Chapter 51 - Chapter 51: Underground adventure (2)

Frank and Jake had gone into town, but before they knew it, they were teleported into a dark, underground tunnel. Attacked by wild Pokémon, they fought their way through and encountered a mysterious, mute man chained to a wall. After freeing him, they followed him deeper into the tunnels—only to realize too late it was a trap. The man revealed himself as the poacher's boss Frank had encountered weeks ago.

And now, a dagger was flying straight toward Frank's chest.

Jake screamed as the blade whistled through the air, heading straight for his uncle.

Deena, the Pyroar, lunged to intercept, but she was too slow.

"NOOO!" the little boy cried, his heart pounding in terror.

But just as the dagger was about to strike Jake's uncle—it stopped midair.

A ghostly violet aura surrounded the blade, freezing it in place just inches from Frank's chest.

The poacher's boss grunted in confusion. "Was ist das!? What trickery is this?"

Jake's shadow rippled beneath him, dark energy swirling. A tall, hooded figure emerged from the darkness—Maya, the Decidueye belonging to Jake's mother, Eva.

Her usually calm eyes were furious, locking onto the poacher with deadly intent.

"Maya!" Jake gasped, relief washing over him.

Charmander let out a small relieved squeak, while Frank, finally regaining his composure, swiped the hovering dagger aside, sending it clattering to the ground. His fists clenched as he faced the poacher.

"You," Frank growled.

The poacher grinned, his voice dripping with mockery. "So, even the shadows protect you, Ranger? Das ist jetzt egal. Let's see how long that luck lasts."

Deena the Pyroar and Dwayne the Boldore stepped forward, muscles tensed. Maya hovered protectively over Jake and Charmander, her piercing gaze never leaving the enemy.

The real fight was about to begin.

Frank's grip on his Pokéball tightened as he watched the poacher's smug grin widen. The man, now revealed without his Ditto disguise, brushed dust from his ragged coat and cracked his knuckles. His sharp blue eyes gleamed with amusement.

"Ach, look at you, Herr Ranger. So tense, so serious. You thought you had control, ja? You thought you were in charge. But nein—this is my world, mein Reich."

Deena the Pyroar let out a low, warning growl, flames licking at the corners of her mouth. Dwayne the Boldore stomped his stone limbs into the cave floor, his rocky body shifting slightly as he braced for combat. Above them, Maya the Decidueye hovered protectively over Jake and Charmander, her sharp, leaf-like wings poised to strike at a moment's notice.

Frank didn't waste words. His eyes flicked around the cavern, scanning for exits, for advantages—anything. But before he could make a move, heavy boots thundered through the tunnels.

"Boss! We're here!"

Four figures emerged from the shadows, clad in the same rough, patched-up gear as their leader. Each of them carried a Pokéball, and without hesitation, they threw them forward.

The cave flickered with flashes of red light as four Pokémon materialized in front of Frank.

A lanky, poison-blue amphibian, its red throat sac inflated as it croaked menacingly. Toxic barbs protruded from its fists, glistening under the cave's eerie glow. Its eyes narrowed, locking onto Pyroar with a predatory glare. A Toxicroak.

The second was a hunched-over reptilian thug, its baggy yellow skin hanging low like pants. It crossed its arms, eyes cold and calculating, sizing up Boldore. With a snarl, it tugged its "hood" over its head, preparing for battle. A Scrafty.

The third was Swoobat, a large, heart-nosed bat, its leathery wings flapping aggressively, sending gusts of air rippling through the cavern. It shrieked as it flitted above, scanning for an opening.

And the last creature was a hulking, armored beast, its horn gleaming like a drill in the dim light. It stomped forward, causing small rocks to tumble from the cavern walls. A Rhydon.

The henchmen sneered as they stepped forward, already barking commands.

"Let's wear them down first!" one of the poachers shouted. "Go for the big cat!"

Immediately, Toxicroak lunged forward, extending its toxic claws as it aimed a vicious Poison Jab straight for Pyroar's side.

Scrafty followed close behind, dashing low to the ground before leaping up with a powerful High Jump Kick.

Swoobat soared overhead, building momentum before unleashing a swirling Air Slash straight toward Boldore and Rhydon roared and lowered its head, charging forward with a Bulldoze that sent tremors through the ground.

