One shichen of time—if it were in the Mortal World, that would be two hours. When the Peacock Great Bright King discovered this village of several hundred people and was thinking it could finally have a good meal, it suddenly saw, on a high mountain not far away, a delicate, handsome Young Monk sitting cross-legged!
At first the Peacock Great Bright King didn't pay him any attention and continued walking toward the village, planning to eat every last one of these hundreds of people. But who would have thought that just as it stepped forward, that delicate Young Monk actually began to chant some Scriptures. This made the Peacock Great Bright King pause in surprise—and in that dazed pause, it ended up standing right there listening for more than a whole shichen!
