Chapter 17 - 17. She would not abandon Naruto

Maya! This conversation is over! And remember, what you've learned here is a secret! Do you understand me?

Maya took a deep breath and nodded, then walked out of the office. As she walked down the corridor back to the children's ward, she pondered on how to help Naruto. After all, orphanage number six was considered, though elite, to have the most egregious children there. And she was afraid to imagine what would happen to two year old Naruto there. But one thing was certain. She would not abandon Naruto.

Kakashi

Jumping from tree to tree was our unforgettable Hatake Kakashi. Ever since Minato became Hokage he has been serving in the anbu under his personal command.

For two months he had been on a mission to guard a relative of the Fire Nation daimyo.

And now the gray-haired lad was in a hurry to get to the village. Since when he was sent about the disaster of Konoha, he decided for himself to see for himself with his own eyes. At a young age, having lost his parents, Kakashi had come to appreciate only one person and that was his sensei.

After all, Minato was the only one who helped him out of the terrible state of loss and even when he lost his comrades in the war his sensei was always there for him. If he had lost Minato, whom he considered an older brother. Kakashi would follow in his father's footsteps and fall on his kunai.

And so Kakashi's gaze traveled to Konoha. Climbing up to the gate, he saw a bunch of genin and construction workers running around. The hole that had appeared due to the bijuudama still hadn't been patched. Passing through the guards, he ran bullet by bullet to the residence. He was afraid that when he entered the building, he would see only an empty office. And so he stood by the door.

After counting to 10, he opened the door, and when he saw the empty office, he sat on all fours in pain, wailing that he should have been here to help Sensei. But suddenly he heard a voice from behind him.

"Kakashi I realize you're tired, but please get up off the floor and sit on the couch."

And then he jumped up and looked at his sensei who was eating an apple with a bag of apples in his other hand.

"Sensei? Are you alive? I was afraid you might not have survived the battle with Kyuubi."

"Well, as you can see, I'm alive. . . Would you like an apple?"

"Sensei, can you tell me what happened?"

"Okay."

And Minato told everything, right down to how they defeated the nine-tailed man.

Sensei, how did you defeat the nine-tailed man?

"Kaname-san had to seal in a child from the Uzumaki clan that Kaname found who was born that day, at the cost of her life."

"What about your son, is he okay?''

"No, he couldn't withstand the blast wave....?"

"What about the others?"

Koushina and Miroku are at home, they're fine.

"I'm sorry, Sensei, you said you wanted a son..."

"Nothing, Kakashi, being Hokage requires me to move on. Leave the report, I'll do it myself. You need to rest."

"There's Minato-sensei."

"Minato-sensei.''

Minato was disgusted by his student's deception, but there was no turning back. He needed to forget about Naruto and the fact that he existed.

Kakashi first decided to go to the heroes' pedestal and look at the names of his former teammates. As he looked at those names, he often wondered what if he had tempered his pride and protected his friends, would his friends have survived?

With these questions he would overwhelm himself, until he grew bored with the activity. He could do this for hours. Suddenly, Danzo approached him from his right side.

"Hello, Kakashi-kun."

"Hello, Danzo-sama."

"Have you been told?"

"Yes, Danzo-sama."

"Did he tell you the whole truth?"

"What do you mean?"

"Minato's a politician now, and he's supposed to keep secrets from even the closest of people."

"He said the Hokage's service forced him to move on..."

"But there's a secret he's been keeping since before he was Hokage!"

"Minato-sensei never kept anything from me."

"Yeah?"

"Then come to my place tomorrow afternoon and I'll tell you something. And believe me, you'll be very interested."

"I'll think about your offer!"

"I'm waiting!"

That night, Kakashi couldn't sleep, wondering what secret his sensei was keeping. He decided he had to find out what the Fourth Hokage was hiding.

The next day he went to the Root Cellars. This was a place he had never been. The Root base itself looked like a labyrinth that ran underground. If he didn't have a map, he would easily get lost here. And so, finding the right door, he sat down on a chair in front of Danzo.

"Curiosity won out, didn't it, Kakashi-kun?"

"I guess so!"

"Before you find out the secret, tell me what our village represents to you."

Kakashi never thought about it with his loner nature, he was never interested in the people around him and said the first thing that came to mind.

"Well our village is one of the great shinobi villages. This village trains top-notch assassins, defenders, and mercenaries."

"That's right! But it's only right from a military point of view. It shows you don't have much contact with people. But what's our village like politically?"

"I don't know!''

"Let me explain it to you! "

"Let me explain it to you! Our village is a complex infrastructure. This village is home to many clans and no clans. Among the clans, there's a fierce struggle for political power in our village. Hyuga, Uchiha, Inuzuka, Aburame, the triple alliance of Nara Akimichi, Yanamaka, Sarutobi. They all hate each other. Even if they don't show it. Under Hiruzen, they didn't fight so hard to be the head of the clan. Minato realizes that very well. After all, Hiruzen has a clan behind him, and so do the first and second hokage. But who's behind Minato?"

"No one!"

"Absolutely!"
