Chapter 69 - Golden Eyes

"I'm giving you one chance to walk out the way you came."

"Now now, I can't do that, not when there's so much energy flowing through me, just waiting to get a taste of you. It is you isn't it, or maybe it's the girl behind you. Who to choose, who to choose.?."

'Curse of a Daemon.'

Eddie thought to himself, as he looked back at Alessia from the corner of his eye. She was staring at the two with fear in her eyes, she had no clue of what was going on, or of what was about to unfold infront of her, but for her, seconds felt like hours as she waited for someone to make the first move.

'I wanted to avoid this for as long as possible, but it seems I have no choice. I'm sorry Alessia, if you can here me, look away.'

Turning his eyes back towards the man, they began to glow as he looked at him. A large wave of aura, burst out from within him and covered the entire room.

The man's eyes widened and a crazed smile appeared on his face, in response. Letting off his own, he instantly formed two ethereal blades in his hands, and swung without hesitation.

Eddie quickly leaned back, dodging the first attack, then he jumped away from an swipe towards his abdomen. The man's smile widened, he was naturally happy that it wasn't going to be an easy kill, otherwise there would be no fun involved.

Looking at the man Eddie's eyes continued to glow, as he read the mans attributes.

Name: Ben Cage

Ability: Instant Manifestation

Class: Transcendent

Rank: Stage 1

'Instant Manifestation huh, that's an interesting ability.'

Ben moved swiftly and aimed another strike for Eddie's neck, but he easily dodged it, and grabbed his arm and tossed him to the side, causing him to end up seated on the couch.

Ben continued to smile at him, seemingly enjoying himself, he rubbed the surface of the couch and complimented its craftsmanship.

"This is a nice couch, where'd you get it. Wouldn't mind having one of these for myself, who knows if it doesn't get destroyed I'll just take it with me."

"You could take it now, if it'd get you out of my home."

Ben smiled back at him.

Eddie could feel something was off, the fight seemed too easy, the man was of the transcendent class, and yet he seemed so... weak, there was no doubt in his mind that the man had been back in this world far longer than him, no doubt causing havoc of some kind, so why was it so easy, something wasn't right.

The man's grin twisted, then without any warning, he threw out his hands, releasing the ghostly knives. Eddie easily caught the first, but the second was nowhere in sight, then he eyes widened when the realization hit him, both weren't aimed at him, that would be to easy, the man knew he would react fast enough, but what if the second blade went somewhere out of his sight, towards the one person who wouldn't be able to.

Turning his head, he was correct, behind him the blade was only a few meters from the face of Alessia, and she was standing with wide eyes unable to react to the speed at which it cut through the air. Turning around he quickly rushed over towards her, and reached his hand out to grasp the hilt of the blade, before it made contact, but the moment his hand closed around it, it dissipated into nothing, leaving him grasping at the air.

As he stood there momentarily stunned, a large weight could be felt in the air behind him. On instinct he grabbed Alessia, and covered her with his body, taking the full brunt of whatever was headed their way.

The hit was heavy, but it was nothing compared to his new body, he took a moment to check on her, but in that moment he forgot what he was in the middle of, because the next moment, an ethereal knife was plunged into his side, just below his ribs.

His mouth began to fill with blood, as the pain started to set in, Alessia looked up at him with wide eyes, shock overcame her, and fear... the fear of losing him again.

Ben popped his head over Eddie's shoulder, he looked at Alessia with a kind and sincere smile, it was a chilling sight to see. The man whom threatened not only your life but that of your loved one, chose to give you a warm smile after stabbing said loved one. It was like a waking nightmare, as his face twisted into a more sinister smirk.

"Sorry miss, it seems your friend has something that belongs to me."

Reaching around, he grasped the hilt of the knife tightly, and looked into her eyes, with a cold look.

"You don't mind if I take this back, right.?.?"

He pushed the knife deeper, and twisted it. Then he slowly pulled it out, savoring the sweet melodic scream escaping his mouth.

He smiled wildly at the sight, never breaking eye contact, he licked his lips and spoke in a cheerful tone with a hint of arousal.

"Oh, how I love that sound."

As blood spilled from the wound, a hint of anger and disgust appeared on his face, almost wiping his smile away, completely.

The odd sensation he had gotta before, that led him to this place, had gotten stronger for some reason. The sensation that made him thirst for blood and hunger for the death of the man infront of him.

He had assumed it was just an odd sense of clairvoyance leading him, towards a target that would make him stronger, but now he thought otherwise. Now that he was here, the sensation should have gone away, but it had only seemed to get stronger, especially so, now that said target had been dealt a heavy wound.

Was it the man himself that made his blood boil, and his thirst stronger, or was it the very blood that ran through his veins, or maybe... it was the very essence of power that encompassed his complex soul.

In the end, none of it mattered, strength was what he craved, and inflicting pain was what he enjoyed, and now he had way to do both, and the strength he gained from being around this man made it that much more enjoyable.

Seeing the blood fall from her brother's side, Alessia quickly placed her hand onto the wound, and applied as much pressure as she could, she grabbed hold of him, allowing him to lean onto her. Eddie placed his hand over hers, and spoke softly.

"It's ok, I'll be fine."

Although she was inclined to believe him, he was right, the bleeding had already slowed, and the wound had already begun to heal. But of course she had no way of knowing that, so she continued to hold onto him tightly, and stop the bleeding on her own.

"Isn't that touching, she has no idea what we are. It's sweet really, but it's also disgusting. A mere mortal standing before gods, bending to aid the weak. She doesn't deserve to live amongst us, and neither do you. I think I'll get rid of the eyesore first, then we can enjoy ourselves more thoroughly."

Unbeknownst to him, those words were his last mistake, and the last thread to be pulled from the heart of a gentle man.

Eddie had given him a chance to walk away before, but he hadn't listened. Those words were spoken, out of concern and were a warning to him. The man before did not enjoy inflicting pain on others, but in life there was a time when you must, in order to survive, or in this case protect someone you cared for.

As Ben took a step forward and moved toward Alessia, a dark an ominous feeling filled the area, the air became heavier, and the electricity began to go haywire.

Ben paused and looked around, as he noticed the lights begin to blink wildly, then a chill ran down his spine. He looked down at the man kneeling beside him, and a wide grin appeared on his face. For a moment there was fear encompassing his heart, but it soon turned into excitement as it began to beat quickly, adrenaline filling his veins as he involuntarily took a step back.

There were no words spoken, infact in that moment the world around them seemed to silence itself, as if it was watching with bated breaths, afraid to make one.

Eddie gently moved Alessia's hand from his side, she looked down at him, she could see a furious golden light emerging from his eyes. There was clear anger and chaos filling those golden eyes and yet his face remained the same, neutral, maybe even a little saddened.

She watched as a deep dark insidious knife formed itself in that same hand, he looked up at her with an unchanging expression, without saying a word, yet his eyes continued to speak for him, and she understood every word.

She let him go and scooted backwards away from him, and watched as he slowly rose to his feet and faced the intruder. She witnessed a deep dark smoke begin to emerge from within the knife, as a hidden condition that was set upon it had been met, and a dark whisper entered his mind.

The voice of the knife, speaking it's true name.

"Keir, The King of Shadows"

Rank: Divine