"Deena, intercept with FLAMETHROWER!" Frank barked.

Pyroar exhaled a searing column of fire, cutting through the darkness and slamming into Toxicroak. The poisonous frog shrieked in pain, its toxic skin sizzling from the intense heat as it was thrown backward. But it wasn't down yet.

"Dwayne, Rock Blast!"

Boldore stood firm, its rocky body barely trembling from the shockwave of Rhydon's charge. It fired a barrage of jagged stones at Swoobat, striking it twice before the bat screeched and swooped aside.

But the poachers had numbers.

Scrafty's High Jump Kick connected—HARD. It slammed into Boldore's side, sending cracks splintering through its stone body. The rock-type stumbled but managed to stay upright.

Rhydon's Bulldoze shook the cavern, and Pyroar had to leap aside to avoid getting trampled.

Then, Swoobat twisted in the air and retaliated with Air Slash, the blade of wind carving into Boldore's rocky body, making the Pokémon grunt in pain.

Frank grit his teeth. They were holding their own, but the numbers were wearing them down.

"Keep it up, Männer! The ranger's Pokémon are tough, but they'll tire!" the boss called, his voice full of amusement. He stepped back, arms crossed, watching like a puppet master waiting for his strings to do their work.

Then Pyroar used Grass Knot against Scrafty, binding it down while it was aiming another Jump Kick against Boldore, which gave Dwayne an opening and it used Smack Down to hit Swoobat.

Then, smirk of the boss widened.

"Enough of this. Target the boy."

One of the poachers grinned, eyes flashing. "Rhydon, STOMP on the kid!"

Frank's blood ran cold.

The massive Pokémon lifted its foot, ready to send a tremor of energy towards Jake.

"NOOO!"

Jake froze in terror, clutching Charmander, who was squeaking frantically.

The foot came down.

And then—

A dark blur shot forward.

"CHAR!! CHAR!!! CHARMANDER!!" the little lizard cried.

A flurry of razor-sharp arrows struck Rhydon's foot, forcing it back.

Decidueye's generally stoic gaze was burning with fury.

The owl Pokémon swooped down in front of Jake, her leaf-like wings stretched wide. A violet glow surrounded her feathers.

"Maya!" Jake gasped.

But Decidueye wasn't listening. She let out a loud hoot and raised her wing, forming a blackened arrow pulsing with ghostly energy.

Spirit Shackle.

She aimed.

She fired.

The dark arrow piercied Rhydon's shadow, nailing it to the ground. The massive Pokémon groaned and fell, unable to move. Then Maya followed up with Razor Leaf, a super-effective move sending a barrage of sharp leaves against the hulking behemoth, almost knocking it out.

The other henchmen staggered back. Their Pokémon hesitated—and that was all Frank's team needed.

Pyroar snarled and launched a Fire Fang at Toxicroak, catching its leg in her blazing jaws. The whole Pokémon was set on fire.

Boldore gathered its energy and fired a Flash Cannon straight into Scrafty's chest, sending the lizard flipping backward.

Swoobat tried to retreat— but Decidueye was already there. A second Spirit Shackle pinned it to the ground, wings bound in ghostly energy. Then Maya used Shadow Sneak, her shadow quickly extended towards the pinned opponent. The Swoobat was trying to break free, but Maya's shadow quickly reached it and then it was over. Swoobat was out.

Within moments, the poachers' Pokémon were struggling on the floor.

The henchmen looked at each other. They were losing.

"Boss—?" one of them gulped, looking back at the leader for guidance.

The boss's smirk had vanished. His blue eyes narrowed.

"Tch. Idiots. Fine. Step aside. I suppose I'll have to clean up your mess."

With a flick of his wrist, he pulled out a customized Pokéball, black with silver etchings. He threw it to the ground with force.

A massive, muscular figure erupted from the ball.

A roar tore through the cavern, and the walls trembled as a ferocious Feraligatr emerged, slamming its tail against the floor. Water started to swirl around the large creature and its red eyes burned with a wild, unnatural energy.

"Now, Herr Ranger," the boss sneered. "Let's see how you handle… this."

Frank quietly cursed himself for having only three Pokémon with him, because the Feraligatr looked really strong. Moreover, the henchmen were preparing to throw more Pokéballs and release other Pokémon.

"Deena, bind them!" he barked quickly.

