Kelly was really not feeling her best right now. "Spinel, listen to me, if you go through with this, you'll regret it for the rest of your life." She pleaded.
"Oh no no no … you see, I know this is wrong. I came here with the complete intent of unleashing my anger on a bunch of strangers." Spinel growled darkly as she looked down, making her grip tighter. "But now that I got to know you guys personally, I hate you all like you wouldn't believe."
Well that was a bit unsettling to hear in person. "So what, you're just going to kill everyone and be alone anyway?"
"Exactly. If I'm alone either way, I'm taking you all down as well …" They looked at her. "Plus I really wanna kill Steven, he acts just like Pink did." Their face got darker. "Manipulative liars that just want their own happiness with friends of their choice."
"If that's what you got after spending a day with him, then you didn't learn jack shit about us." Kelly rolled her eyes. "You have no idea how much he's sacrificed his own happiness time and time again. You know what your problem is, you crazed rubber hose maniac?"
"Oh, what, that I'm lonely? That I need to get over myself and just be happy being alone?" The gem pulled her closer. "That I need to accept that I've gone too far and the only way to pay for my sins is to break myself into shards and fly into the sun?"
"Seriously, you got to be the bleakest gem I've ever met." That was saying something especially with Lapis's sense of humor. "You care about no one but yourself. It's YOUR happiness that matters, no one else's. You don't want friends. You just want a living body pillow that tells you good job and pats you on the head for the simplest things." She narrowed her gaze into the mad gem's eyes. "You can't live without other people telling you you matter every five seconds."
Spinel stared at Kelly, slowly squeezing tighter. "Forget Steven watching, I want you gone now."
Oh come on, she tries to take the high road and talk to the enemy, and THIS is the thanks she gets, Universe!? "KELLY!" … Okay, nevermind. You do you, mysterious ways of the world. She turned her attention to her boyfriend…and he looked like a complete wreck. The bags under his eyes had grown bigger and darker, the sweat was more pronounced, and he was breathing like he was going to fall over dead any second. "Spinel….we need to stop this..right now."
"Aww, and we were just getting to the fun part."
Steven rolled his eyes and groaned. "This….ISN'T A GAME!" Spinel responded with a giant fist to his face, making blood leak from his nose.
"But watching you suffer is the best!!" And launched it at him off the injector, only to grab him by the collar of his jacket by two fingers. "When life gets you down, all you can do is wallow or laugh, so we might as well do the latter!"
"OH COME ONE!" Steven shouted in the air. "WHY AREN'T MY POWERS BACK!?
"Because I hit you with the rejuvenator, adoy." Spinel rolled her eyes as Kelly tried to struggle … fuck, was this what it was like to be a damsel in distress like Marco?
"No, this entire day, I've been living out every SINGLE HORRIBLE experience I've ever been through." Steven screamed. "My life is in danger, everyone I know is about to die, my powers are constantly falling, the world's about to end, my mom's problems are haunting me, and I'm about to be killed by some gem I barely know! That is literally the entire story of Steven Universe!"
Spinel looked at him for five seconds…and laughed. "You know, for a guy that preaches about others, you sure love telling them all about how miserable your life is." Spinel grinned. "I mean, this whole plan hinged on me setting you back to square one … but THIS is how you started!?" She laughed more and more maniacally. "The supposed legend? Steven Universe? How did someone as pathetic as you become the savior of the galaxy!?"
"He didn't do it alone for one!" She chimed in. "And he grew up, unlike you!" Kelly shouted in anger.
"I … grew up …" Steven muttered. "I changed …"
"What?" Spinel looked confused.
"I….Whenever I was faced with a problem, I had to push through it. And when I failed…I realized I needed to change." Steven's eyes were lighting up in realization. "Oh my Corn, I can't believe it! I chastised Homeworld and Mewni about their stagnation…but me…constantly wanting a happily ever after … I was stagnating!"
"What?!" Spinel growled.
"This entire time, these past two years … I forget about the first power I had … the power I had long before exploding bubbles and shields … the power everyone has … I have the power to CHANGE!"
"Oh, like I'm going to take that load of…!" Spinel let go of her boyfriend, but in the midst of Steven falling, he stopped in mid air as the light in his gem began to glow. "You guys pull out too many lucky charms in succession." She muttered under her breath, before tossing Kelly away. "Fine then, let's go at it one last time while the world fades away!"
