Lin Nianhe didn't sleep well that night.
Both because she felt unsafe in a strange place and because of the intermittent pain that kept pulling her out of dreams.
Just as she was about to fall into deep sleep, the village rooster started crowing.
"Oh, give me a break..."
Lin Nianhe propped herself up on the kang bed, feeling completely out of sorts.
Wang Shumei was awake too, but she didn't want to open her eyes. She huddled under the blanket and moaned, "Right now... I'm especially afraid Uncle Team Leader will suddenly come knocking and tell me it's time to work."
Lin Nianhe stretched lazily, her joints cracking painfully.
"I seemed to dream about Uncle Team Leader last night," Lin Nianhe rubbed her sore legs.
"What did you dream about him doing?"
"He said he wanted to kick me, chasing me all night long."
Still shaken, Lin Nianhe rubbed her arms and began to move toward the edge of the kang.
