Tull stopped walking so abruptly that the others continued for several steps, snow crunching beneath their boots, before they noticed. He stared at Cain, whose expression remained unchanged, then swallowed hard. "Nah. That can't be right. That's too absurd."
"Sometimes life is, kid," Kaiser replied with a smile.
"I'm not a kid."
"To me, almost everyone here is."
Ludwig glanced at him. "You called Cain young earlier."
"He is."
Cain's eyes shifted toward the lich, though Kaiser remained utterly unbothered by the attention. "Regardless," he continued, "he cannot use the full extent of that power."
"Why do you know so much, Lich?" Cain asked, his voice dropping dangerously low.
"Bad habit," Kaiser said. "Called learning."
Redd muttered beneath his breath, "Horrifying concept."