Kelly stopped her fall by pulling out her sword and stabbing it into the ground, preventing it from making her slide away. "Steven!" She ran up and hugged her boyfriend, looking much more energized and battle ready.
"Kelly, glad you're alright." Steven smiled before turning to their enemy. "Something tells me I can't tell you to get to safety."
"Not this time." She said, gazing at the cackling yet enraged Spinel. "This time I'm going to save a gem for a change …"
"That's the thing, Kelly." He looked ahead. "We don't redeem gems, we don't just make gems good…we talk to them, we listen to them, we do what we can to help." He married his gaze. "Them turning a new leaf…that's all up to them."
"You're totally going to sing another song, aren't you?" She smirked.
"It's been a music-filled day, what can I say?" Her boyfriend's optimism was back….oh how she missed it.
========================================================================
Spinel spun around, building up momentum as she threw punches like they were buzzsaws as she hit against the pink shield. So what if Steven got his powers back, he was still going to die when the injector killed off everything. All she needed to do was run out the clock until the bio-poison destroyed the earth. The only question in her mind was whether or not she would have the patience to not kill him before then.
"It's hopeless! No matter what, everything you know is going to perish!" Spinel's fists kept bouncing off that stupid shield as she avoided swings from Kelly's sword. "It doesn't matter, powers or no powers, WE'LL ALL GOING TO DIE!"
"Maybe. Or there's the hidden third option." He calmly said as he licked his thumb, rubbing it against his nose to stop the bleeding.
"Oh, you may have been born under the luckiest star in the universe, but even you can't pull off miracles!" Spinel growled. Well, besides all the ones he already pulled. "What can you possibly do now?"
"I can make a promise … I can make a plan." Oh great, more singing, as if they hadn't done that enough today. "I can make a difference … I can take a stand." He stomped his foot as she continued to attack, if only to shut him up, stretching her arm around to try and hit him from behind.
"I can make an effort." Spinel's hand was met with a large barrier he created without even turning his head, looking at her head on, face to face. "If I only understand…."
She enlarged her fist slightly again, and prepared to wipe the smug expression off his face. "That I…." Her fist was met with a bubbled one, Steven still remaining calm. "I can make a change."
Their fists continued to collide, no matter how fast or rapidly she made them, he continued to match her blow for blow. Even when she morphed into a tornado, his shield was still able to counter every attack.
"Oh wouldn't you just shut up for one second!" She pounded the ground to make these two annoyances bounce back just a little bit. "You can't possibly know what it's been like for me these past six thousand years!"
"I know that it's a challenge…I know this is hard." Even the bushy girl was in on it now, trying to hold her down with that stretchy hair instead of that sword, like she SHOULD be. "I know all of your pain…and why you've come this far" She wasn't there, she didn't know. She couldn't comprehend an eternity of living as a lonely punchline!
"I know that I can reach you! If you open up your heart!" She went in to head butt the talking tree, only to be met halfway with the girl's own. Okay, hair should NEVER be that hard! Was this girl's skull made out of steel or something!?
"It's up to you!" Kelly's hand was still trying to reach out to her. Spinel responded by trying to bite it off, and was met with a kick to the face that had her neck looping in knots as a result. "You can make a change!"
She can make a change?! SHE CAN MAKE A CHANGE!? After trying to blow up an entire planet and creating the worst day of this 'hero's' life, they had to gall to say she HADN'T crossed the uncrossable line!? After going so far!?
"Easy for you to say…!" Great, now she was stuck singing. Stupid musical idiots. "You never had to watch them all drift away!" Even now with the world crumbling around them, these morons still had each other while she had nobody! She lost the only person in her life that gave her meaning while Steven Universe got to have EVERYBODY love him!
"And now this is my curse. Cause whenever I change, I change for the worse." She just got more and more mad, and hate filled, and vengeful, and it hurt to see others smile when she couldn't.
"I don't know why you're trying, this is the way I feel." Vengeful and spiteful, and unrelenting loathing to everything. "And you can't change my mind, with some redundant spiel."
She was tired of hearing these constantly going on and on about 'improvement', so she grabbed the two little buggers as she twirled them around and around. "You want a happy ending? Well, here's mine!" An ending where they all went splat after a long fall from the sky, to be demonstrated as she threw the high in the air.
