Chapter 41 - Chapter 41: Electric Fists

After their regular visits to Dr. Crane, life for Jake began to settle into a more familiar rhythm. Returning to school provided a welcome distraction, as his first-grade teacher's colorful lessons demanded most of his focus. Jake found himself absorbed in mastering his letters, numbers, and simple history and geography stories, leaving little room for thoughts of the Distortion World.

At home, his small shiny Charmander was always there to greet him with enthusiastic tail wags and playful chirps. The two would spend hours together, chasing each other in the yard or snuggling on the couch during quiet evenings. Charmander's cheerful energy made it easier for Jake to push aside the darker memories of Giratina's domain.

Eva was also determined to keep her son's spirits high. She had often some games ready for their evenings, from scavenger hunts around the house to building elaborate lego-like block constructions together. Well, Jake mostly like the Jenga game and the family even asked some of the Pokémon to join them. Eva's Venomoth was really precise with her Confusion, so the tower was always growing higher when it was the moth's turn. But others like Charmander were always too eager and usually made the tower collapse.

All those activites helped a lot and Jake was only rarely haunted by nightmares of the Dragonite's death or the strange, shadowy pictures from the Giratina's world.

Today, Jake and his cousin Monika sat on the steps of one the barns, waiting excitedly for their grandfather, Petr Prochazka. Today, as a foreman from the Battle Ranch, he was tasked with fetching Pokémon for the trainers, and he'd promised to take the grandkids along for the ride in his jeep—a thrilling prospect for the two cousins.

With a sigh, Jake confessed, "Mom's been worried crazy lately. She's even sleeping in my bed since... well, since the gym."

Monika rolled her eyes dramatically. "Same here. My mom's been doing it too. I think they're more scared than we are! Or than we were. I'm not scared anymore."

Jake laughed, relieved to share the moment of levity with his cousin.

"I wish school was more like the Ranch," Monika grumbled, kicking at the dirt with her shoe. "Sitting still all day is so boring."

Jake nodded sympathetically. "Yeah, and I wish we were learning more about Pokémon stuff."

"Do you groom Charmander like I showed you?" Monika asked, brightening a little.

"I try," Jake said, glancing at Charmander, who chirped happily, his tail flame flickering with contentment. "But Mom's Sizzlipede, Remy, always sneaks in and tries to steal the spotlight. It's like he's jealous or something."

Monika giggled. "That's because Remy thinks everything is about him. You've got to give him some attention too, or he'll start sulking!"

"Yeah, but Charmander gets upset if I spend too much time with Remy," Jake replied with a dramatic sigh. "It's like having two clingy little brothers."

Their playful banter was interrupted by the rumble of a jeep pulling up the driveway. "There's Grandpa!" Jake exclaimed, jumping to his feet.

Petr waved to them with a broad smile as they jumped up and climbed in the vehicle. "Alright, you two rascals, ready to go and catch some Pokémon?"

As the jeep rumbled down the dirt road, Monika leaned forward, her curiosity getting the better of her. "Grandpa, why do you have so many Pokémon with us today? You used to just go with Rudolf."

Petr sighed, his hands steady on the wheel. "It started with Prince Charles. Before his visit, we had to start with having them with us all the time. And after your little 'adventure' in the distortion world," he glanced briefly at Monika, "I'd rather not take any chances. I want to be sure nothing unexpected happens."

Monika shrugged, waving it off. "I'm fine. You don't need to worry."

Jake, sitting beside her, noticed the faint smile on her face. He could tell she was secretly glad to have the extra companions. He had his own friend, Charmander, sitting contentedly in his lap, his tail flickering in the air.

Rudolf, the Wyrdeer, trotted beside the jeep, his powerful legs carrying him easily along the uneven terrain. His dark brown coat blended seamlessly with the surroundings, while his large antlers, crowned with soft, moss-like growth, caught the sunlight in a dazzling display. Rudolf had earlier sniffed at the Pokéballs in Petr's hands, able to track down the Pokémon inside with ease, his keen sense giving him the right direction to go.

Meanwhile, Jake's little Charmander looked up at the world around him with wide, curious eyes, his fiery tail flickering in the wind. Jake smiled at him, feeling a comforting warmth from his companion.

"They've all got their roles," Petr said as the jeep continued, motioning to the Pokémon. "Silver watches from the air, Laika's fast on the ground, and Rudolf keeps everything organized."

