily as she raised her fists.
"Everyone from UA made it through the first round!" Uraraka exclaimed, joining in the celebration.
"Ha! We're awesome! " Jinx said, joining in with a huge, deranged grin. The celebration was short-lived, however, as the screens lit up and changed.
"Well then, for the 100 of you who have passed by, please take a look." Mera's voice echoed again as she showed the battlefield.
BADOOOM!!!! Huge explosions began to erupt all around, dozens, maybe hundreds of carefully placed explosions were heard all over the battlefield.
The screen showed the entire stadium beginning to collapse due to the explosions. I whistled, "Impressive." UA was something else; being able to pull off feats like that was easy for Nezu, especially with the teachers he had at his disposal.
But for the HPSC to do things like that was impressive. Just destroying dozens of buildings, mountains, and other structures in a controlled manner simply for an exam? That they would then have to rebuild it for the next exam? It was incredible in its own way.
"This will be the next and final stage of the exam! In this destroyed place... we want to see your rescue maneuvers! "
Just like in the canon, Mera began explaining about the civilians trained to fake accident victims, whom we had to rescue. Listen closely to the entire discussion around us, including Inasa and Todoroki's confrontation.
"Miyamura Izumi, we need to talk." Once she came up behind me, I turned around and saw Mera? Why would I be here?
I saw the other participants staring at us, especially Class 1A, who looked worried. I just nodded in Mera's direction before giving my classmates a small, reassuring smile, then followed Mera out of the building.
"Do you have any idea why I called you, Mr. Miyamura?" Mera asked once we were outside, her voice somehow sounding sleepier than Aizawa's, which was quite an achievement in itself.
"Not really, ma'am." I said cautiously. Mera just sighed.
"Alright, your teacher in charge, Mr. Aizawa, has registered and recommended you as a person with a Healing Quirk. Recovery Girl authorizes you to use your quirk on other people without any problems, so you can choose two formats for the exam."
"Take the normal version with all the rest of your classmates, or stay in the makeshift medical area to provide assistance to the accident victims." Mera said, almost bored. I raised an eyebrow.
"Fake assistance? None of them are actually injured, how will my medical assistance be rated if I can't actually heal any wounds? " I asked, confused. Mera nodded.
"Recovery Girl and Eraser Head sent us all the necessary paperwork, and as long as their medical assistance, prognosis, and treatments are correct, we'll consider it a success on their end," Mera said, and I nodded.
"It all sounds great, but there's just one problem I have." I said, nodding slightly before staring intently at Mera. "Why am I the only one being given this option? I'm sure there's at least one other person inside capable of providing the same assistance as me, so... why me?" I finally asked.
"Look, Miyamura, there's no one in Japan, really, no one in the world, who hasn't seen your fight in Kamino. We don't need to know what you're capable of because we've all already seen it."
"And you only highlighted it during the first exam. You were the first to finish, it only took you 1.53 seconds. You were the fastest to finish the exam since they were created," Mera said without any doubt. Eh, it was good to know my time.
"This is a rescue exercise, it's different from a fight." I pointed out, raising an eyebrow. Mera shrugged.
"True, but the HPSC has data on all participants sent by their respective schools. Your shadows are capable of absorbing tons of debris and preventing any collapse, or simply pulling victims into your shadows to protect them." Mera replied, and I clicked my tongue.
"They really want to get me out of the rescue operations, don't they? " I said with a grimace. Mera shrugged, not looking guilty, just bored.
"We need the fake victims for the other participants. At your speed, you'd be able to rescue all the victims before the others could do anything," Mera pointed out. I snorted. "Besides, healing quirks are really rare and in high demand. We have to evaluate them carefully. And if you still don't agree, let me find... something," Mera said as she started checking her pockets. "Ah! Here it is! " Mera said.
From her pocket she took out a small folded piece of paper.
"It's a message from Eraser Head, ahem, it says, 'do as they say, or you'll continue having classes with Recovery Girl'." Mera said as she read the message. I stared at it incredulously before turning to look at Aizawa, who was sitting in the stadium seats in the distance. I could see Aizawa staring at me before his mouth moved slowly and deliberately.
Do it.
And then Aizawa had the nerve to smirk. I wanted to punch him in the face. I gritted my teeth before sighing.
"Fine! I'll take the exam to become a medical assistant." I grumbled irritably, Mera smiled slightly and nodded.
"Okay, now I'll tell you the rules. There aren't many. You simply have to stay within the designated area where the stretchers and other medical resources are located. You can only move within that area. Leaving it, for any reason, will count as an automatic failure. While you're inside, you can do whatever you want as long as you're providing medical assistance. You'll be graded based on your performance." Mera said without hesitation. I frowned before stopping abruptly and beginning to smile slightly.
"Did you say... anything?" I asked as my smile began to grow playfully. I could see Mera flinch slightly and start looking at me cautiously, but she nodded nonetheless.
"Yes... anything." Mera said, I could almost see the deep suspicion, I just nodded happily.
"Great! I'll go prepare with the rest of my class. I'll need someone to guide me to my assigned area once the exam starts." I said immediately before walking away and entering the building without waiting for a response.
"Izumi! Is everything alright?" Ruby asked quickly. I could see the rest of Class 1-A approaching with concern, and I nodded. I looked at Taylor, who shrugged.
"I heard everything, I didn't say anything," Taylor said simply. I sighed; I knew she was listening. It would have been good if she'd also informed everyone about what was happening.
I thought briefly about Mera once more; I'm sure the HPSC should be aware that Taylor handled most of the rescues during Kamino, but she was still taking the exam.
I suppose they didn't want to show any more favoritism, or they wanted to see if what happened on Kamino wasn't just a coincidence. Regardless of the reason, I had my test to take.
"In short, my exam just changed." I said simply, which surprised everyone.
"Wait, what? Why? " Jinx asked, confused.
"After seeing my fight in Kamino, they don't think I have much to prove, so they want me to focus on my healing quirk. Therefore, I'll be placed in the medical position and evaluated based on my medical assistance." Explain simply.
"Oh, I guess Aizawa arranged it for you. You were having classes with Recovery Girl last week," Yaoyorozu said, noticing. I nodded.
"Yeah, Aizawa arranged it. It seems he wants me to focus on my healing quirk for the time being, or at least use it on civilians and all that," I said, shrugging. "Once the exam starts, you can't leave the medical post area, so you'll have to bring them here for me to treat." I explained.
"Ah... there goes the easy job of throwing everything at your shadows." Ashido said, pouting. I snorted playfully. I was about to speak when a siren began to blare loudly, drawing our attention.
"The Villains have committed terrorist acts! The affected area is the entire city of 00, the destruction of numerous buildings resulted in a large number of victims !" The damage to the roads is severe, the emergency unit will arrive late! Until they arrive, all rescue operations will be carried out by the heroes !
"Save as many lives as you can!!"
And so the second exam begins.