"And Dwayne, slow that Pokémon down!" Pyroar quicky activated Grass Knot and from the ground beneath the henchmen, a vines appeared and started to bind them.

"Maya, help!" Jake called to his mother's Pokémon as he watched the henchmen trying to call more creatures to their aid. Decidueye closed her eyes in concentration and from the shadows of the henchmen, a eerie-like chains appeared and together with Grass Knot they were able to quickly bind and immobilize the henchmen.

Meanwhile Dwayne the Boldore opened with Sand Attack, immediately blinding Feraligatr and buying them some time. Then Boldore activated Sandstorm as his ability Sand Force boosted many of his moves.

"Quickly, Deena, knock them out!" Frank frantically ordered and Pyroar started to prepare Yawn to put the henchmen to sleep.

But the boss was not idle.

"Destroy that pile of rocks!"

Feraligatr cleaned its eyes and fired incredibly strong Hydro Pump through the Sand Storm.

"Rock Polish and dodge!" The Boldore jumped to the side, evading the stream of water in the last second and then its body started to shine with energy boosting its speed.

But the Feraligatr wasn't done and used Hydro Pump repeatedly.

"That is one strong SOB, using one powerful Hydro Pump after another," Frank thought.

Meanwhile Boldore barely managed to jump away at the last minute.

"Again, keep it up!" Frank ordered and Boldore dodged one attack after another and managed to activate Rock Polish twice more.

"Slash!" the boss poacher growled. The claws of Feraligatr started to shine and then it was on the move. Despite its size, it was incredibly quick and it was upon Boldore in a second.

Frank was so surprised by the Feraligatr speed, he only managed to cry: "Watch out!"

Luckily Boldore managed to activate Iron Defense, and its body got a shiny metallic coating.

"Wood Hammer!" the poacher yelled.

"Harden!" Frank called as he knew that Boldore has no mean of escaping the large reptile.

Luckily, both defensive moves were able to strenghten Boldore's body and the over-powered and super-effective Wood Hammer did not knock it out. But Boldore was sent flying.

"Dwayne, no!" Frank gritted his teeth.

Frank barely had time to react as Boldore crashed against the cavern wall, small rocks tumbling from the ceiling as dust rose from the impact.

Feraligatr stood in the middle of the battlefield, muscles rippling, its heavy tail thumping against the ground with anticipation. The air around it felt suffocating, its presence towering over the battlefield like a king who knew he would never be dethroned.

"Shit," Frank cursed under his breath, eyes flicking between Boldore, still trembling but not yet down, and Feraligatr, who looked like it had barely exerted itself.

To make matters worse, the henchmen were still struggling against the binding combo of Pyroar's Grass Knot and Decidueye's shadowy chains. If they managed to get free, the battle would become unwinnable.

Frank had too few Pokémon with him.

He had to outlast them.

"Dwayne, get up!" Frank urged, fists clenched.

Boldore groaned, his rocky body covered in cracks, but he forced himself to his feet. His once-shiny Iron Defense was wearing off, and Frank knew that if Feraligatr landed another super-effective hit, Boldore would be finished.

The poacher grinned, his sharp accent cutting through the battle.

"Du bist out of tricks, Ranger." He tilted his head mockingly. "All you have left is stalling."

Frank gritted his teeth. He knew it was true.

But stalling was all he needed.

"Deena, finish the job!"

Pyroar, still perched above the struggling henchmen, inhaled deeply before releasing a powerful Yawn. The pink, sleep-inducing orb drifted quickly through the air, reaching the four poachers just as they were beginning to break free.

One by one, their struggles weakened.

Their arms dropped.

Their eyelids drooped.

And then, they collapsed into unconsciousness, Grass Knot and Spirit Shackle still holding them in place.

Jake, watching from behind Decidueye, let out a small breath of relief.

"Nice, Deena!" Frank called before turning his full focus back to the battlefield.

But the poacher wasn't impressed.

"Tsk. So you've taken out the trash, but now you're alone with me."

"Feraligatr, Hydro Pump! Destroy that cat!"

The massive blue reptile twisted toward Pyroar, its powerful jaws opening wide as a concentrated jet of water exploded from its mouth.

"Wild Charge, dodge it!" Frank yelled and the whole body of Pyroar was suddenly enveloped in yellow electric energy and her speed was boosted.