Jake grinned. "Do you think Silver could beat Laika in a race?"

Monika rolled her eyes. "Flying isn't racing, Jake."

Laika barked at them as if to say, Try me!

Their journey deeper into the Ranch felt like an adventure in itself, the Pokémon a constant reminder of the wonders—and the unexpected dangers—that life at Lindenberg Ranch could bring.

As they drove through the vast field, Petr slowed the jeep to a crawl, allowing the children to take in the sights. Pokémon were grazing in the meadow, with a variety of species mixing together. Jake, full of wonder, pointed out each one to Charmander as they passed.

"There's a flock of Pidgey over there!" Jake exclaimed, pointing at the small birds fluttering from tree to tree.

"Look, Charmander! A herd of Miltank," he said, excitedly, as the milk-producing Pokémon lumbered lazily nearby.

Monika followed his gaze and added, "And there's a group of Surskit skating over the pond! They're so fast!"

Jake was thrilled by the diversity of Pokémon, and he continued to point them out to Charmander, who watched with wide eyes, intrigued by the various creatures.

As they neared the edge of the field, Rudolf, Petr's Wyrdeer, began to move toward a large herd of Pokémon. This herd wasn't just made up of one species—it contained a mix of Miltank, Audino, Swinub, and other small Grass-types, grazing peacefully. The largest of the Miltank, however, seemed stubbornly uninterested in moving, despite Wyrdeer's efforts.

Petr sighed. "Some Pokémon are more stubborn than others. Let's try this." With a quick signal, Wyrdeer used Confuse Ray, sending the Miltank into a confused spin. Rudolf's Ghost-type move was enough to disorient the Miltank, allowing Petr to call it back to its Pokéball without further struggle.

"That Miltank's a tough one," Monika remarked.

"Yeah, it wasn't in the mood to cooperate," Jake said, still fascinated by the variety of Pokémon in the herd.

Once the Miltank was secured, Petr turned to Wyrdeer again, letting the Pokémon sniff another Pokéball. Rudolf trotted ahead, the large creature's sharp senses picking up on the scent of another Pokémon nearby.

They drove deeper into the forest, the trees growing taller and denser as they approached a shaded clearing. Along the way, Jake noticed more Pokémon moving through the underbrush: a few Venipede darting between the trees, and some Shroomish nestled in the low foliage, blending into the surroundings.

"Do you see that?" Jake whispered to Charmander. "Those Shroomish look like little mushrooms! I bet they're sleeping."

Monika commented sarcastically. "You're so observant, Jake. It's easy to miss things if you don't pay attention."

"Hey!" Jake protested, but was laughing.

After a short while, they arrived at a forest clearing, where Petr's Wyrdeer moved toward a Leavanny. The Pokémon was gracefully tending to the plants in its territory. Leavanny was a Grass-type with a humanoid insect-like body, large, leaf-like arms that it used to cut and shape the plants. Its body was a soft green, and its eyes were sharp, focused on the task at hand. It seemed to be preparing a patch of flowers before it noticed Rudolf's approach, its attention snapping toward the Pokéball.

Leavanny stretched its arms in anticipation, and with one swift motion, it bounced over towards them, eager to be recalled. Petr quickly secured the Pokémon and sent it back into its Pokéball.

"That Leavanny is so focused," Monika said, impressed.

"Yeah, they're great gardeners," Petr replied, a proud smile on his face.

With the Leavanny secured, they were about to move on when the air suddenly filled with a high-pitched buzzing sound. A swarm of Beedrills descended from the trees, their sharp stingers gleaming menacingly. It was probably the Leavanny's presence that kept them at bay.

"Beedrills!" Monika exclaimed, worried.

"Hold on tight," Petr muttered, his voice tense as he stepped on the gas pedal. The Beedrills swooped toward the jeep, their wings beating furiously. Some of the Pokémon got dangerously close to the vehicle, their stingers aiming for the passengers.

"Look out!" Jake shouted.

Just as one of the Beedrills lunged at them, Laika, the Boltund, leapt from the back of the jeep, her electric fur sparkling. With a quick movement, she used Nuzzle, sending a wave of paralyzing energy at the Beedrills. Several of the attackers jerked, their movements slowed as the electric shock took hold.

Silver, the Unfezant, was also quick to act. With a swift flap of her wings, she used Gust, sending powerful waves of wind-like energy toward the Beedrills. Some of the attacking Pokémon were knocked off course, giving the jeep time to speed away.

