Violet's body hadn't even recovered when the next wave began to build again. Gods above, it was too much. Her chest rose and failed rapidly as she tried — and failed — to catch her breath. Every nerve in her body felt raw, exposed like a live wire, buzzing and alive in the most dangerous way.
Roman didn't slow. If anything, her reactions only encouraged him.
