Compared to the power gems he had once obtained from Groudon and Kyogre, Sato could clearly feel that the energy contained within this silver feather was far stronger.
Those gems had only held a trace of the primal power from the Super Legendary Pokemon, but this feather radiated something purer and mightier.
Even just touching the glass orb that encased it, he could already sense a wave of extremely refined and powerful energy.
[Ding!]
[Detected absorbable energy.]
[Begin absorption? The system is currently low on power. Absorption is recommended.]
As soon as Sato shattered the glass orb and took the silver feather into his hands, the long-familiar cold mechanical voice of the system echoed in his mind.
Naturally, he chose to absorb it. He silently willed the command.
[Ding!]
[Energy absorption in progress…]
[Absorption complete.]
[System energy restored by 30%. Current energy: 42%]
[Energy above 15% threshold — system shop unlocked.]
…
[Ding!]
[Energy Identified: absorbed energy is primal power from the Super-Legendary Lugia.]
The voice rang again.
At that moment, the feather's strange glow dimmed rapidly, and before long, it became nothing more than an ordinary silver feather, devoid of all radiance.
"What an unexpected windfall. The primal power/essence hidden in this feather was so abundant… It must have come from no ordinary Lugia. Most likely, it's from that powerful one in the Orange Islands."
Overjoyed at the system's confirmation, Sato gazed at the now-ordinary feather in his hand, his heart pounding with excitement.
The system shop was active again, with 42% energy available. That meant he could, if he wished, redeem six doses of the Mew Gene Enhancement Serum.
In his hands, those six serums translated into six top-quality Pokémon.
He already knew from experience just how strong Gold IV rated Pokémon could be. Their growth rate and potential far surpassed those of ordinary ones. His Swampert, his shiny Beautifly, and his shiny Gyarados were living proof.
The shiny Gyarados, in particular, was the perfect example. Despite joining his team much later, it had quickly risen to become one of his strongest fighters — so much so that even Swampert, his most powerful partner, struggled to subdue the massive crimson dragon.
Still, before opening the shop, Sato carefully stored away the feather.
Though it no longer held Lugia's primal power, the material was still extraordinary. And to most people, a Lugia feather remained an irreplaceable treasure.
One day, he might even find someone willing to pay a fortune for it, giving him ample resources to train his Pokémon further.
After sealing it inside a fine wooden box, Sato eagerly reopened the system shop — something he hadn't done in a long time. The moment he did, a grin spread across his face.
His earlier hypothesis had been correct: whenever the system absorbed primal energy from a legendary, it would produce items related to that Pokémon.
In addition to the existing items — Mew Gene Enhancement Serum, Multi-Space PokeBall, Random Ability Capsule, Groudon's Blessing Mark, and Kyogre's Blessing Mark — a new item had appeared.
It was called the Psychic Mark.
…...
Item Information:
Item: Psychic Mark
Effect: Increases meditation efficiency by 30% and Boosts mental/psychic power by 20%
Usage restriction: Cannot be used by non-psychic beings.
Exchange cost: 30% system energy
…...
Even from the description alone, its value was obvious. The second effect in particular was enough to drive every psychic being mad with desire.
Of course, its worth depended on the user. Only someone with psychic power could truly unleash its potential.
The moment Sato saw it, his first thought was: I must exchange for it.
His second thought: I, Sato, will be a psychic prodigy.
Indeed, he now belonged to the category of psychic beings. Which meant he had the right to use the Psychic Mark.
If he did, his chances of becoming an Advanced Psychic in the future would increase dramatically. The mark would raise his innate aptitude in one leap.
But there was a catch. If he redeemed the Psychic Mark, he wouldn't be able to afford anything else.
The silver feather had only provided 30% system energy. Once the level dropped below 15%, the shop would lock again.
After careful thought, Sato made his decision: he would exchange for the Psychic Mark. Its benefits would only grow with time, and the earlier he used it, the greater the return.
After all, items containing primal power were exceedingly rare. It had been five months since the last one. If he passed this chance, who knew how long he'd have to wait — or if another opportunity would ever come at all.
"This world still runs on strength. I may already be at pseudo Elite Four level, but I'm still far from the top."
"The road of growth is filled with uncertainty. If I want to progress steadily, strengthening my psychic abilities is absolutely the right move."
"That way, even against enemies I can't defeat, I'll at least have the means to escape alive. My body sure isn't built to withstand Pokémon-level attacks."
He patted his own sturdy torso, then glanced at the explosive muscles of his Swampert standing guard at the door, his expression turning serious.
With his resolve firm, Sato redeemed the Psychic Mark. Instantly, a deep-pink emblem the size of his palm materialized in his hand.
The emblem resembled the Psychic-type symbol — an eye — and radiated a strange glow. Waves of warm mental energy pulsed outward, enveloping him.
"So… how do I use this? Don't tell me I have to swallow it?"
He fiddled with it for several minutes, baffled by how to activate it.
At last, he tried holding it while meditating. And then — success.
Before his astonished eyes, the mark flared with light, transformed into a stream of energy, and shot straight into his forehead.