The remaining Beedrills hesitated, and Silver used Feather Dance to further confuse and slow them down, making it even harder for the swarm to catch up.

"That was too close!" Monika exclaimed, her heart racing.

Petr took a deep breath and glanced in the rearview mirror. "We're safe for now, thanks to those two."

Laika, satisfied with her work, jumped back into the jeep, her tail wagging excitedly. Silver, soaring above them, flapped her wings steadily, making sure the Beedrills didn't follow them.

"They really saved us," Jake said, smiling at Laika, who was now lying back on the seat, looking proud.

"I'm glad we've got strong Pokémon with us," Monika added, still a little shaken. "Silver's amazing."

"She is," Petr agreed, his eyes returning to the road. "But it's always best to be prepared."

As they drove out of the forest, the sound of buzzing filled the air again—more Beedrills appeared, swarming around and catching up to them with alarming speed.

Laika the Boltund, barked and started charging energy in her body, her electric fur sparking as she sent out a wave of Thunder, but with so many Beedrills closing in, she couldn't take them all down. Silver, too, flapped her wings sending Air Cutters toward the attackers from a distance, but it wasn't enough. Petr's knuckles were white as he gripped the steering wheel.

"They're getting too close!" Jake shouted, his voice panicked.

"It's too many!" Monika cried, gripping the seat as the Beedrills buzzed dangerously near. "Can we fight them?"

With a sudden jolt, the jeep broke free from the forest's edge.

"Now, Silver!" Petr yelled with alarm in his voice.

The Unfezant, seizing the opportunity, flapped her wings powerfully, summoning a massive and super-effective Gust that knocked the Beedrills back into the trees. The move was enough to send the remaining attackers retreating into the forest as the jeep sped away, the noise of their buzzing slowly fading.

"We made it!" Monika gasped, breathless with relief.

Jake wiped his brow. "That was too close..."

Petr exhaled with relief, but his eyes stayed focused on the road. "Good teamwork, Silver, Laika."

The jeep roared out of the forest, leaving behind the buzzing threat of Beedrill. Jake leaned back, catching his breath while Charmander chirped happily from his lap. Monika stared out the window, watching Silver glide back to perch near the jeep. Petr, steering with a steady hand, glanced at the kids.

"Well, that was close," he said with a small chuckle. "But we've got another stop ahead."

Petr reached out his hand with a Pokéball and Rudolf trotted closer. The Pokémon sniffed at the ball in its trainer hand and then started galloping back towards the headquarters.

As the jeep followed Rudolf and bounced over a dirt path, the landscape opened into vast fields, their golden-green grass shimmering under the sun. Jake's eyes lit up as he pointed excitedly to the Pokémon scattered across the expanse.

"Look, guys! There's another Miltank! And a Bouffalant!"

Charmander craned its neck, squeaking in agreement, its tail flame flickering with enthusiasm.

Monika joined in, giggling. "That's a whole herd of Mareep over there!"

Petr nodded. "This area is perfect for grazing Pokémon. Each species has its spot, but they all coexist well. It's a good system."

As the jeep trundled over the bumpy terrain, Jake leaned forward, curiosity sparkling in his eyes. "Grandpa, what kind of Pokémon are we picking up this time?"

Petr glanced at him with a grin. "We're heading to the power plant to pick up a Bellibolt."

"Bellibolt?" Jake and Monika exchanged puzzled looks. "What's that?" Monika asked, tilting her head.

"It's an Electric-type," Petr explained. "Kind of round, with smooth skin. What's interesting is it has bumps on its head that look like eyes, but those aren't its real eyes."

Jake's jaw dropped. "Fake eyes? You're kidding, right?"

"Yeah, Grandpa," Monika added, giggling. "That sounds like one of your jokes."

Petr chuckled. "I'm serious. The fake eyes are a way to confuse predators. They glow when it's about to attack, making it look bigger and more intimidating. The real eyes are smaller, right in the middle of its face."

Jake squinted, trying to imagine it. "That's so weird… so its head-glow is a trick?"

"Exactly," Petr said. "Nature can be clever like that. Bellibolt might look funny, but it's tough."

Monika scrunched her nose. "That sounds weird. Is it like a Palpitoad? Maybe it's Water-type?"