"Don't play with it. Destroy it!" the boss yelled and Feraligatr released more Hydro Pumps.

But Deena with her boosted speed was able to run around, flank Feraligatr and hit it with full force of Wild Charge. The large reptile screamed in pain as electricity flowed through its body.

"Now, full power Solar Beam!" Frank ordered.

"Hydro Pump!" the poacher replied.

Unfortunately, the Solar Beam took too long to charge as they were underground. And the Hydro Pump struck Pyroar dead-on, sending her flying backward!

Deena let out a sharp yelp of pain as she tumbled through the dirt, skidding across the cave floor. The impact left her shaken, flames flickering weakly around her mane.

Frank's stomach dropped. Pyroar was still moving, but that was a brutal hit. Frank frowned and recalled the lioness to her Pokéball. He knew that she was unable to fight more and another hit like that could harm her irreversibly.

Feraligatr was much stronger than expected.

It was ruthless.

And Frank was running out of options.

The poacher chuckled darkly.

"You are finished, Ranger." He adjusted his gloves. "One more Hydro Pump, und your entire team is down."

Frank didn't reply.

He just watched Boldore.

Dwayne was struggling, but he had used Rock Polish three times. His body was cracked but the Pokémon was still standing.

And Frank knew what he needed to do.

"Dwayne—one last push! Flash Cannon!"

Boldore braced itself, its rocky body gleaming as the metallic energy started to gather in front of itself.

"What? So predictable," the poacher sneered. "That won't save you."

He pointed dramatically.

"WOOD HAMMER!"

Feraligatr roared and leapt forward, its arm glowing with a deep green energy. It reared back—

And swung its massive fist down with all its might.

A direct hit.

Everything went still.

The only sound was the thunderous impact as Boldore's body was slammed into the ground creating a deep hole with many cracks in the cave floor. The force sent a wave of dust and loose rock flying in all directions.

For a moment, nothing moved.

And then—

A blinding glow erupted from the crater.

Frank's eyes widened.

The poacher took a stumbling step back.

"Nein, nein, nein," he whispered angrily.

The light grew.

Boldore was evolving.

The cracks across its body sealed themselves.

Its jagged, uneven form began to shift.

The light expanded, stretching into powerful, heavy limbs.

A larger body took shape, glowing with pure energy.

And then, with a final burst of brilliance—

Gigalith emerged.

Frank's phone beeped wildly as it registered Dwayne's evolution and many other changes. He glanced down at the screen, expecting minor stat boosts—

And froze.

"No! Freaking! Way!" he muttered under his breath.

Dwayne had jumped from level 48 to 60 in an instant. His stats had skyrocketed. His defensive power had doubled, his attack stat had surged, and—

He had gained new affinity for fighting-type energy and learned new move, Superpower.

Even more shocking, the move wasn't at level one.

It had instantly leveled up to 34.

Frank's heart pounded. This wasn't just a normal evolution—this was a game-changer.

Dwayne the Boldore knew that the life of his trainer and his friends were at stake and it did the best thing it could do.

The poacher boss was still reeling from the shock of Feraligatr's attack failing to knock Boldore out. His fingers twitched, caught between rage and disbelief.

Frank didn't give him time to recover.

"Quickly, use Tackle and follow up with Heavy Slam!"

And Gigalith moved.

The massive stony beast surged forward, kicking off the cave floor with surprising speed. Thanks to the healing effect of evolution and the triple Rock Polish used earlier, Dwayne moved faster than ever before.

The poacher's eyes widened in alarm.

"Feraligatr, Slash! Now!"

The two Pokémon collided.

Feraligatr's razor-sharp claws met Gigalith's full-body charge.

For a brief moment, they seemed evenly matched. Their power clashed in a brutal struggle, neither backing down.

But then—

Feraligatr began to push forward.

It was slow, but the massive reptile's raw muscle and battle-hardened instincts started to give it the edge. Its claws bit deep into Gigalith's stone body, sparks flying as rock and scale grated against each other.

Frank's heart pounded. He could see the balance shifting.

"Dwayne, pull back!"

At the last possible moment, Gigalith suddenly stepped backward.

Feraligatr's claws slashed through empty air.

For a second, the boss looked triumphant—

Until he realized Gigalith was glowing.