Spinel launched herself in the sky to get the personal satisfaction of seeing the very second they got turned into pasty star dust…only to be stunned by the complete absence of the two brats, and instead one taller person with longer and bushier looking hair.
"Where the heck did the two chumps go!?" She shouted in frustration.
"You're looking at them, and we have some words to say!" They shouted, floating up as they began glowing pink. "You can make a difference …" Oh screw right off. More singing AND fusion!? Were they trying to rub their happiness in her face!?
"You can make it right …" The fusion looked at them, looking so happy and content with their existence as they continued to look at them all hopefully and pleading. "You can make it better!" HOW!? Who in their conceivable mind would ever believe someone like her can be better after all of this! "We don't have to fight!"
The fusion just floated all relaxed like as they basked in the light of Earth's two moons, looking like they could lay in the air all day as Spinel continued to rise above them just ever so slightly. "You can make an effort! Starting with tonight….!"
Spinel just raised her hands above her head as she enlarged her fist to the biggest it could go, making her arm's spring like to give it some extra power. "Cause you …." They looked at her with wide eyes. "You can make a change."
"Can it, will you!?" She screamed at them as she pointed her fast at them like a cannon. "You just can't make everything better by signing some STUPID song!" She knocked them down, screaming as the glass under the fusion cracked.
========================================================================
It's been a good while since Kurtz was on earth. Most of their time was spent in the Neverzone, free to act as they wanted, fight bad guys without remorse … and take a couple of hugs from Brunzetta here and there … Not the time! Right, right, focus on the killer gem now, think about convincing the two in her head to agree to a three way later. Seriously!?
Luckily, thanks to their extra strengthened and moldable hair, taking the brunt of Spinel's attack was actually pretty easy. A bit too easy, to the point it was less threatening and reason for fear, and more pitiful and reason for guilt … especially considering the words.
"You're lying, you're lying, you're lying!" They shouted. "I can't be better!" Spinel screamed as they banged against the shield. "When you change it for the better, when I do it it's for the worse!"
"Oh, you think these two haven't made mistakes before? Believe me when I say I know full well how much Steven and Kelly screw up." Kurtz kept the shield up. "It got so bad that I refused to exist for a while. I didn't think it was possible for either of them to change how they acted." Kurtz calmly explained as the cracks around them got bigger. "But they got better, so I was able to give the whole existing thing another shot."
"They had friends, they had people to care about them, they had just one person to talk to!" She shouted. "They don't even want to be around me when I try to offer everything to help …"
"Who said they didn't want you around?" Kurtz asked. "Did Steven say that, or is that what you WANT him to say?" They continued to press forward when she managed to pause for a second. "Is the world really out to get you, or are you attacking them so they don't even get the chance to hurt you on the possibility they don't like you?"
"Stop it, stop it, stop it …" They cried. "I can't change … even at my best I wasn't good enough for PINK!" The pounding got harder and harder. "… nobody cared to remember me … Not even the Pearl she had with her!" The pounded even harder as Kurtz felt themselves sink a little into the ground. "And now…." She enlarged her fist again, and brought them down on the shield with a thunderous boom. "NOW I'M NOT GOOD AT ALL!"
Kurtz waited a moment. "I'm not good either." They dropped the shield. "I tried to poof their acquaintances, I tried to stab their distant family, and I emotionally manipulated my two parts to stay together forever." Spinel looked at them shocked. "I was so angry at them for the longest while…but when you push everyone away…the only one that's left is yourself…and being alone with yourself…nothing but your own thoughts…that's a terrifying reality to face."
Spinel got on her knees and began sobbing in between the midst of broken laughter. "Heh…heh…guess…guess we're just that broken…aren't we….?" Spinel laughed.
"Yep … but we can try fixing it." She hugged the gem. "And we may not hang out … but trust me when I say no one's gonna forget you."
"I…I know it's messed up…but…when I got hit with the rejuvenator….I got to experience happiness for the first time in years…" Spinel continued to sob. "Do you…did…did any part of Steven like me?"
"He's wanted to help you since the moment he met you." Kurtz confirmed. "Even when he doesn't always succeed, he never stops trying…none of them will."
"And … and do they not want me around?" She asked.
"They have a lot of responsibility … they wouldn't be able to play all the time." Kurtz responded. "He has a lot of friends, a lot of family…they're all important to him." They explained.