Petr shook his head. "It does look a bit like one, but Bellibolt is Electric-type. And what makes Bellibolt special is its ability, Electromorphosis," Petr continued. "When it gets hit, it absorbs the energy and charges itself up. Then it uses that energy to make its next Electric attack stronger."

Jake furrowed his brow. "So it gets stronger when it's hurt?"

Petr laughed. "Exactly! Imagine if Charmander got a brighter tail every time it got hit by a water balloon. That's how Bellibolt works."

Charmander chirped in understanding, wagging its tail. Monika leaned forward, intrigued. "So, it's like storing power for later?"

Petr nodded. "You've got it."

Monika frowned in thought. "Does it always have that ability? Or can it have something else?"

"Well," Petr said, "some Bellibolt have Static, which might paralyze Pokémon that touch them, or Damp, which stops explosive moves like Self-Destruct from working."

"Hmm…" Monika crossed her arms. "Those sound kind of boring compared to that Electro... stuff."

"Maybe," Petr replied, "but Static and Damp can be lifesavers in the right situation. That's what makes each Pokémon unique—different abilities for different challenges."

As the conversation unfolded, Laika perked up, her ears twitching. The Boltund barked excitedly, clearly aware they were heading toward the power plant. She wagged her tail, electricity sparking faintly in anticipation.

"She's excited," Monika said with a laugh, pointing at Laika. "Do you think she knows we're picking up an Electric-type?"

"Most likely," Petr replied. "Electric Pokémon can sense electricity and therefore sometimes even each other. Laika probably feels at home heading to the power plant."

Charmander, curled in Jake's lap, tilted its head and let out a curious chirp, its tail flame flickering. "Don't worry, buddy," Jake said, scratching its head. "I bet you'll like Bellibolt too."

As the power plant's towering structure came into view, Rudolf, leading the way, came to a sudden stop. The Wyrdeer snorted and pawed the ground, its antlers glowing faintly.

"What's wrong, Rudolf?" Petr asked, his tone growing serious.

"Look, guys!" Jake shouted, pointing ahead. "There's a big group of Pokémon over there!"

Monika squinted. "Why are they all gathered like that?"

Petr's face hardened as he slowed the jeep. "That doesn't look good. Stay close, kids."

With the hum of tension in the air, the trio prepared to face whatever awaited near the power plant.

The jeep crept forward cautiously, the hum of the engine barely audible over the nervous shuffling of the gathered Pokémon. Petr squinted, trying to make sense of the scene ahead, while Rudolf, Silver, and Laika remained tense, sensing the charged atmosphere.

As they neared, Jake leaned forward, peering through the windshield. "Grandpa, what's going on? Why are there so many Pokémon here?"

"It looks like... two groups," Petr muttered, slowing the jeep further. "Stay quiet for now."

On the left stood a cluster of Fighting-types, their powerful forms radiating tension. A Hitmonlee flexed its long, sinewy legs, ready to spring into action. Nearby, a Machoke clenched its fists, its muscled frame taut. A Medicham sat in a meditative pose, eyes closed but clearly alert, while a muscular Pangoro stood at the back, gnawing on a bamboo shoot and glaring at the opposing side.

To the right was a group of Electric-types, their sparking bodies buzzing with energy. A Manectric growled lowly, arcs of electricity dancing around its fur. An Electrode rolled back and forth impatiently, its surface crackling. A Heliolisk flared the frill around its neck, the bright patterns warning others to stay away. Behind them, a Magnezone hovered silently, its magnets pulsing with energy.

"Grandpa, look at all of them!" Monika whispered, pointing at the groups. "What are they doing?"

"They must be for some reason," Petr said, gripping the wheel tightly. "See how they're all looking at the middle? Something's happening in there."

Jake's eyes widened. "Can we see? Please, Grandpa?"

Petr hesitated, his face a mix of concern and reluctance. "This isn't a zoo, Jake. If things go wrong, we'll be caught in the middle."

"But we'll be careful, right?" Monika insisted, her voice filled with curiosity.

With a resigned sigh, Petr nodded. "Fine, but we keep our distance. And you two stay in the jeep. No exceptions."

He glanced at his Pokémon. "Rudolf, Silver, Laika—stay on guard. And prepare some moves. If this goes south, we're leaving fast."

Rudolf's antlers glowed faintly, readying a Psychic attack. Silver spread its wings, the tips shimmering with energy for a Gust. Laika growled softly, sparks flickering along its fur as it prepared an electric charge.