A metallic sheen overtook the Rock-type's entire body, light shimmering along his massive frame as he activated Heavy Slam.

Then—

Gigalith jumped.

High.

Too high for something so massive.

Too unnatural.

The poacher's smirk disappeared.

"What—?"

Gigalith came crashing down.

He slammed into Feraligatr with the force of a meteor.

The impact sent a shockwave through the entire cavern.

A piercing scream tore through the air.

Feraligatr howled in agony, its massive frame crumpling beneath the sheer weight of the attack.

The ground beneath them shook from the sheer force of Gigalith's impact. Dust exploded outward, filling the cave like the aftermath of an earthquake.

And when it cleared—

Feraligatr was on the ground.

It twitched, struggling to rise.

But for the first time in the entire battle—

It looked afraid.

Frank grinned fiercely.

"Not so tough now, are you?"

The poacher staggered back, his confidence crumbling.

But Feraligatr was still not down.

The massive reptilian beast snarled, eyes burning with fury as it lay beneath Gigalith's crushing weight. Its trainer, regaining his composure, barked out a sharp order.

"Whirlpool, now!"

A swirling vortex of water erupted around Feraligatr's body.

Like a cyclone forming from the depths of a storm, the spiraling water expanded in size instantly, trapping Gigalith in a raging aquatic prison.

The water churned violently, battering against Gigalith's rocky frame.

Frank's stomach dropped.

"Dwayne, get out of there!"

Despite his massive size, Gigalith reacted instantly. Using the last remnants of Rock Polish's speed boost, the stone titan leapt away just as the Whirlpool intensified.

The vortex roared like a hurricane, tearing at the cavern walls.

"Power it up and send it against them!" the poacher boss ordered.

Feraligatr let out a feral growl, and the Whirlpool expanded—growing larger, faster, and more unstable.

More water gathered from seemingly nowhere.

The spinning vortex became a raging tidal force, now twisting and lunging toward Gigalith.

Dwayne froze.

For the first time since evolving, fear flashed in its eyes.

The Pokémon instinctively took a step back, uncertain. The sheer volume of water was overwhelming.

And that's when they all forgot about Jake.

Jake's heart was pounding, but he refused to just stand by.

As he watched Feraligatr summon the overwhelming Whirlpool, he turned to Decidueye, his mother's Pokémon.

"Maya, can you help? Feraligatr is a Water-type. I think a Grass attack should work! Can you do something?"

Decidueye stared at the little boy for a moment. Then, understanding his intent, she nodded.

She closed her eyes.

Energy began to swirl around her, a deep, natural force gathering within her feathers.

Then, she let out a soft hoot—a signal for a help.

Charmander understood immediately.

His tiny body glowed with a fiery light, and then—

The fire lizard released a Sunny Day.

The cavern was instantly bathed in an unnatural warmth. The air shimmered, and even the moisture from the Whirlpool began to evaporate creating a mist all over the cave.

Frank blinked in surprise.

"What's going on?"

The poacher's confidence faltered.

"Was ist das?! What trickery is this?!"

The ground beneath them suddenly cracked.

Then—massive roots, thick as tree trunks, burst forth.

They were covered in sharp, gleaming thorns, twisting like living serpents as they shot toward Feraligatr.

"No, no, no!" the poacher boss growled.

The super-effective Frenzy Plant struck with unrelenting force.

The enormous roots wrapped around Feraligatr's body, squeezing tightly and pinning it in place. The swirling Whirlpool collapsed in an instant, the water dispersing into steam under the effects of Sunny Day.

Feraligatr roared in agony. The sharp thorns dug deep into its thick skin, draining away its power and momentum.

"You're awesome, Maya!" Jake exhaled in awe.

Decidueye, breathing heavily, struggled to maintain the powerful move.

Frank, seeing the perfect opportunity, barked his next command.

"Dwayne, prepare another Sandstorm! And Lock On!"

Gigalith roared, summoning another wave of swirling sand. Tiny grains lifted into the air, forming a blinding storm of dust and debris that would obscure their movements.

His eyes flashed.

A glowing red laser sight locked onto Feraligatr, ensuring that the next attack would never miss.

Victory was within reach.

But—

The poacher's laughter echoed through the cave.

"You think it is that easy?"

"Flamethrower!"

A stream of scorching fire erupted from Feraligatr's maw.

