Chapter 523 - Chapter 524: Ceasefire

Whoosh—whoosh—

Before the two Mist Ninja jonin got close, they hurled kunai with precision, aiming directly at Aomei's heart and throat.

However, such an attack was child's play to Aomei.

With just a quick glance, he locked onto the trajectories of the two kunai. In one swift motion, he flicked his wrist, sending two kunai of his own flying to intercept them. Sparks erupted in midair as the projectiles collided, neutralizing the threat.

Afterward, he turned his head and called out to Kobayashi Junji and another special jonin of the Leaf, who were not far away. "Stay alert!"

Without waiting for a response, Aomei activated Shun Sword Technique, transforming into a streak of azure light as he dashed toward the two Mist jonin at an incredible speed.

Kobayashi Junji and the others could only nod in acknowledgment. However, they had no means to intervene.

At the moment, they were already overwhelmed by the surrounding Mist Ninja, struggling just to stay alive. How could they spare the energy to deal with two enemy jonin?

Their only option was to place their trust in Aomei.

Fortunately, Aomei's record over the past few days had been outstanding.

As such, while they were naturally concerned, they didn't doubt his ability to handle the situation.

After all, if Aomei fell, the two enemy jonin turning their attention toward them would spell disaster.

While his comrades grappled with these thoughts, Aomei remained oblivious. He wasn't interested in their concerns. His mind was preoccupied with another matter: how long it would take him to defeat these two opponents.

This wasn't arrogance but a cold assessment of his abilities.

With his current strength, two jonin were far from being a match for him.

Even if one of them hailed from the Kaguya clan, famous for their formidable Shikotsumyaku (Dead Bone Pulse), it wouldn't make much difference.

If he refrained from going all out and only showcased the level of power he had displayed during the assault on Oil津 Port, he was confident he could defeat them with relative ease.

Still, he didn't want to appear too overpowered or make his performance seem suspicious.

Fortunately, the two Mist jonin didn't seem inclined to fight him to the death either.

It was clear that both sides were tacitly holding back.

"Perhaps I can use this opportunity to improve my skills," Aomei mused.

After all, he hadn't yet completed today's training regimen. Letting this chance go to waste would be a shame.

With his thoughts aligned, Aomei launched himself at the Kaguya jonin, swinging his blade in a clean, calculated arc.

Clang—

The crisp sound of metal meeting bone rang out as the Kaguya's densely packed bone spikes protruded from his arm, blocking the attack and scattering sparks into the air.

"Heh," the Kaguya jonin sneered before letting out a low growl. He channeled his Shikotsumyaku, causing additional bone spikes to erupt from his body.

Within moments, his entire form resembled that of a porcupine. With this enhanced physique, he unleashed a series of specialized Kaguya clan taijutsu techniques, aiming to overwhelm Aomei.

But Aomei, with his three-tomoe Sharingan fully activated, dodged and parried each attack with fluid precision. While seemingly locked in combat, he carefully analyzed the Kaguya's every move, committing them to memory.

Meanwhile, the second Mist jonin held back, moving fluidly through the battlefield. From a distance, he intermittently hurled projectiles or launched ninjutsu attacks, coordinating with the Kaguya jonin to ensure Aomei couldn't turn his attention to the broader battle.

This arrangement suited Aomei perfectly.

With the distraction provided, Aomei seized the chance to repeatedly train and refine his skills.

As time wore on, the fight appeared fierce, but in truth, all three combatants were holding back.

Well, except for Aomei—he was probably holding back five or six layers of his true power!

But even with everyone pulling their punches, the prolonged battle was clearly taking its toll on the two Mist jonin.

Though they tried to conserve their strength, fighting a jonin-level opponent for such a long time was draining, both physically and in terms of chakra reserves.

And it was clear they couldn't outlast Aomei.

Of course, part of this advantage came from the fact that Aomei had earlier drained chakra from several Mist shinobi to nearly replenish the reserves he had split into his shadow clones.

Had he entered the fight with only a quarter of his chakra, he might not have been able to outlast them.

As the Mist jonin began to falter, Aomei prepared to stop holding back and deliver the decisive blow.

But just as he was about to act, two more Mist shinobi joined the fray. Though these newcomers were only special jonin, their presence significantly eased the pressure on the original two.

Seeing this, Aomei sighed inwardly and resigned himself to continuing the "game."

Sunset to Moonrise

An entire afternoon passed.

By the time night fell, the battle at Oil津 Port had finally come to an end.

A massive firework exploded in the direction of the port, signaling the Mist's retreat.

Gradually, the remaining Mist forces began to pull back in an organized manner.

The third group of opponents facing Aomei also received the order to withdraw.

Aomei briefly considered stopping them to replenish his chakra. But a glance toward the horizon revealed several Mist jonin gathering in his direction.

Deciding it wasn't worth the risk, he allowed his adversaries to retreat.

After all, in the hours-long battle, he had already taken down one Mist jonin and one special jonin, while gravely injuring two others. That was more than enough of an accomplishment.

Instead of pushing his luck, Aomei returned to the temporary camp.

Once there, he reviewed the status of his unit, made some routine arrangements, and then retreated to a secluded corner.

With a simple hand sign, Aomei dispelled his shadow clones.

In an instant, three clones dispersed in a puff of smoke, releasing a torrent of accumulated memories and training experiences back to Aomei.

The influx of information was overwhelming. Despite his high mental attribute of twenty, which allowed him to multitask with ease, the sheer volume left him momentarily disoriented.

Pressing his fingers to his temples, Aomei gritted his teeth and forced himself to process the incoming data.

Roughly estimating, his three shadow clones had absorbed approximately 250,000 points of chakra during their time on the battlefield.

This chakra had been funneled into practicing Water Release: Wild Water Wave, Water Release: Water Pillar, Wind Release: Gale Palm, Earth Release: Earth-Style Wall, and Lightning Release: Shockwave.

Although Aomei had several other techniques he wanted to train, many of them weren't suitable for public use.

For instance, Fire Release: Dragon Flame Jutsu was a secret Uchiha clan technique, far rarer than the ubiquitous Fireball Jutsu. If his clones had used it, it would have undoubtedly raised questions.

Similarly, Water Release: Severing Wave was a high-level technique he had exchanged a significant amount of merit to obtain. It would be equally suspicious for an unknown ninja like him to suddenly use it.

Other techniques, like Shuriken Shadow Clone Jutsu and Chakra Cloak, were signature abilities he planned to use in the future. If they appeared now, it would inevitably draw connections back to him and create unnecessary trouble.

As for Lightning Release: Lightning Body Flicker, it required precise control over an actual physical body and couldn't be performed by a clone.

Ultimately, the clones had focused on simpler, more common jutsu.

But that was enough.

The chakra expenditure allowed Aomei to save a significant amount of training time. While the techniques may have seemed ordinary, leveling them up would enrich his repertoire and improve his efficiency in mastering advanced techniques later on.

For Aomei, the investment was well worth it.