As the jeep rolled closer, the scene at the heart of the gathering became clear. In the middle of the two groups was a wide, empty circle. At its center, a Primeape and an Ampharos faced each other in a tense standoff.

The Primeape's fur bristled, its fists clenched tight as it panted heavily. Its angry eyes burned with determination, and its headband-like fur fluttered slightly in the breeze. Every movement it made was sharp and deliberate, revealing years of combat experience.

Opposite it, the Ampharos stood tall and calm, its sleek, yellow body dotted with bright red orbs that pulsed faintly with electricity. Its tail glowed, casting light onto the ground, and its sharp, calculating gaze was locked onto the Primeape.

"Wow…" Jake breathed. "They look so strong."

"They're not just strong," Petr said quietly, his voice edged with unease. "They're also experienced. Very skilled."

"My Pokémon wouldn't stand a chance against either of them," he thought, but kept it for himself in order not to scare the kids.

"Why are they fighting?" Monika asked, leaning closer to the windshield.

"I don't know," Petr admitted. "But whatever it is, it's serious enough to stop two entire groups of Pokémon in their tracks."

The jeep came to a halt a safe distance away, the tension in the air thick enough to cut with a Scyther's scythe. The Fighting-types and Electric-types shifted uneasily, some glancing back at the humans and Pokémon approaching.

Jake looked up at his grandfather. "Are we safe here?"

Petr glanced nervously at the gathered Pokémon. "As long as we stay out of their way... maybe. But we need to be ready to leave at any moment."

The trio watched, captivated yet anxious, as the Primeape and Ampharos exchanged blows in their intense, silent battle.

The battle unfolded like a scene from a high-stakes action movie. Primeape lunged first, its fists glowing with Close Combat. It delivered a flurry of punches that forced Ampharos to backpedal, its body absorbing the blows with remarkable resilience. The Electric Pokémon retaliated with a Thunder Punch, its electrified fist crackling as it connected with Primeape, sending sparks flying and forcing the Fighting-type to leap back.

Primeape roared in defiance and spun into a Seismic Toss, grabbing Ampharos and hurling it into the air. Ampharos countered mid-flight, releasing a dazzling Thunderbolt that illuminated the battlefield and forced Primeape to dodge, the ground where it had stood scorched and smoking.

"Grandpa! Look at that!" Jake exclaimed, wide-eyed, leaning toward the jeep door. Charmander mimicked Jake's awe, its tail flame flickering brighter with excitement.

"Stay inside, Jake!" Petr said firmly, his voice carrying a warning edge. "This is not a game."

Primeape charged forward with Brick Break, its fists striking with tremendous force, but Ampharos met it head-on, generating a Power Gem. The burst of light and energy sent shockwaves through the ground, shaking nearby Pokémon and even the jeep.

Monika clutched the seat. "Grandpa, why are they fighting so hard?"

"Because this isn't about play. It's a battle for dominance," Petr explained, his grip tightening on the steering wheel. "And we don't want to be caught in the middle."

Primeape pivoted with astonishing speed, its Low Kick catching Ampharos off guard and causing it to stumble. Ampharos recovered swiftly, however, summoning a Dragon Pulse. The purple energy wave surged forward, forcing Primeape to leap high to avoid it.

"Whoa!" Jake yelled, pressing his face to the glass. "Did you see that, Grandpa? That was amazing!"

"Jake, I mean it—stay inside!" Petr barked, his worry evident.

Charmander chirped, its small claws pressing against the glass too, as if urging Jake to open the door. Petr glanced back at them. "Charmander, no. This is no place for you either."

The battle escalated as Ampharos launched a sudden Thunder Wave, the electricity crackling around Primeape and slowing its movements. The Fighting-type snarled in frustration, momentarily hindered by the paralysis. Seizing the opportunity, Ampharos reared back, gathering an immense amount of electrical energy, and unleashed a devastating Thunder down from the sky. The blinding flash and deafening roar shook the ground, forcing Primeape to stagger under the assault.

However, the attack triggered Primeape's Anger Point ability. Its body trembled with fury, and its eyes glowed with unrelenting rage. Roaring ferociously, it clenched its fists, charging them with power, and began delivering back-to-back Focus Punch strikes. The first blow hit Ampharos squarely, pushing it back into the ground, while the second and third sent shockwaves through the area, scattering smaller Pokémon on both sides.