The searing flames rushed over the Frenzy Plant, forcing the enchanted roots to recoil in pain and retreat back underground.

Feraligatr was free.

Frank cursed.

He turned toward Jake and Decidueye.

"Maya, save your strength. But listen—you're the one with the best vision and hearing here. Figure out a way out of this cave. They had to come in somehow!"

Decidueye, panting and exhausted, still managed a determined nod.

Her sharp, avian eyes scanned the cavern, her keen senses searching for an escape route.

Frank gritted his teeth, clenching his fists.

"Dwayne… let's attack. Sandstorm, again!"

Gigalith roared as the Sandstorm intensified.

The cavern became a swirling, chaotic battlefield, grains of sand slashing through the air like tiny daggers slashing into Feraligatr's skin.

Gigalith's entire body began to glow.

Its ability, Sand Force, kicked in again—power surging through its rocky frame, amplifying the strength of its attacks.

"Dwayne, Power Gem—now! Give it everything you've got!"

The air around Gigalith crackled as light condensed into a brilliant gemstone-like energy.

Then—

A blinding beam of rock-type energy erupted forward, slicing through the storm like a meteor shower. The Power Gem struck Feraligatr dead-on.

The massive Water-type howled in pain, its body jerking backward from the force of the impact.

The attack had been beyond powerful—enhanced by Sand Force and the sheer determination behind it.

For a moment, Frank thought it was over.

But then—

Feraligatr pushed itself up, eyes burning with defiance.

"What else do we need to do to finish this monster?" Frank's mind was full of despair.

Water surged around its massive jaws as it fired a roaring Hydro Pump.

The jet of water tore through the sandstorm, aiming directly at Gigalith.

"Dwayne, Wide Guard!" Frank yelled.

A shimmering barrier of light formed in front of Gigalith, shielding the Rock-type just as the Hydro Pump collided.

The force was immense—water splashed violently against the protective wall, but the Wide Guard held firm.

"Jake, up there," a voice echoed inside the little boy's head.

Jake startled, then looked at Decidueye.

The large owl was pointing one wing toward the ceiling. There! A hidden opening in the cave's ceiling. It was an escape route.

Jake's mind raced.

"Can you carry both me and Uncle Frank up there?"

Decidueye hesitated for a second, then nodded.

Jake clenched his fists.

"We need a distraction so they don't know where we're going," he muttered.

Then—his eyes fell on Charmander's tail.

The little fire lizard had been frozen in fear, watching the battle unfold.

Jake crouched down and whispered in his ear.

Charmander's eyes widened.

For a moment, the small Pokémon hesitated—then nodded.

Jake stood and grabbed Frank's sleeve, pulling urgently.

"What is it, Jakey?"

Jake explained the plan quickly.

Frank's eyes flickered toward the battlefield, then back to Jake.

It was risky.

But it was worth a shot.

"Okay. Let's do it," Frank agreed.

He turned back to Gigalith.

"Dwayne, another Power Gem! And this time, put everything into it!"

Gigalith's body glowed again. The Wide Guard faded, replaced by an unstoppable surge of energy. Another Power Gem fired—this one even stronger than before.

"Hydro Pump!" the poacher boss roared.

The two attacks met in midair and the resulting explosion was massive. Smoke and dust erupted in every direction, covering the battlefield in thick, choking fog.

But then—something strange happened. The smoke wasn't clearing. It was thicker. Denser. More irritating to breathe. The poacher boss started to cough violently.

"What the hell—?!"

Even Feraligatr wheezed, its massive form hunching over, struggling for air.

"Icy Wind!" the poacher finally choked out.

The exhausted Feraligatr took almost a minute to gather its strength and then a freezing gust started to blow through the cave.

Slowly, the smoke began to clear.

But when it finally faded—

"Wo sind sie?!!!"

The poacher's voice echoed in fury. There was no one there.

The ranger—gone.

The kid with shiny Charmander—gone.

Even the damn Gigalith—gone.

His breath hitched. His teeth clenched in anger.

"Where is that fucking Ranger!?!"

Feraligatr let out a weak, exhausted growl and sat down on its butt breathing in tired demeanor.

If they had just looked up, they would have seen them—

Decidueye soaring quietly through the opening in the cave ceiling, carrying Frank, Jake, and Charmander safely away.