"I…I…" Spinel cried even harder. "I was made to be a friend…" Spinel cried as Kurtz finally dropped the shield, hugging the gem as tightly as they could. "I just want to be your friend…"
"You don't have to be my friend … the multiverse is infinite … there's an infinite number of friends you can meet." Kurtz rubbed her head. "Don't think that nobody out there wouldn't need a friend just as much as you do."
Spinel looked at them with beady and sad eyes, before hearing the structure beneath shake and rumble "Oh yeah … this thing is gonna blow." Spinel deadpanned.
"Then get comfortable, this'll get a little cramped!" Kurtz embraced the gem once more, wrapping their hair around the both of them as well as encasing them both in a bubble. If there was one thing her two halves were amazing at, it was surviving explosions.
========================================================================
Star flew back. They finished evacuating the town, now all that was left was to help her brother. It helped that her magic powers came flooding back, along with her Mewberty wings.
Thus, a high speed smackdown was soon to go down … if it wasn't for the ominous glow from the injector. "That's … probably not good." She turned to Garnet. "What are the chances of that thing not exploding?"
The fusion adjusted her visor for just a second and looked ahead. "Zero."
KABOOOM
A massive wave of pink goo flew into the air … raining down on Beach Creek. "Alright magic don't fail me now." She raised her hand, letting herself turn pink along with her Mewberty form for maximum power. "Spongey absorption blocker!"
A giant super sponge appeared over the entire city, preventing the majority of it from falling on top of all of them. "It's pretty rare for me to say this, but sometimes I love magic." Marco smiled at her, looking at the area around them, mostly the now barren and carved out areas where the poison was flowing out.. "I think the explosion dried up most of the poison seeping into the ground."
"Yeah … the temple's wrecked though." Amethyst pointed out. "Anyone know any good caves to live in nearby?"
"No big, when you break something, it's just an opportunity to rebuild it better than it used to be." Bismuth chuckled. "I can have your home rebuilt in no time."
"Yeah, yeah, that's well and good." Star nodded her head, barely paying attention to what they were saying. "But where's Steven and Kelly?"
"Look!" Luz pointed in the air, where a small pink ball floated, gently landing on the ground as a pink light flashed, making Steven, Kelly, and Spinel roll out of it.
"Ugg … explosive force is one thing, but my ears still ring after every one of them." Kelly groaned as she stood up. "You come out okay?"
"Yeah … probably need to get my skeleton checked again though, pretty sure there's at least two new cracks in me." Steven looked around the area. "Well, that's one way to get rid of an injector."
"No, no, no, no.." Spinel fell to the ground, looking guilty. "I messed everything up."
"Didn't you hear anything Kurtz said?" Kelly asked. "We've all messed up before, we just clean up after." They chided.
"But…But what about the damage to your planet…what about your happily ever after."
Steven stared at Spinel, before looking at Star, gazing into her eyes and sighing. "There's no such thing as happily ever after…you just keep living. If I want to keep living peacefully, then I'll always have battles to fight."
Well … that was a frankly terrifying self revelation. "You sure you're good Steven?" She asked.
"Yeah …" Steven looked at the approaching group and hugged her. "I'm just happy you're safe." He looked at everyone. "Is everyone okay?"
"Yep, totally fine!" Luz affirmed by swinging her arm…which was suspiciously black and dull in color. "Ooops…guess some of that stuff got on me."
"You know your mom is going to kill you the moment she see's that, right?" Kelly raised an eyebrow.
"Pfft, nothing a little makeup can't fix." She chuckled.
"That thing cuts clean through flesh." Peridot deadpanned. "You're gonna see bone soon if you don't heal up."
"Don't worry, I got this." Steven walked up to her and licked his palm, before patting their step-sister's arm.
"Ew, brother loogie." Luz winced back, only for the color to return to her appendage. "Oh right, magic healing spit.
"Too bad you can't just kiss the planet better." Lapis snorted.
"Huh, actually I think I can." Steven got on the ground and kissed it, a fresh patch of grass and flowers suddenly sprouting up from it.
"Dude, I was joking." Lapis deadpanned.
"Hey, who are we to argue if kisses save the planet?" Marco laughed as he looked at the still mostly dead area. "We're probably going to need something stronger, or at least a bunch of water for Steven."
"Don't worry." Luz planted a glyph on the patch of grass, making more greens pop out of the ground. "Just a couple of smooches combined with plant magic, and this'll look good as new in no time."
"And with no casualties either." Kelly smiled.
