Tang Li Yue did not immediately deal with Bai Ruolan.

That would have been too easy.

A gardener did not hack wildly at every suspicious leaf the moment it trembled in the wind. One had to observe where the rot began, how far it spread, and whether the plant was poisonous enough to be useful after drying. It's a survival skill to be economical, after all.

The Sichuan Tang Clan had a saying for such matters.

If one could not kill it cleanly, study it thoroughly.

Tang Li Yue had always been an excellent student.

Unfortunately, Bai Ruolan was also quite determined to be annoying.

After the failed theft, the safehouse settled into a strange state of peace that was not truly peaceful at all. It was more like a freshly cleaned room where someone had hidden a rotten egg behind the curtain. Everything looked fine. The tables were wiped and the floor was spotless. The windows gleamed yet every time Tang Li Yue breathed, something faintly unpleasant waited at the edge of the air.
