The three passed through the enormous front gate as it began to slide open automatically. Waiting outside was a sleek back SUV parked neatly beside the curb, its polished body reflecting the glow of the streetlights.
Jade stopped in his tracks. "...Don't tell me."
Claude walked straight toward the driver's side. "It was also provided by them."
"Seriously?"
"They insisted."
"And why are we accepting them if they're suspicious?" Jade hopped into the passenger seat after Terrius claimed the back seat first. "They gave us a house, phones, clothes, cars, and what else?"
"Enough money for daily expenses for a week," Claude answered as he started the engine. "Only for a week. After that, we're all on our own."
The SUV rolled smoothly away from the Beaumont estate, leaving the quiet mansion behind.
