Chapter 2 - Chapter 1

[City of Magnolia]

It was night in the city of Magnolia; the city streets were just about clear as men and women made their way home. Most were mages, drunk and on full stomachs, all members of Fairy Tail. While the rest, simple civilians, who had just got off of work, getting late night meals or heading home to their beds, exhausted from the day's work.

However, there was another group out on the streets of Magnolia as well.

The Rune Knights, soldiers of the Magic Council.

They made rounds through the darkening city, letting their presence be felt, as they scanned for anything that may warrant the council's attention or worse wrath.

Ivan noted the presence they seemed to cary, mages moved out of the way, civilians waved to them and even said thanks. His eyebrows rose at the last bit.

On top the guild's roof Ivan Dreyar laid down on the building he had called home for the past sixteen years.

It hadn't been easy at all adjusting to his new life.

Dying wasn't something you just moved past and forgot about.

Many books he had read in his past life had claimed the opposite. That all the wonders of his new world would simply trump anything from his old one, making it ok that he had died and left everything he had known and loved behind.

Turns out that was not the case whatsoever.

For a while, half a decade he had been sad, lonely almost. He didn't even think his own brain really comprehended what was happening, but he had for a while still felt sad about leaving his old world behind. Most of the time the only feeling that rose up when he thought about his past life was mild homesickness. Something he had experienced while in college.

Being in a different world was much different, and you would think it would warrant a different kind of feeling than just regular old homesickness.

Well, perhaps the love he had been receiving here had helped in some way.

He would be lying if he said he was having a terrible time in this world, because in truth he wasn't.

The world of Fairy Tail, a classic anime he had watched back in the day, was a rather simple world compared to all the others out there he could've ended up in. He believed it had still been ongoing before he died, well some version of it at least. He hadn't actually watched the anime in ages; he had been in his mid-twenties when death had come for him and honestly at the time anime in general was the least of his priorities.

Still, he remembered quite a bit about the world, some of it he had remembered only recently because of visual cues. While most he had called back to when he watched the anime for the first time.

Magic, dragons, and demons were all things he remembered. Characters like Zeref and Acnologia, the big bads of the series, were not lost on him. He even remembered whose body he was inhabiting.

Ivan Dreyar, father to Laxus Dreyar and son of Makarov Dreyar, he had been a gag villain in truth, a steppingstone for Laxus own character development. Did he feel guilty about taking over his body?

Well, no, not really.

The version of Ivan he had seen was just a dick obsessed with the finding the Fairy heart, no real goal beyond that, let alone the power to back him up. His magic had been pathetic too, though maybe this Ivan would've turned out differently, the world he was in certainly was.

Being honest he hadn't even noticed the oddities of this world until a couple years ago. Most could be chalked up to him being in a real world, not an anime, certain things like the world's economy had not been mentioned much in the anime but were a very real thing in this world.

Besides that, most things were the same, Fairy Tail existed, so did Fiore, the Magic Council, and other nations that seemed to ring bells. Though the magic council weirdly seemed more like the real deal here. He had seen at least five outposts all around Magnolia, with rune knights that looked ready for war rather them simple surveillance.

However, that was not where the strangeness of this world ended, an organization he had learned about only recently, the Feathered faith, didn't seem to bring back any memories. Apparently, it was a big thing too, covering almost all of Ishgar. Except for its strict belief in human supremacy, the religion was relatively simple, believing in a deity called the Feathered Lady.

Was it a front for some evil organization?

From what Ivan had heard from Makarov, no not really.

There had been one event a decade ago where a few priests had caused trouble in Bosco, but that seemed to just be a standalone event that the faith had cleaned up themselves.

A few bad apples didn't make the whole tree rotten after all. Not with all the good it seemed they had done for humanity. All across the continent priests of the faith traveled spreading knowledge, as their scripture commanded, to any human who desired it, no matter what their status was.

It had been a shock to find out that practically everyone here knew how to read and write, with even a few knowing basic math and science. Though science seemed rather more cause and effect based rather than anything to do with atoms or matter, more so, you do that this should happen kind of science. Math was just as simple, with most people only knowing basic addition and subtraction, no calculus in Fairy Tail sadly.

Ivan sighed and stood up, stretching his legs and arms.

Tomorrow he and Gildart's would be learning magic from Makarov, a rather strict Makarov. But Ivan thought they may just be the effect of being named guild master only a decade ago and now a father. He hadn't had all the experience he had in the anime yet so jumping to the conclusion that this was an evil Makarov was a bit presumptuous.

That brought up some unwanted thoughts about the future.

Ivan had long since been wondering what to do now with his second chance at life in this world. Well not so much what to do, he had some plans in mine.

The better questions were would he start a harem? collect all the jade beauties in Fairy Tail? Kill of cast members while they were still young? Or perhaps use his young master powers to become the next guild leader and kill off any competition.

Yesss, all those plans would be perfect!

The thoughts caused him to chuckle which turned into loud laughter.

Of course not. He had a brain and dick, and he knew how to use both properly, he would not let his pants control him like it seemed to do for every main character who ended up in another world.

There was also the fact that he wouldn't get very far in said plans. This world felt and seemed very real, strangely so that he doubted anything would just be simple, or black and white.

Death could very well be lurking around the corner.

No, what Ivan was truly thinking about when it came to the future was what would happen to Laxus?

He liked the character in the show, obviously after he had changed, but that still left the question, who was Laxus mom? If down the line, he met a different girl rather than the one he was originally supposed to meet, would that give birth to a different kid that was not Laxus?

'I guess I won't find out until later down the line,'

Still, there was so much more he could end up changing by accident.

He knew messing with the past tended to mess up the future, a future he had knowledge of, but would that even be the case? Has the future already been written? Technically it had been, but...

Ivan sighed, so much to think about.

He would throw all those thoughts and choices onto the back burner for now.

He had training tomorrow and wanted to get some sleep for it, who knows what Makarov would unleash on him and Gildarts.

'Hopefully the SATs didn't make their way over into this world...'