"What about Doop Doop?" Spinel asked.
"Oh, I'm sure he's around here…" Star looked around.
"VENGEANCE SHALL BE MINE!" Said broom handle shouted as his head was embedded into a crack in the earth.
"Don't worry, I got this." Star pulled him out. "Hey, I know what I did to you was super messed up, but…I'm sorry." After Spinel's story, this was literally the least she could do for this guy.
Doop Doop looked at the eyes with anger and malice that could burn in the fires of hell….only for it to drop in a single second. "That's all I wanted to hear! WHOA WEE!"
"Well someone took it like a champ." Lapis noted. "Then again he didn't hit triple digits like me and Spinel …" She turned her head. "Spinel."
"Oh don't tell me we lost her again!" Pearl screeched.
"No, she's right over there." Garnet pointed to said gem, looking downward as she slowly and sadly walked away.
"Spinel, wait!" Steven ran up to her, stopping Spinel in her tracks. "I haven't forgotten about you."
"I know. When you have a lot of friends, it means you have to give some more attention than others, I see that now." Spinel sighed. "I messed up, but…I do want to try this again." She looked at the group. "But…I screwed up so badly with you and your friends…I just want to start fresh with someone else." Spinel looked out on the horizon. "Like their's going to be anyone out there that can look past everything I did."
"Look, what Kurtz said wasn't a lie." Steven said. "Even if you have a rocky start, there's gotta be someone out there for you, past or no past."
The sky began to shake. "Hello there Steven!" A voice called out that made all of them wince. "Should we move this big thing out of the way or just break it??" Big thing … oh right, the sponge.
"Give me a second." Star sighed, raising her hand. They did NOT need these three to come here off all times.
========================================================================
Of course these three would come AFTER the world was saved. Then again, if they had come earlier, they would've probably used that as an excuse to take him off planet for good, so it was a fair trade off.
"It's been a while …" White said, looking around. "Was the Earth always this … destroyed?"
"It was literally just yesterday when I last saw you." He groaned. "And it's a long story."
"Oooh, we have time to…to…" Yellow nose twitched. "Ugh, what's that smell?"
"Bio poison, soot, ashes. Again, long story." Star rolled her eyes. "So what brings you guys here?"
Blue bowed gently. "We understand your wishes to remain on Earth and respect them, Steven." Oh, thank corn. "So we've decided to live here with you." Oh for the love of the stars, no!
"What, but..but…" He was stretching to find an excuse for them to NOT do that. "My house isn't big enough for all of us.." Not to mention destroyed, but that didn't really matter.
"We could make it work, there's plenty of room for construction after all … what with the decimation of the town." White pointed out.
"I mean, we won't judge you if you like your home this destroyed." Blue waved her hands.
"Of course not, because judging anything based on appearances is wrong." White nodded her head, obviously just trying to milk brownie points out of him, although her voice made it so hard for him to tell if she was actually trying to be sincere.
Steven withheld a frustrated scream. "It's not usually this destroyed, it's bec-" … He might have actually been like his mother if this was his idea. "Because I met a new friend I'd like to introduce you to."
"You do?" Yellow asked.
"You do?" Amethyst repeated with confusion.
"You do?" Star repeated with a raised eyebrow.
"Yeah, she's right over.." He looked over to Spinel, trying to duck and cover. "Spinel, you've met the Diamond's before, haven't you?"
"Yeah, but not like this!" Spinel whispered as she pointed to herself. "And I just tried to blow up the planet!"
"They tried that too, so you already have so much in common." He reached out his hand to her. "Just trust me."
"Steven, I don't know if the Diamonds are the best friend group for Spinel right now." Marco tried to interject.
"I said to trust me." He looked at everyone with serious eyes.
"... I trust you." Kelly nodded at him. "Make it work, Steven."
"If you insist bro." Star gave him a thumbs up.
Taking a deep breath, he let Spinel grab his hand as he introduced the Diamond's to his latest reforming enemy. "Blue, Yellow, White, this is Spinel. I believe you've met her before."
"My Diamond's." Spinel greeted, stretching her arms to give the former matriarchs a triple hand salute.
"Wha.." White brought her hands to her mouth, gasping as she gave a little blush. "It can't be."
"Pink's little playmate?" Blue's eyes widened in shock. "I thought she lost you?"
"Mom left her in a space garden for six thousand years." He frowned.
