Chapter 243 - One Bad Day

POV Robin

I had just finished beating the Joker's goons, but they had managed to injure me a bit. But that didn't matter as today was the day I brought the Joker to justice. It had taken me weeks to track down the Joker and corner him, so I knew I couldn't delay.

'Of course, it's always a circus or amusement park with him.'

I snuck into the funhouse, where the goons that I beat up told me he was hiding. As I make my way through the funhouse, I hear the Joker talk over the intercom.

Joker: "Let me ask you something? What does it matter if you send me to prison? If it doesn't matter to me."

I try and locate where he is speaking from, but I can't pinpoint it.

Joker: "I demonstrated there's no difference between me and everyone else. All it takes is one bad day. That's how far the world is from where I am. Just one bad day."

I think I see him and run after him, but I don't find him.

Joker: "You had a bad day once, am I right. Oh, I know I am. I can tell. You had a bad day, and everything changed. Dressing up in underwear doesn't hide it; it screams it. You had a bad day, and it drove you as crazy as everybody else, only you won't admit it. You have to pretend that it might make sense that there's some point to all this struggling. You make me want to puke."

I get ambushed by more goons and beat them up before I get away and hide again.

Joker: "I mean, what is it with you? What made you what you are? Parents killed by the mob, maybe? Brother carved up by some mugger? Something like that, I know. Because something like that happened to me."

I follow the voice and find a room that is upside down. I hesitate to enter as this seems like a trap that the Joker would set up. I calm myself and sneak in.

Joker: "Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another. If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice. My point is..."

I enter the room fully but don't find anything right. As I am about to leave, I feel something hit my head.

Joker: "I went crazy. And I'm smart enough to admit it. Why can't you?!"

He hits me with a chair and I am thrown to the floor.

Joker: "By clinging to reality, you're denying the reality of the situation."

I try to get up, but he hits me in the head again. My vision goes blurry.

Joker: "I mean, do you ever think about how many times we've come close to World War 3 over a flock of geese on a computer screen. Silly goose, it's all a joke! Everything anybody's ever valued or struggled for i-it's monstrous! Why can't you see the funny side?! Why AREN'T YOU LAUGHING!?"

Right as he is about to hit me with his hand buzzer, a beam of green light hits him and he is sent into the wall.

Starfire: "Because you are wrong. Robin is stronger than you."

Cyborg: "We all have bad days."

Raven: "But we don't let it consume us."

Beast Boy: "We adapt, we learn from our mistakes."

Robin: "I don't know what happened to you, but whatever happened doesn't give you the right to try and break others. To take the lives of others. You are under arrest, Joker. And where you are going, you will never see the light of day again."

The Joker just looks at us and starts laughing.

Joker: "Ehehehe, HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!"

Beast Boy: "What's so funny?"

Joker: "HEhehehehe, hhohoho, oh just that you think you can take me in. There is no Batman here, and Boy Wonder here is no substitute. I broke the other two, so I have nothing left."

He pulls out a switch, and before we can stop him, he presses the button. The entire area starts to shake, and explosions are heard in the distance.

Joker: "We're all going to die together. I will see you all in HELL! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!"

Robin: "We need to get out of here now!"

We try to leave the room, but it is blocked by a massive steel door, and smoke starts to fill the room.

Robin: "Cough Cough. Raven, can you teleport us out of here?"

Raven: "I am trying, but something is interfering with my magic."

Robin: "Starfire and Cyborg try to blow open the door."

Cyborg: "We are trying, but the door is made out of some strange metal. It's adapting to our energy."

Suddenly, I see green gas, and I put on a gas mask.

Robin: "Joker Venom! Everyone put on a mask!"

We do so, and I realize we might not leave here alive. But as I start to lose hope, I feel someone grab my shoulder. I look back and see Rio. I blink, and suddenly we are all back in our tower, and Rio is nowhere to be found.

Beast Boy: "Great job, Raven!"

Raven: "That wasn't me."

Terra: "Then how did we get here?"

Robin: "Rio."

Cyborb: "What?"

Robin: "Rio saved us. He is likely dealing with the aftermath of Joker's final joke."

We all fall down, and I ask what has been on my mind for a while now.

Robin: "How did you guys know where I was? I left my communicator here."

Starfire: "Mr. Yularen told us where you were and that you needed help. Then he teleported us to where you were."

Cyborg: "We came running when we heard Joker stop talking over the intercom. It looks like we arrived right on time."

Beast Boy: "I told you we should have followed him from the beginning."

Terra: "And how were we supposed to do that? Batman trained him."

Beast Boy: "Uh, I dunno. We would have thought of something."

Starfire: "Do you not trust us, Robin?"

Robin: "No, I trust you guys, but the Joker did terrible things to my family. Batman isn't here, so I knew that I was the only one who could stop him. If you guys hadn't surprised him, he would have captured all of us. And it was only thanks to Rio that we got out of there alive. he had made countermeasures for all of our powers."

Beast Boy: "But together we would have managed. We always do."

Raven: "Almost always."

We all wince, and Beast Boy apologizes.

Raven: "It's fine. It doesn't matter anymore. But we shouldn't try to fight all on our own. I tried that, it didn't work."

Robin: "Sigh. You're right. I shouldn't have gone on my own. It won't happen again."

Starfire: "Promise?"

Robin: "Promise."

Cyborg: "This calls for a party!"

Beast Boy: "I will get the Tofu!"

Terra: "I will order the Pizza."

Starfire: "Should we invite Spider-Man?"

Robin: "Sure, why not. I will go make the call."

POV Rio

I finished cleaning up the numerous problems Joker had left behind. I had to use Drain Knowledge on him, but it couldn't be helped. I just made sure I was extremely cautious when doing so, as I didn't want to underestimate his mind. I also learned all sorts of things. The saying that he was a genius was accurate. He was very intelligent, or maybe just very crafty.

'Well, at least he was useful for something. I don't think I would ever want to use the Joker Venom, but who knows? Actually, would it work on an Alicorn?'

I ask Bartleby, and the answer is, unfortunately, no. But I wasn't too surprised, given what I have read about Alicorns.

'Now that should be the last thing. The Titans are safe, and it looks like they are celebrating. Oh, now that I think about it. System, how long will John Battman be summoned?'

'Okay, so he shouldn't be around for more than another couple of weeks.'

I head back to my office and find that a report was placed there, saying that they found the source of the strange weather at Swallow Falls. It was caused by a machine that could turn Water Molecules into any food. A team of mages had managed to find and turn off the machine. Now they are working on cleaning up the island. The Science Division has been studying the machine and has said that it is quite an impressive machine.

'So the machine is from the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs series. We already have more than enough food, but such a machine is very useful nonetheless. I wonder if it can help us terraform a planet. A planet of food and food-based creatures. Why does that sound familiar?'

I look back into my memories and remeber where I had seen that, but I wasn't sure if the entire planet was like that or if it was more of a joke. Regardless, it wasn't that important. The only other report was that the Penguins had made it clear that they have no intentions towards the Americas and wanted no conflict with the Imperium. I was glad to hear that, as I didn't want war, as the DPR was dealing with our enemy for us.

Authors Note:

The world Rio is thinking about is the Ted Bear short from Cyanide and Happiness. The monologue from Joker is the One Bad Day monologue from The Killing Joke. I wanted Robin and the Teen Titans to have a bit of a chapter, and figured this was the perfect time. Until next time, Ciao.