"Grandpa, it's going crazy!" Jake cried with wide eyes, holding Charmander tightly, the little Pokémon chirping in alarm.

Petr nodded grimly. "It's not just angry—it's in a state where every attack is devastating. This is bad."

Ampharos tried to counter, its movements sluggish from the successive blows. It attempted another Thunderbolt, but Primeape darted in with relentless speed, dodging the attack and delivering another crushing Focus Punch to Ampharos's side. Dust and sparks filled the air as the two titans continued their intense duel, each strike shaking the ground and captivating the onlookers.

Petr's face was tense as he murmured, "If this keeps up, they'll both tear each other apart."

The Ampharos, realizing the ferocity of Primeape's relentless blows, changed tactics. It unleashed Cotton Spore, sending fluffy spores into the air that clung to Primeape's fur, significantly slowing the furious Pokémon. Taking advantage of the reduced speed, Ampharos activated Electric Terrain, the ground beneath it sparking with energy, boosting its Electric-type moves.

Empowered, Ampharos fired a charged Thunderbolt followed by Electro Web, the electric net crackling as it surrounded Primeape. The Fighting-type roared in defiance, summoning sharp stone pillars with Stone Edge to shatter the incoming attacks. Sparks flew as the stones absorbed the electricity, and the battlefield was alight with energy.

Ampharos pressed on, now charged with the terrain's energy, sending bolt after bolt toward its opponent. Primeape, though slowed, dodged and blocked with fierce determination.

Monika clutched Petr's arm. "They're not holding back, Grandpa. It's scary."

Petr nodded. "This is no ordinary fight. These two are on another level."

Jake, eyes wide with excitement, pointed. "Charmander, look at that! They're so strong!"

As the effect of Cotton Spore wore off, Primeape regained its speed and closed the gap. The two Pokémon met in the middle of the circle with an explosive clash: Ampharos used Supercell Slam, channeling the energy from the terrain into a powerful electric-infused tackle. Primeape countered with Stomping Tantrum, stomping the ground with enough force to send a shockwave and debris flying, meeting Ampharos's charge head-on.

The impact was immense, throwing up a cloud of dust and scattering sparks. When the dust settled, both Pokémon were panting heavily, their gazes locked as they assessed one another.

"They're going to keep going," Petr said with a worried glance. "This isn't over."

The tension rose as both began preparing their final moves. Primeape started gathering a bright, crackling sphere of energy for Focus Blast, its growls resonating with determination. Meanwhile, Ampharos charged a glowing orb for Zap Cannon, the electricity around it intensifying as the Electric Terrain powered it further.

"Look at that!" Jake exclaimed, leaning forward. "They're charging up for something big!"

Monika gripped her seat, her nervousness evident. "Grandpa, maybe we should leave…"

Petr's jaw tightened. "Not yet. We can't risk moving now—it could set them off. But be ready, kids. This is about to get intense."

As the fierce battle continued, Jake and Charmander were entranced by the power on display, but Monika, ever observant, looked around. "Look guys, look at the other Pokémon!" she exclaimed, pointing out the nervous expressions on the faces of the other Pokémon in both groups.

They were tense, watching the battle with apprehension, clearly not wanting to be part of the chaos. The ground rumbled from another massive clash between Focus Blast and Zap Cannon, sending a shockwave through the air. In the aftermath, a small Pachirisu was hurled from the battle, its tiny form spinning toward them.

Rudolf the Wyrdeer reacted instinctively, using Psychic to catch the squirrel-like Pokémon mid-air, gently lowering it to the ground. It looked hurt, but not seriously. Jake rushed to it, eager to help and take it to the Pokémon Center.

"Jake!" Petr yelled after him, but the small boy was not hearing anything right now, his focus was on the injured creature.

As soon as his hand touched the Pachirisu, though, Jake froze, feeling the deep frustration emanating from the small Electric-type. It was more than just pain—there was an overwhelming sense of conflict, anger, and confusion.

As he was communicating with the small injured creature, his grandfather Petr and his cousin Monika holding Charmander rushed to Jake's side.

"Grandpa... there's something wrong," Jake murmured, concentrating on the thoughts of the Pachirisu. "It says... both of them—Ampharos and Primeape—used to be friends, but something happened between them."

Monika's brow furrowed in confusion. "What happened? Why are they fighting?"