"Pfft, I mean, it wasn't that bad." Spinel waved off, standing on her hands. "I can do that again standing on my head."
That actually got an actual LAUGH out of Yellow. "Hhahaha, you're right, that is nothing!" Oh sure, the person that said 'move on, it's been six thousand years' says that it's not that long. "I like this gem, she's funny."
"She is so adorable, and so much like pink." Blue blushed. Again, that wasn't really a compliment.
"Spinel.." White shook her head to take away the blush. "Steven." She cleared her throat. "Since the earth is so disgusting, how about we take Spinel back to Homeworld with us and you can stay here?"
"Really?" Steven asked.
"Really?" Spinel gasped hopefully.
"REALLY!?" All his friends groaned. "It's THAT easy?!" Marco grumbled.
"Wait, why are we complaining, it's that easy for a change." Star realized.
"You'd … really take me?" Spinel asked with a twinge of fear.
The Diamonds leaned down. "Come live with us in the palace, There's a room waiting for you." It really was just a day to sing, wasn't it? Even if it was their old song from this morning.
"Come on …" Blue bowed with her head held really low.
"Come on …" Yellow bowed with her head held high.
"Come on …" White got on both her knees and held her hands out.
"Just let us adore you." The Diamonds said to Spinel with a gentle smile.
"It's so weird to see these guys act relatively normal around people." Lapis commented.
"I think it's oddly adorable." Luz cheered. It was very much both.
"Come live with us in the palace, There's a room waiting for you." They went on.
"Come on …"
"Come on …"
"Come on …"
"Just let us adore you." Their hands were open and extending, gazing at Spinel. "Yes we know that you're not her but you were hers." Well at least they weren't just looking for a replacement. "You know what it meant to love her, And you remind us so much of her." Those words definitely applied to Spinel more than him.
Spinel looked at their hands, before turning to him. "You..You won't forget me, right?"
"Never. I'll still be around" He reassured her. "In fact, Star, you still have Doop Doop, right?" Steven turned to his sister.
Star, realizing what he was getting up, walked up and presented the sentient broom to the stretchy gem. "I think the two of you will get along quite nicely."
"Oh wee, I get to go on another adventure?" The broom handle shook excitedly.
"Yep, and this time you get the travel space with a brand new friend." Star nodded as he gave him to Spinel. "Trust me, he's never going to leave you alone." Mainly because he didn't have any limbs.
"Today, right here, right now." Spinel squeezed the guy tightly. "I'll love again." She hesitantly walked to the Diamonds, but there was a bounce in her step. "I've already found someone."
"Just let us adore you" The Diamond's sang in the background.
"You know, they have pretty good synergy with the vocals." Kelly noted as they watched the show. "Their different styles match pretty well with Spinel's"
"Music's a gem staple, of course the first three would be lovely." Pearl gave a soft smile.
"Today, right here (Come live with us in the Palace)." Now Spinel was taking the stage, the Diamonds on backup … How ironic. "Right now (There's a room waiting for you)." She twirled Doop Doop in her hands. "I'll love again (Come on … come on … come on …)" They laughed. "I've already found someone(just let us adore you)."
Spinel swung from their giant fingers as the diamond's laughed happily…almost looking like a functional family for once. "Yes, I know that you're not her and I was hers." She hopped from shoulder to shoulder, enjoying the clear attention and affection they were giving her. "You know what it meant to love her! And you remind me so much of her."
"Today, right here, right now." They headed to the ship. "We'll love again." A close, weird, and messed up family. "We've already found someone …" Then again, that could also describe his own family.
White Diamond's head closed, the arms forming a heart shape to him as it floated in the air, the machine flying off into the distance. "... We did it …" Steven muttered happily, letting himself fall to the ground in relief. "We're lucky that it worked out as well as it did."
"Yeah, Spinel wants attention, and the Diamond's want to give something attention, in a slightly twisted way, they're getting what they want/need." Marco noted as everyone stared at the sky.
"If it doesn't work out, I think Hooty would get along with her pretty well." Luz commented.
"An interesting duo …" Steven looked up at the sky. "How much longer should we rest before we get back to fixing everything?" He asked.
"By my vision…I say you can afford at least the rest of the day." Garnet answered.
"Good, because I got a lot to think about." Steven looked at his hands. "I was too complacent about not wanting to fight anymore. I completely forgot what I said to the Koala when he confronted us." He grabbed his girlfriend's hand. "Life's an uphill battle. Better to struggle upward than to spend forever in one place."
