Ruri did not even look back at Kouhei while she continued cutting her toenails with the nail cutter, sitting there with the kind of complete indifference that made it seem as though whatever was happening around her had nothing whatsoever to do with her. She did not even pause for a moment to acknowledge that Kouhei was standing nearby, and the quiet little clicks of the nail cutter somehow became much more noticeable because of how completely she was ignoring him.
It was almost as if she could not be bothered to pay attention at all.
Kouhei stood there for a moment, staring at her while trying to figure out what exactly he was supposed to do next. From what Yuka had told him earlier, he had already expected Ruri to be difficult to convince, but he had imagined that "difficult" meant arguing with him, refusing to cooperate, or perhaps giving him some unreasonable condition before agreeing to help.
Ignoring him completely had somehow not been part of his expectations.