Jake focused again, interpreting the Pachirisu's emotions. "The Fighting-types were living near the power plant before. But then... the Mareep, a big herd, appeared here."

Petr remarked. "Yeah, the herd was saved from poachers and brought to the Ranch. Go on, Jakey."

"The Fighting-types didn't like it, they wanted to stay in their favourite area. Ampharos—it's been protecting the Electric-types. It didn't want to lose the power plant to the Fighting-types."

Petr rubbed his chin, understanding dawning. "So Primeape's group didn't want to give up the power plant because it was their home?"

Jake nodded, the frustration and sadness still palpable in the Pachirisu's thoughts. "Yeah. It was their turf... and now everything's messed up."

Monika bit her lip. "So... it's not just about the fight?"

"No," Jake answered, holding the Pachirisu close. "It's about... about space. The Fighting-types feel like they're being pushed out."

Petr scratched his head thoughtfully, eyeing the scene of tension. "Maybe the Fighting-types could relocate to one of the new large barns on the Ranch," he said. "They were built to house some of the dragon-types from the royal guards, so there's plenty of space... but persuading them to leave the power plant won't be easy."

Monika smirked, looking at Jake. "Well, we've got a 'Pokémon whisperer' with us."

Jake blinked, not getting it. "Huh?"

Before Petr could explain his idea about barn further, a Raichu emerged from the crowd of Electric-types, worry etched across its face as it ran toward them, its eyes fixed on the injured Pachirisu.

"Monika, you were right with the whisperer thing. Jakey, try explain the idea with the free barn to it." Petr encouraged his grandson.

"Come here fella. We want to tell you something." Petr lured the Raichu closer.

The Pokémon was initially reluctant, but seeing that the group of people was not hurting its friend Pachirisu, it took another step closer.

"Can I touch you, Raichu? I need to tell you something," Jake said with a worry in his voice.

The mouse-like creature hesitated but then stepped closer to the young boy.

"Careful, Jake." Monika whispered as Jake reached out his hand towards the large electric rodent.

Jake gently placed his hand on the Raichu, focusing on the feeling of frustration that still lingered from the earlier battle. His expression softened as he concentrated, conveying to the Electric-type the plan his grandfather had in mind. He felt the electric pulse of the Raichu's thoughts shift, and after a few seconds, the Pokémon darted back toward the Electric-types with a determined look.

"What's going on? What did you tell it?" Monika asked.

"Just what grandpa said." Jake replied.

"So why did it run away?" Petr frowned.

"I don't know." Jake shook his head.

But after a few moments they could see the Raichu emerge from the crowd and it was accompanied by a orange, stout, bipedal, rodent-like Pokémon.

Monika turned to Petr, "What's going on?"

Petr nodded thoughtfully, watching as Raichu returned with a Pawmo. "Well, Pawmo is both Electric and Fighting-type. It could work as an negotiator."

Jake, confused but trusting, was directed by Petr to relay the idea to the Pawmo as well. As Jake touched the Pokémon and explained the idea both by speech and by thoughts, Pawmo seemed to nod seriously before turning back toward the crowd.

In the next few moments, Pawmo returned, this time accompanied by three notable Fighting-types: a Machoke, a Hitmontop, and a Makuhita. The Machoke was flexing its muscles in a confident manner, the Hitmontop was jumping from one feet to another energetically, and the Makuhita, with its round body and determined eyes, looked ready for any challenge.

They all looked with curious interest at the humans.

"Explain it to them, please." Petr told him.

"Again?" Jake sighed, a little irritated that he had to explain the same thing over and over.

But after Monika gave him a nudge, he repeated the offer to relocate his grandpa had mentioned, albeit a bit hesitantly.

With a nod, Raichu and Pawmo moved off to one side, and the trio of Fighting-types followed suit. The two groups, one of Electric-types and the other of Fighting-types, separated as they began to explain the plan to the rest of the two crowds, creating a temporary truce with the possibility of relocation hanging in the air.

As the battle between Ampharos and Primeape slowly wound down, the tension in the air began to lower. Both Pokémon were totally exhausted, their movements sluggish and disoriented. Petr observed, "They're too tired, and they need treatment."

Monika suggested, "Let's call the Pokémon Centre so they can pick them up." Petr quickly dialed the number, and within moments, Rachel appeared brought by Patrick the Starmie and accompanied by Chimeco.

"Mom! You're here!" Monika called out, waving as she ran over.