"There's always something to learn." Star patted him on the back. "We're always capable of changing. We just have to make sure it's for the better."
"Yeah …" He gave a small smile "Here we are in the future … Here we are in the future and it's bright." He sang, but instead of the eager excitement from this morning, it was more of a tranquil calmness, one that he would make sure to enjoy while it lasted
"Nothing to fear … No one to fight." Star continued, holding hands with Marco.
"I can't believe we've come so far..!" Luz finally joined in on the song as she brought everyone into a group hug. "Happily ever after, there we were..!"
"And here we are!" They ran to Nexus city, where the majority of the citizens were now. Men, woman, and children ran through, laughing and enjoying each other's company.
"So happily we'll face.." Gems and Monsters alike did everything they could to entertain humans and Mewmans with funny faces, piggy back rides, and little parlor tricks with their powers. "Whatever comes our way." Snowflake and little Laramar gave snow cones as Biggs handed out balloons
"And after, we might do it all again." Another fight after another, endlessly for the sake of happiness.
"(Here we are in the future)." His earth dad and step mom rushed in and hugged them, happy to see them safe.
"(Here we are in the future)." His Mewman mom and dad practically tackled Steven and Star, feeling the lovely crushing hug he had grown used to by this point.
"I'll be ready every day.." He'll be ready to fight. "For as long as I can say." He'll be ready to extend his hand to help. "I….I can make a change." Because the fight for happiness, the pursuit of peace…despite the hardship, it would always be worth it to him.
"(Here we are in the future)." Marco was tackled by his own folks, who slowly began to squeeze the life out of him as well..
"I, I can make a change." He looked to Bismuth, already busting out the plans on the rebuilding process for the city with Peridot. He wondered just how many blueprints they had in storage with how much Beach Creek got damaged.
"(Here we are in the future)" Lars and the Off Colors chatted about it with the locals, who looked like they were congratulating him for doing something cool. Guess that was the life of a space pirate for you.
"(Here we are in the future)." Kelly was gently patting everyone on the back, a grin on her face as she told the tale of their adventure. An adventure well fought and journeyed, one that he would never forget, one that he would make sure to learn from.
"I, I can make a change!" Star and him sang at the same time, hugging each other. The road ahead probably wasn't going to get easier, it probably never would, but it didn't need to. As long as they were willing to change, they would always find a way to be happy.
"Here we are in the future!" The next day was filled with hard work, with getting both towns back on track.
"Here we are in the future" They had a few more accidents that Garnet was thankfully able to stop this time around. Guess future vision did come in handy once in a while.
"(Here we are in the future)" Once they finally got back in contact with their other friends, the process went by like a breeze, considering Phineas and Ferb were able to finish half of it just by themselves.
"Here we are in the future." They marveled at the shining city, watching it light up with neon lights that reminded him of Empire City.
"(Here we are in the future)" To which they celebrated with a campfire barbecue, laughing and enjoying smores as they awaited whatever the future had for them next.
"Here we are in the future," Star still had School. Marco had that job with training police.
(Here we are in the future) Kelly hunted her own stuff half the time.
"Here we are in the future.". And when Steven was done with his therapy sessions and not being a space ambassador, he performed with his own band. They all had lives to live, they all had something they needed to grow into.
"Here we are…Here we are." They would never stop growing.
"Come so far (Come so far)." They sang out, large smiles on their faces "And it's bright, And it's bright, And it's bright, And it's bright, And it's bright, And it's briiiight!" An amp exploded from the noise, making everyone jump.
He walked out on a staircase on a stage, wearing the fanciest pink tux he could find as the crystal gems, Kelly, Marco, Star, and Luz danced right behind him in similar suits. "I'll be ready every day! For as long as I can say." Because no one knew what was coming.
He looked at everyone, all of them were happy, they were all happy at this moment. It didn't matter if in the next moment something terrible happened. What mattered was that they got to have this happy moment. "Here I am in the future with my friends!
"(I can make a change)." They backed him up. Because when the chips were down, he could count on them to push him up.
"That's why…" And he would move entire planets to do the same for them. "Happily ever after….never ends."
"YESS!" Luz jumped in the air. "I finally got to be a part of a musical number! Next stop is having one of my own!" Hopefully it wouldn't be in the middle of an apocalypse.
