Chapter 37 - What A Weird Guy, But Also A Little Cute

This was the second time Xia Xue had witnessed such a scene, and once again, the final boss was dispatched in an instant.

She felt completely numb.

Could it be that the King of Goblins was somehow Lin Moyu's pet, just giving away experience points for free?

As the upgrade light enveloped Lin Moyu, she exclaimed, "You leveled up again? Level 15?"

Lin Moyu nodded, confirming her guess.

Xia Xue grimaced. She was only at level 13 and lagging behind by a significant 30% experience.

The gap between them had widened yet again.

"I'm really not convinced," she thought.

[Kill the Goblin King, experience +25000]

[Obtain a bronze-level weapon: the Goblin King's Longsword.]

[Obtain a low-level monster crystal nucleus.]

Upon seeing the prompt message, Xia Xue sighed, "What a pity it's not a staff."

"You want a staff?" Lin Moyu asked.

"Yes! The Goblin King's staff is the best weapon for mages before level 20," she replied, her eyes gleaming with desire. "I could buy one from the exchange, but I'd have to ask my dad for money, and I really don't want to do that."

Suddenly, a dark shadow shot toward her. Instinctively, Xia Xue reached out to catch it.

[Goblin King's Staff]

Isn't this the staff I wanted?

"Here you go," Lin Moyu said nonchalantly.

Just a staff, nothing more.

Xia Xue stood frozen for a moment before finally managing to say, "Thank you."

But confusion quickly replaced her gratitude. "Why don't you use it yourself?"

Lin Moyu pulled out the Goblin King's spellbook. "I prefer this."

Though spellbooks and staffs were both weapons for mages, most opted for the latter. A staff not only looked majestic but could also serve as a physical weapon. A spellbook lacked this versatility.

Relatively speaking, the staff was far more practical.

Xia Xue didn't quite understand. "But the staff is definitely more useful than the spellbook."

Lin Moyu shook his head. "I just don't like staffs."

This reasoning left Xia Xue speechless. Was it really that simple?

It dawned on her that throughout their adventures, she had never seen Lin Moyu even take out the spellbook.

"Perhaps the spellbook gives him some minor bonus, but he doesn't care for it at all," she mused silently.

Meanwhile, Lin Moyu was oblivious to her inner thoughts and was busy checking his upgraded attributes.

Having finally reached level 15, his confidence in entering Xia Jing Academy soared.

Reaching level 16 would be ideal, but even if that didn't happen, he knew it wouldn't be a major setback.

However, the experience gain slowed considerably after leveling up.

Originally, Lin Moyu had expected his experience to rise to about 12%, but it had only climbed to 8%.

Though they were in a team, Xia Xue had lost part of the experience, and the pace of progress felt painfully slow.

Calculating in his mind, he considered Xia Xue's primary cooling talisman, which could allow them to run three consecutive dungeon rounds.

At his speed, three rounds would take about half an hour, followed by two natural cooling periods.

If they played their cards right, they could potentially clear five dungeons together.

Of course, he would have to bring Xia Xue along for the last two runs.

He couldn't just leave her behind after they had formed a team.

"Five runs as a duo should be enough to get us to level 16," he mused, glancing at the fallen Goblin King. "I'm sorry, but I might have to kill you five more times."

Xia Xue was taken aback, surprised to see Lin Moyu talking to the defeated boss.

"Why are you talking to the BOSS? It can't understand you."

Lin Moyu replied softly, "It doesn't matter whether he understands or not."

Xia Xue was even more astonished. "Then why say that?"

Lin Moyu didn't answer, leaving Xia Xue to ponder the moment. She suddenly found Lin Moyu endearingly quirky for apologizing so sincerely to a boss.

Who else would do that?

Wasn't a dungeon just meant for grinding?

Wasn't the BOSS simply there to be defeated?

Sure, bosses in advanced dungeons often had to be tackled repeatedly, and many professionals had lost their lives in the process, but there was no need for apologies.

"What a weirdo... and kinda cute," Xia Xue laughed aloud.

Lin Moyu gave her a puzzled look. "Let's head out. We've got more to do."

"Okay, let's continue!"