Rachel hugged her and gave them a teasing smile. "What did you get yourselves into this time, huh? I can already tell by the look of you two—looks like trouble."

She noticed the exhausted Pokémon—Primeape and Ampharos—on the ground, clearly drained from their battle. Her eyes softened, but she rolled them in exasperation. "Well, well. You two are going to be in for a long night at the Pokémon Center."

Her Chimeco, a soft blue Pokémon with a round body, long ribbon-like appendages, and a bell-shaped structure, floated beside her. It chirped in greeting before using Yawn on the tired fighters, putting both to sleep in an instant. Her Starmie, gleaming with a brilliant star-like body in pink and purple hues, hovered by her side, ready for whatever Rachel needed.

"Good job, Chimeco," Rachel said with a satisfied nod, and she turned to Patrick, "Ready for the next step?"

"Wait, auntie!" Jake called as Starmie's gem began to glow.

"What is it?" she motioned for Patrick to wait and turned to her nephew with a curious expression.

"This Pachirisu... it is hurt and..."

"Oh, okay. Good call, Jakey. Hand it to me," she winked at him and reached out to take the injured Pokémon.

"Let's go. Bye, gang!" she waved her hand.

Once Starmie managed to teleport Rachel, Chimeco, Pachirisu, Primeape, and Ampharos away, the remaining Pokémon looked around in confusion, their tension suddenly breaking. The Fighting-types and Electric-types, no longer preoccupied with the battle, began to act in unpredictable ways—some pacing back and forth, others chattering, unsure of what had just happened. The change in atmosphere was noticeable, and the uneasy group became a mix of nervous energy.

Petr stood tall, gathering his composure, then addressed the Pokémon. "Calm down, everyone," he said firmly. "The Fighting-types will head over to the barns for now, and the Electric-types can return to the power plant. There's no need to panic."

Laika the Boltund stood by his side, letting out a commanding Hyper Voice, its powerful sound ringing through the air. It was enough to capture the attention of every Pokémon in the area. Petr continued, "You've got to stick to the plan. You know what to do."

Slowly, the Fighting-types began to leave, one by one. Some looked confused, but many, especially those three who had communicated with Jake earlier, understood what was happening and began heading toward the barn area. Petr made a quick phone call to Angie, another foreman, to inform her of the situation and prepare for the arrival of the group.

Monika watched Jake intently as the last of the Pokémon started to leave. She grinned and gave her cousin a pat on the shoulder. "You did great with all that talking," she said. "You're cool, Jake."

Jake smiled, though he was still a little shy. "I just helped... I didn't think it would all work out like that."

But Monika, her face full of pride, just elbowed him. "Well, it did, so you should be proud."

Petr nodded approvingly, too, and as they watched the Pokémon scatter, the tension finally began to dissipate, leaving a quiet peace in its place.

Petr nudged Wyrdeer, reminding him to keep searching for Bellibolt. With a half-annoyed snort, Wyrdeer moved toward the Electric-types, effortlessly locating the large green Pokémon among the group.

"Hey, Bellibolt. You're going back to your trainer. Ready?" Petr greeted the Pokémon, which nodded and grumbled with excitement before being recalled into its Pokéball.

"Great, everyone," Petr said, turning to his grandkids and Pokémon. "Now, let's head to the last destination."

"And what's that?" Monika asked.

"We need to find a Raboot," Petr replied as they all climbed back into the jeep. Laika happily jumped into the back seat, her tongue hanging out in joy. Monika patted the Boltund's head, while Jake leaned forward eagerly, his eyes sparkling as he replayed the events of the battle in his head.

"Primeape was so strong! And Ampharos with that big Thunder attack—it was like, BOOM! I want Charmander to get that strong someday!" Jake said, bouncing in his seat.

Monika, sitting beside him, gave a small shrug. "Yeah, but now they're both hurt. I hope Mom doesn't have to stay up all night taking care of them." She crossed her arms and frowned. "She already works too hard."

Jake tilted his head, his enthusiasm dampening slightly. "But Pokémon get better at the Pokémon Center, right? Auntie's great at fixing them. It'll be okay, won't it?"

Petr glanced at them through the rearview mirror, his voice calm and reassuring. "They'll be fine. Your mom's handled plenty of tougher cases. Ampharos and Primeape just need some rest. And maybe fix a few broken bones, but that's it."

Monika sighed, then brightened. "Maybe I can help Mom when we get back."
