Chapter 57 - The Wave Hits

Human POV

The military base was barely holding. Zombies battered the gates relentlessly, and the soldiers were running out of ammunition fast. The blood moon bathed the battlefield in an eerie red glow, giving the undead an even more menacing appearance.

Private Miller reloaded his rifle, hands shaking from exhaustion. "They just keep coming! How are we supposed to stop this?"

Captain Evans stood at the front line, barking orders to the soldiers. "We hold them back as long as we can! Reinforcements are on the way!"

But even as he said it, Evans knew reinforcements wouldn't arrive in time. The base had been cut off, and supplies were running dangerously low. If they couldn't hold out, there was no telling what would happen to the civilians inside.

Suddenly, the sound of cracking wood filled the air. A massive root burst from the ground, snaking its way toward the barricades. It wrapped around a pile of sandbags, crushing them effortlessly before retreating back into the earth. The soldiers exchanged terrified glances.

"What the hell was that?" Miller shouted, firing at the retreating root.

Evans' face was grim. "I don't know. But whatever it is, it's not just zombies anymore. We're up against something far worse."

The soldiers steeled themselves for the next wave, but deep down, they knew this battle was far from over.
