Chapter 605 - Heart Demons

So...

It turned out that Sunny's sword was bad. Very bad, actually.

It was almost as if it had an enchantment explicitly saying that bad things would happen if he used it too much.

Some may be wondering: What does an unsummoned sword have to do with anything?

Well, if anyone read the fine print, Hail Sorrow had a singular downside... it plagued the wielder's mind, forcing them to reminisce over moments of great sorrow. A blade that makes it impossible to forget sorrow and pain.

But where was the issue? Surely, as long as the weapon wasn't in use, it wouldn't have any power over its wielder, right?

It was permanent.

...Sunny hadn't really been bothered by it back then, having considered himself a person without much troubles in his mind. Frankly, he had no clue how he even came to that conclusion, because everything recently has been so mind-numbingly bleak.

And now, after a few months of inconsistent use of Hail Sorrow, Sunny was getting pretty sad.

...But, all in all, Sunny didn't find himself caring too much. So what if he was now a little sad? That wasn't anything new.

No, what bothered him was the fact that he could literally get one-shot by Tingyun. All she had to do was give him a Heart Demon, and some manifestation of his dark inner trauma would manifest and maul him.

Tingyun? Seriously? Of all the people who would have a 100% win chance against him?

She seemed to have a decent idea of how the Ability worked without ever needing to use it, somehow. Tingyun could plant a Heart Demon on someone... and in most cases, they only served to distract, confuse, and hurt a person's psyche. They took a form of something that individual held a deep negativity for.

However, for those who were deeply traumatized or mentally ill, their Heart Demons could materialize.

...Not completely. It was still an illusion, technically. However, the Heart Demons could physically effect their target. Only their target. The corresponding strength of the Heart Demon was based on how negative their target was.

And, in the final case, the Heart Demon was not able to do anything after it was planted.

Because the moment they were attached...

The host would die instantaneously from the mental strain of producing such a powerful Heart Demon.

As for what happened to the Heart Demon after... well, who knew? What Sunny did know, however, was that it would either be nothing, or something that wasn't very pretty.

...Oh, and there was also the possibility that the Ability wouldn't work whatsoever on someone. Normally, that would be thanks to mental defenses... but there was the very slim chance that a person could have... no negativity at all?

Of course, it was unrealistic. People will always have something they dislike, no matter how small it may be. The kind of existence that disliked nothing would be... very particular.

'Should I stop using it?'

Considering the current, and very sorry, state of his mind, it looked like he should stop using Hail Sorrow. Really, he should. It would be so dumb to continue using it. He was already kind of losing it, and who really knew how bad it could actually get? Hell, he might end up so mentally unwell that they'd have to make a new word for whatever he got.

But, at the same time... did he really need to stop using Hail Sorrow? The sword was Transcendent, it had powerful enchantments, it was cool, it had a mind attack which was pretty sweet, did he mention that it was cool?

So, ignoring Tingyun's warnings, he decided to keep using it.

Which would definitely not bite him in the ass later.

Sunny spent the rest of his weird, depressing, and terrible day doing normal stuff. Finally.
